HI

I wanting to hear from anyone with a 12/2004 onwards V35 350gt skyline preferably auto, or even a PM35 who has successfully fitted cruise to it to please reply.

I'm trying to find the speed wire for my PM35 and as much as Leon has helped me (Thank You VERY VERY VERY much Leon :worship: ) unfortunately his car and mine are different in the wiring dept.

I was hoping to pick it up off

1) the navigation unit with cd drive, or

2) the navigation transfer unit which is bolted to the ecu in my car, or

3) as a last resort the ecu itself.

If you have a wiring diagram for the above parts for your v35/pm35 or you just know the color and location of the speed wire that would also be of great help to me.

At the moment this seems to be the only hurdle I need to jump and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've spent many hours trawling the net for wiring diagrams all to no avail.

Thanks in advance guys.

Frank

Have you thought about tapping in the speed sensor wire for the audio unit? That would be present in the loom from the CANBUS in case there was an audio that needed it.

This was one of Leon's options for installing the Cruise in the NM35, but I know for my installation, I actutally used the feed from the ECU. On my V36 Skyline, I only needed to tap into the OBD2 connector and that gave the Cruise brain, the speed and brake pedal signals..

I have attached an extract from the 2005 G35 audio service manual that gives some wiring info.

Hope it helps.

not sure about the NM35, but the V35 does not have the speed signal wire on the audio unit like the USDM G35 does.

I was looking at connecting this up when I installed an G35 HU, but I couldn't find the speed signal wire that suited. The one taped to the Aircon pipe used for the Cruise install is not the correct signal for the G35 HU.

Speed is done down the CAN line, the ecu doesn't output it and nor does the dash afaik. The speed signal comes from the ABS computer, not sure you want to go stuffing about with that either.

Are you sure that plug isn't taped to another loom?

Thanks for that Nick.

Yes I did consider Leon's option of the speed wire @ the audio unit, but on his car he has 4 plugs with the speed wire clearly identified and my car only has 3 plugs, of which only 1 of the plugs is identical in wire colors and its not the one with 'his' speed wire in it.

I've found my obd connector but again I'd need a relevant wiring diagram to find out which wire is what.

I've been told by the supplier of the cruise that my car 'should' be running speed down the can line and on a analogue line, hence why I got an analogue cruise kit and that's what Leon is also supplying from memory.

I was looking at the 'engine' ecu where the signal inputs to it (btw my car doesn't have an external trans ecu, its built inside the trans).

Your correct I don't want to mess around with the abs module either.

I've found a spreadsheet which talks of a speed wire which apparently is pin 2 at brown 4-way connector, LH of steering

column taped to climate control duct but Im yet to look and confirm this, that was for a skyline 350gt.

I have attached a picture which I believe is the a/c hose greg and the spreadsheet are referring to and I've circled in red.

Correct me if Im wrong.

Thanks

Hi Frank.

The extract from the US manual does only show 3 plugs going into the audio unit... Page AV-10 plug M39, the biggest of the 3..

This also shows that the data output from the LAN-CAN needs to be converted before it can be read. This is shown on the diagram as the Unififed Meter Control Unit.

As my V36 uses the normal OBD2 protocols, unlike my M35, I was able to use a generic cruise that is able to read the speed and brake light switch through the LAN-CAN system.. so only taping into 2 wires there.

Nick

Hi Frank,

Yes that was exactly what I did.. Tapped into the tramsission ECU for the speed, 2 connections to the brake pedal then the power. Also used the supplied stalk controller as I had a Momo steering wheel, which does not work with the OEM switches.

Installation on the V36 was even easier for the cruise, but getting the controls connected though the steering clockspring was a nightmare!!

Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but Nick what cruise control unit have you got fitted to your vehicle? If you don't mind me asking.

Yes well thats where my problem lies, in mine doesnt have an external trans ecu like yours, and I checked last night I also dont have the wire taped to the a/c duct that i circled in my previous post.

Unless mine is more like your V36 in that I can tap into the obd plug.

How did you come to find out you could do that on your V36?

Do you have a wiring diagram for the obd plug?

Thanks

My V36 is 2009 MY and was a global car for Nissan as the G37, hence why it was straight forward to get a cruise control arranged using the normal OBD wires. I also have a bluetooth dongle connected to the port, which works with my Gamin sat nav to give trip computer functionallity, additional gauges and diagnostics. It is that conventional.. This unit would not work on my NM35.

Pretty certain that the PM35s do not run the conventional ODB2 protocols, so unlikely you will find a digital cruise that will get the signals though the OBD2 port working correctly on your car.

Did you look at that extract I uploaded for you? The G35 series 2 also run a 3 plug audio like your PM so it might be the same with the speed sensor wire. I think that speed output is part of the ISO standard wiring for the speed sensitive volume feature.

This wire does not exist on the V35. So I wouldn't be surprised if it is just a USDM thing.

Okay, no problems I'll drop it... :D

Just find it weird that speed sensor for audio would be on the NM35/Series 1 V35 but then removed for the PM35/Series2 V35...

Those Nissan engineers.... Crazy guys...

Hi Nick

Yes I did look @ the manual you supplied, and though i took photos of my wiring earlier in the week, I dont think they are good enough because i cant see all the way round them, so I will look @ them again with a copy of your diagram and see if it matches up.

OK

So it's confirmed now.

I have rechecked my wire colors and have compared them with 2003-2009 g35/g37 sedan and coupes and the usdm I can say without a doubt, are different to my car @ the least.

Does anyone have a V35 factory service manual?? PLEASE

FYI Here's what my M39 plugs consists of, assuming the wire I need is in fact in this plugpost-4392-0-78963800-1422189661_thumb.jpg.

Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but Nick what cruise control unit have you got fitted to your vehicle? If you don't mind me asking.

I have this VDO unit;

http://www.autostrada.com.au/nissan-cruise-controls.html

Which I bought from a different supplier, as autostrada were not doing the V36 units at the time..

But they do sell them on eBay now...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cruise-Control-Kit-Nissan-Skyline-V36-3-7-V6-2006-ON-With-D-Shaped-control-swit-/321583055906?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4adfd80422

Well worth the money and a straightforward installation with good instructons attached for interest...

    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
