Hey mate Unfortunately we wont be ready by then sorry. We are teething a few inconsistent Calibration issues with one ECU we are currently trying. We would like to ensure at least the normally used 3 ECU's used like LINK, Haltech & Motec are all compatible before we go any further. Hey Brent I could imagine he is talking about the DBW motors that have been in service for 14 - 20 years? As the model they originate from were built from 2000 - 2006, So due to normal wear and tear like any electric motor plus most likely having had a hard life as most BMW M models do, They may reach the end of their life span at some stage. Personally I've never seen one that's out of order, Even after working for a company in Switzerland called Autotech Und Motorsport Gmbh for 3 years who specialise in hard driven Street and Track application BMW M models. So my answer is NO they have no issues. Kind Regards Stefan Etter IEE Innovative Engines & Engineering. burn4005
small note to those interested, you'll have to remove your oil heat exchanger for this kit to fit. something I've found when investigating. not a big deal, but something to be factored in. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/451947-fly-by-wire-throttle-6-throttle-rb26/page/2/#findComment-7926110 Share on other sites
Stefan Etter
Thanks Burn4005 Sometimes people rush threw the products and don't read the descriptions. To counteract this contact issue we are working on a solution for the oil cooling system also! We will be getting around to expanding on our Oil Hard Line kits mid year which we will then supply the following in. ( All of the below is NOT included in the Oil Hard Line Kits which are on pre sale already ) 2x - 10 Oil Hard Lines ( Pressure Tested & Cleaned Ready To Fit ) They can be chosen in LH or RH configuration! 3x Chassis Clamps 1x Sandwich Plate With Built In Thermostat 2x -10 Oil Line Hoses from sandwich plate to Oil Hard Lines ( Pre Made, Tested & Cleaned Ready to fit hoses ) Inc Silicone Sleeve over the hoses. Oil Filters can also be supplied. NOTE : Our Kit does not include an oil cooler or mounting kit, Customer or Shop must fit an oil cooler or adapt the existing oil cooler. In most cases HKS Greddy etc used -12 Hoses, these must be adapted down to -10AN to then transition onto our Hard Lines. We won't be doing full Oil Cooler Mounting kits or anything like that soon. as that is another huge task and with the amount of bumpers etc avaiable its a fairly big job. JustinP
The BMW DBW actuators that are known to fail are from the later E9x M3's. They use a plastic gear inside which do sometimes strip off the teeth causing them to fail. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/451947-fly-by-wire-throttle-6-throttle-rb26/page/2/#findComment-7926154 Share on other sites
burn4005
Poor DBW output tuning makes this far more of an issue than a mechanical fault with the gear itself. you should be limiting the half bridge duty when approaching open and closed limits to keep the torque down. driving it hard against the stops (usually from excessive integral gain or poor feed-forward mapping) certainly doesn't help. burn4005
@Stefan Etter Do you have any logs of commanded throttle position vs actual from an ECU, especially at low openings? I'm interested in the control response of this setup under high vacuum conditions specifically for stable idle control. the E46 M3 engine that had a similar setup used an idle control valve for fine airflow adjustment, but it appears there is no auxillary idle air control in this system. main observations are from the limited pictures i've seen look like the linkage gain at low openings appear to be quite high (linkage is tangential to actuator arm at low openings) and significant shaft area due to the 6 throttles have a potential to introduce significant stiction. if you have calculated a linkage gain curve for the assembly that would be interesting to see. this may be incorrect on my part and actually be 1:1 through the whole sweep. Spot on. So moral of the story is, bring your vehicles to a shop who is experienced with DBW systems. Thanks @burn4005.
