Hey guys,

Ive just heard that Nissan is pulling out of designing cars etc?

my bro has just come to me and says that he saw in some magazine today (HPI)

that Nissan are apparently not creating anymore skylines, or silvias etc?

They are apparently only makins SVU's now ?

Apparently they are going to keep creating GTR's but that wont last for long, and it was said that the 350z was an attempt at keeping the media busy ??

can anyone confirm this at all ?

i know my bro can come up with wierd sh*t sometimes, but yeah... he swears this is real etc.

this is very old news.

As of August 2002 (2 years ago) Nissan has officially ceased producing R34 Skylines.

Silvia (200sx) production has stopped too.

Renault boss has taken over Nissan in Japan in an attempt to freshen up the face

of the aging japanese manufacturer, this explain the 350Z and new Maxima styling.

Yes those news are true. The era of Nissan sports car has long gone, now is the era of

hybrid engine like Toyota Prius and Civic Hybrid. Face the bitter reality mate.... Even the R35 GTR which is rumoured to be built in 2007 may be cancelled. After all, Honda already cancelled their plan to built the next NSX, so last year's NSX-R is also the last NSX Honda will ever built. Time to get stuck with SUV.... X-Trails, Navara, CRV, RAV4....

Bye bye turbo performance... it's things of the past now. This is why I am still living in the past with my R33.

****ing fabulous , well be stuck driving piece of shit commonwhores and other pieces of japanese crap designed by a french man, great if the world couldnt turn more to shit

thats the last thing we need french input, the only thing the french are good at is defeat and cowardice they have lost every war they have been in , and screwed up everything they possibly can, if its possible to **** up the french will do it , anyway

but back on to cars, with all the price of fuel, emissions , lack of oil , rah rah rah new hybrids are what we might get stuck with

I LOVE NISSAN !

Well guys, not sure about you, but as much as I love my R33, the reality will struck even harder as year goes by it will:

1. in 5-10 yrs time our skylines could be the same thing/status as today's VL turbo

2. oil is predicted to run out in 50 yrs time if no new source is found

3. in 5-10 yrs time most our cars would end up either in wrecker's car yard or

meticulously garaged like some owners do to their 1960-70s Mustang today...

4. in 5-10 yrs time our skyline could officially be classic car with club rego

and driven on weekend only

5. parts become scarce and everybody is willing to stab everyone else just to

grab hold of parts even as simple as a genuine oil cap.

6. there will be time when electro hybrid engine cars can easily run 0-100 in 3.5s

and 1/4 mile in 11-12s, leaving most of our current day hipo cars like

skylines/wrx/evo "obsolete..."

7. and i'd love to be there 10,20,30 yrs from now to see when it all happens,

and cherish the good ol' day of turbocharged motoring fueled by greasy fossil

remains & residue, while my everyday car will of course.. an electro motor

equipped Toyota Prius Sportectron (with 200rwkw electro charged motor).

While Carlos Ghosan may have left Renault to take up head of Nissan. Nissan and Renault have merged together in a 4 year alliance.

Renault owns 44.4% of Nissan

Nissan owns 15% of Renault

so during this 4 year alliance you wont see any developement of a 'V'35 GT-R (There is no 'R' is the model code anymore) until this alliance is over. The only car being targeted as the 'Sports' model is the 350Z, the Skyline, is unfortunatley being targeted as a family saloon slightly smaller than the maxima.

Read the article ppls..

FYI that was from HPI 38, which was published last year.

It doesn't say anything about Nissan being in trouble at the moment..they WERE in financial trouble a few years ago..

While Ghosn was at the helm, several decisions were made that included Nissan ceasing production of the Silvias, and no more RB-based Skyline.

It also says that one of the explanations for this decision was that the RB / SR engines were based on old platforms, expensive to make and not space efficient compared to newer ones.

And it doesn't say that Nissan is going to become an SUV-only manufacturer, rather that it is a fear that it could happen..

La la la..and so on.

Martin Donnon (who wrote it) is on the forums I do believe so perhaps if he reads this he can clarify the intent of the article (I'm right, aren't I?)..

Here is the link to the information regarding the Nissan/Renault merger.

http://www.renault.com/gb/groupe/alliances_p1.htm

They want to be in the top 5 of domestic car manufacturs in the world and the market is Europe. and unfortunatley for the fans of the old school Japanese Domestic Angular look, the trend is for European cars. Renault holds voting rights within Nissan, so if they want european look, they get european look.

Interesting though. the VQ35 engine is going into a number of renaults, and Nissan are making gearboxes for a number of Renault cars.

I can understand that the RB engines were non space efficient, but it's strange about the SR series.

probably more of a case that they were overengineered and the tech head in Renault had no idea what the little Japs did with those engines.

I've found this to be some what interesting, I was looking at a website and it would seem to me that if anything Nissan are running Renault as anything that Renault does it's always with support by nissan.

Back in 2000 this Ghosan guy was the COO of Nissan, in the management shuffle at Nissan he ended up becoming the CEO around 2001/2.

If Nissan does something it's never with Renault support or direction, yet Renault needs Nissan to help it out, this has been happening the lest 2/3 years.

i dont know bout u guys, but a life without the silvia, the skyline, and the sr and rb motor is not a life at all *sobs uncontrollably* lol. the silvia and skyline are guranteed sellers, they have a totally loyal market in japan. it could even be compared to *coughs* bombadores and falcoons over here. well my two cents anyway. i can understand nissans cash flow problems, but why not just postpone the series to a later date, and maybe even, update the sr and rb? i know my opinions are most likely pie in the sky stupid ideas, coz im an idiot, but hey, thats just wat i think anyway. i dont think i could live without seeing silvias and skylines on the road.

a life without the silvia, the skyline, and the sr and rb motor is not a life at all *sobs uncontrollably*

I find it funny to hear this from a 17yo... as SR & RB motors are quite a nostalgic engines from the past.. precisely around 5-10yrs ago... I would reckon most die hard RB enthusiast would be 25-35s these days, just like Mustang's V8 enthusiast are mostly mid 50s by now....

Of course I'm not saying that you can't be an SR/RB enthusiast for your age.. but since u're young and life is still full ahead of you, there are lots of current engines in your time that are great engines... SR and RB are great, but they're not the only engine in the world. E.g. the M3 engine is actually considered the best 6 cyl in the world, and Porsche's flat 6 are almost unbeatable... although they may be up in the upper market range if you want to own one. In the more "affordable" range, there's the beautiful 4G63 engines in Evo, also I'd say when Subaru brings in 2.5l version in local turbocharged wrxs/libertys/forresters, it'll be the next thing to own.... as well as the evos. I also think Nissan's latest VQ engine and RX8's new renesis are good performers at all..... Toyota's 1JZ/2JZ series has always been great (i think they're out of production too) and has better torque than RB, even considered better & more reliable than RB by some high figure tuners.

The time of SR & RB engines has passed... Please let them rest in peace :). We'll always know how great they were in our hearts. Let's try to embrace some of the great performance engines the market has to offer in the future. Even though I own an RB engine Nissan, I'm dun want to limit myself to idolise one type of engine....

RS73, I hear you just to add the 4G series dates back to god knows when 1969 IIRC and the 4G63T dates back to 1982 in the A-175A older then the RBs. Already making 280ps then no one doubts how bullet proof these old blocks are. As you said eventually all these great engines will dry up, SR20 supply is already drying up with the Yanks buying them up.

Time to move on to VQ as per the JGTC car VQ30DETT :)

i think you're getting a bit carried away here. the RB's may be out of production but there's still life in the engine and people are still trying new and different things with them...

LOL... carried away? nah.. I still luv my RB too... keen to see what it will make with fmic & some more tuning for the next step....

Don't kid yourself...I think supplying cars and parts all over I would have some idea when things are drying up :)

People if you want news...well by 2007 Nissan will release their first fuel cell model. Nissan plans to invest up to 70 billion Yen through to 2008 in development and production facility in Kanagawa Prefecture to keep up with Toyota and Honda.

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
    • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
