hey

i have one of those rear lights that illuminate the SKYLINE in neon blue! I had it on my first line... any way after i wrecked the car i kept the light in my room as a night light(very cool) and never got around to putting it in my new car, however... bad end result! I think i have blown it! just wondering if any one has fixed one of these before? I tried to pull it apart but to no avail! i chipped a bit off so decided to seek help!

cheers

pete

funky: any idea where I can source one of these panels for my GT-R (gun metal)? Any idea on the costs?

LW.

Isn't this a 33-only mod? I believe the panel that is being referred to is the clear plastic panel that lines up with the rear indicators on the R33 coupes (with the word SKYLINE written in silver).

The 32s have a pretty solid looking piece of metal or plastic that looks pretty single-piece to me.

no the centre panel on the R32's were never LED lit, only EL lit. I have one  It was a factory option from certain retailers, which is true.

but what the original post was about is how to fix a blown light up R33 panel, which uses the same EL sheet technique to light it up. If you pull the EL sheet off, you'll notice near where the terminals are that its blackened a bit. which means your EL sheet won't work any more. You can buy a fresh EL sheet from Jaycar I think. there's some shops which sell EL sheets with premade terminals which you can cut to size.

that's my EL light up panel you've posted up after a fair bit of modding... which includes opening up the light up panel, taking out the EL sheet, replacing it with 7 LED clusters and wiring them up to a knightrider style sweeper circuit

Ohhh... hey that's pretty cool . Learn something new everyday :D.

So like, I noticed the word SKYLINE is punched-in on most regular R32s. I don't quite follow on how it works... are the words 'cut-out' on the factory fitted LEDs or are they merely 'placed over'.

Sorry for the OT post.

hey guys... not sure what the r32 one is like but the r33 one does not look any different to the normal r33 rear panel during the day! Infact you cannot see the blue at all at full light

in regards to the sheet from jaycar i take it the whole sheet illuminates and simply shines through a stencil so that the words apear!!

i would have though they were led's simply positioned in the letters!

to tell you guys the truth i cant even get the damn thing apart! Last time i tried i chiped a vital piece of plasic off that will have to be glued!

ill have another "crack" (crack..get it!) at it today but if i faill is there any where i can send it. i can even pay some one to fix it!!!

i think ud be better off crackin some wallnuts than the 33 garnish....at least ud get something out of it..a wallnut..hehe. but yeah the 33 is sealed all around and the only way id assume u can get it appart without breakin anything is using a heatgun or soak it in boiling water but then u might just melt the damn thing or get water inside it:D:D if ur not too concerned about keepin it factory just get a stanley knife and cut out a hole big enough out of the backing black plastic...its soft enough. stick whatever u want to stick in there and seal it up with another piece of plastic. no ones gonna see it.

So the illuminated skyline bit on the boot is actually a factory option....i always thought the guy had thrown a neon in there! It definately looks pretty cool....i've had a shot at taking that piece off but couldn't manage to remove it - where do you find the clips/screws/bolts??!?!

if some one on these forums has fixed one before i would be willing to pay you to do mine!! that is if people have the time :(

the "skyline" panel is easy as to take off! if you open the boot and remove the grey plastic trim that covers the boot lock, and the plastic boot trim that backs on to the panel.... there are 2 bolts to undo... and then simply remove!:D

ive tried pulling the thing apart too on my r33, spent hours trying to do it.

eventually i snapped a bit off and had to glue it back on. havent tried since, its a bitch to get aprt, wanted to stick a neon in it

if any1 figures out a way to get it aprt that wont damage it, let us know

thx

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
