Jimbo2000
I think recently rice is becoming more of a generalisation than a term Back in the day 'rice' was a lancer with a milo tin and HKS stickers :werd: its thrown around wayy too much these days. Laurence
I always regarded rice as a modification that had no benefit to (or reduces) performance... If you add a big turbo that just makes the car torch the tyres and accelerate slower then it fits my definition.... meshmesh
Roy, no offence mate, but I always want more power, and don't race my car on a track..."well yet.. anyway" But my reason is simple... when I hit the gas I want it go as quickly as possible. C'mon... fella's how can rice be connected to KW @the wheels?, I thought rice was all about sparkley's, firecrackers, big shiny stickers, neon's in & outside of the car, and basically a higher % percentage of SHOW compared to GO? The only car that could even come close to being a KW rice mobile "aka Dyno Queen" is that blue BMT S15, that make something like 480kw @the rears, but only produces boost between 7500-9000... EDIT: also.. this BMT car does a 13'sec qtr mile now that funny. Laurence
The problem we have here is that most of the people here with big awkW have GT-Rs which can actually lay down the power they have. So aren't really the people I am talking about... The BMT S15 is exactly what I mean... Though that is an extreme example. Something like a T67 powered S13 with Nankan tyres on it is more like the everyday example. I think you'd be surprised how many other cars there are that fit that powerband description Many are quite famous cars on the show circuit, but you'll never see them at Drag Combat or Eastern Creek (oh, unless they're in the carpark all lined up for show *coff.coff*) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45301-are-rwkw-the-latest-rice/page/2/#findComment-923358 Share on other sites
Leewah
As many people here have stated, a RWKW is nothing more than a number. My car has made some pretty big numbers and many of you can atest to that but can you imagine what people say when I tell them that my best time down the strip is a 10.47@133MPH??? "How can you have 600+RWKW and only run a 10??" Well, it's simple. We haven't had a successful run down the 1/4 at full power. There has always been something which destroys the day. I have seen 140MPH when the car had 526Rwkw but the last time out straight after MAS, we couldn't get a clean run in. Now some of you may doubt that my car has that much power, and you have every right to think that. As mentioned before fluctuations between dynos are endless. I am confident of the numbers which my car makes as I am present at the dyno and I know the dyno operators very very well and I know they don't fudge figures. Most of you know who they are. RWKWs don't mean much to me except trophies and an indication of what kind of MPH I would expect to run down the 1/4. The time will come with the MPH. And for those who think the power I make for a 1/4 run can be used on the circuit, let me say that you are dreaming!!! I wouldn't dream of hitting the circuit with more than 400rwkw simply for the fact that the power cannot be used efficiently when corners are involved. If anything, you'll be slower in an overpowered car due to handling issues. It is true though that when my car went on the dyno at MAS, the crowd did grow quite considerably. My 2c worth. GTRgeoff
Buy any serious performance vid with the mandatory "show car with big power on the race track" and laugh until your sides hurt. My votes for MRCRX and that stupid jungle Swift. The drivers...well.....couldn't drive a greasy stick up their own dates, regardless of the amount of practice they have, let alone pilot their rice tubs. lwells
Interesting thread, and nice to see some of the opinions of people I have come to respect on SAU reflect my own thoughts. I think some people are getting a little hung up on the term "rice": Gojira was asking its its the "new rice", not whether it is rice. If it offends you, ignore rice and insert something like 'form of showing off'. Anyyyyyway, back to the actual topic, the people run about with dyno sheets always amuse me. There is nothing wrong with getting a car on a dyno to tune it, but just chasing dyno figures is as boring to me as people adding stupidly huge wings, etc, etc. I'm also not that impressed by 1/4 mile times either: they are a useful for determining how fast your car (taking in to acccount the abilities of the driver) is down a small stretch of dead straight road. Still doesn't say much about how the car goes around corners, or even how streetable or useable the car is. For me, it is all about reaching a nice balance where the car is working as one and increasing response. I remember the first time I went for a ride in a R32 GT-R: I was mightly impressed and honestly I am not sure why anyone would want much more on the public roads anyway. How fast do you want to hit 110Km/h anyway? LW. Cubes
I'm not going after all out rwkw, i'm setting mine up to be a pleasure to drive with a shiet load of low and mid range power. I'd be happy with 250rwkw BUT I want to touch that magical 300rwkw mark With regards to boost hitting hard and causing lack of traction.. Thats where you have to start fiddling with different sized exhaust housings to smooth out the transition of torque. GTRgeoff
No-one with a clue is going to doubt the cred of your car Leewah, and it sees the strip. That much power takes some coconuts to unleash too . Takes a bit to pilot that sort of power on a circuit and they were running decent numbers in the winfield GTR's. The benefit is in just get the handling OK for the corners then feed it in the straights (so I am told but I have zero experience there) to sledgehammer the opposition. Longhursts BMW was killing them in the corners. All told a drag setup will not suit corners well anyway. Show cars though......sparkles are for bloody fairies. Fangers and SAU showed 'em at MAS Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45301-are-rwkw-the-latest-rice/page/2/#findComment-923401 Share on other sites

Roy
Roy, no offence mate, but I always want more power, and don't race my car on a track..."well yet.. anyway" But my reason is simple... when I hit the gas I want it go as quickly as possible. No offence taken, its your car... so are free to enjoy it as you please I dont believe that everyone has to drive their car on the track (though i think you re missing out if you have never done it ), and a lot of cars here have more power then mine and are better set up then mine.... But i live in fear of getting booked or having an accident. So i dont play around on the streets.... so taken into context of my car, i cant hit boost in 2nd gear without breaking the 60km/hr speed limit on most roads. The car is fine to drive around day to day, but if you want to go for a spirited drive on a road its still a pig and wat too loud to enjoy... I have a RICE BOV, WRX wheels, and stickers on my car...but its alright i listen to Roy Orbison to balance the equation Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45301-are-rwkw-the-latest-rice/page/2/#findComment-923548 Share on other sites

BU5TER
This thread is rice, I don't understand why anyone that wants more and more power and doesn't do some description of motor sport aswell if not its only for their ego and my wang is bigger chit chat as honestly how fast in this day and age can you drive on the street A mate once told me about his friends highly modded EVO which I asked oh that sounds like a fast car what did he build it up for and believe it or not he said bloody highway driving, like wtf does that mean Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45301-are-rwkw-the-latest-rice/page/2/#findComment-923689 Share on other sites
