OMG I just put a deposit on a R33GTR!

Recommended Posts

I'm scarred.

The car does have a little damage where somebody has tried to jimmy the door open. Also the front bar is a little damaged to (someone tried to remove it)

The car does have a little bit of white smoke coming out the exhaust however after a few revs it went away and didnt come back.

Anyway the price is such that I could afford to fix the door and a turbo even 2 if need be a still be doing ok.

Apart from that I checked the car thoroughly and it looks good.

* Checked the radiator for white deposits near the cap - none.

* No rust in the boot.

* No unusual sounds from drivetrain, gbox or engine.

* No perceivable leaks engine or otherwise

* Interior clean.

* Rest of panels straight.

* Engine sounded good and normal.

* 70k on clock (who really knows)

* 95 model

* 400r side skirts, front bar and bonnet (might be fake i wouldnt know)

* supplied with safety certificate and rego

* aftermarket exhaust looks to be only cat back

* pods (m's?)

* Enkei wheels 17in i think.

Fingers crossed i get it and it turns out ok. Either way I will let u guys know.

I'm an impulsive idiot but I did have a dam good look at everything I know a bit

about mechanicals etc - and I know people etc.

Well in my defence it was a whole 9 months ago......... lol.

Yes, I am an impulsive idiot. If I've made a mistake

everybody can say we told u so etc cos I'll deserve it.

If I haven't, I've got a bargain. If I have um... I'm not

gonna think about that.

I guess you didn't read the FAQ on buying a Skyline then sad2.gif

The two most important points you missed:

GET THE CAR UP ON A HOIST!!!!
Don't buy the vehicle the first time you see it. Go home and have a GOOD think about it. One more day isn't going to kill you, but it might stop you from making a bad impulse decision.

You should never have to tell yourself: "Fingers crossed i get it and it turns out ok" :D:P

I can't believe the engine was blowing smoke, and you didn't get a compresssion test done on it, and bought it anyway.... :uhh: :uhh:

Correction I havent bought it just put a deposit on it.

Lergo I have arranged for an onsite compression test

and pre purchase inspection this wednesday 12-2pm

for $150.

If I don't go through with the purchase I loose my $450

deposit plus the $150 comp test or $600.

Figure its worth taking the punt on for $600.

I feel better now.

The thought of owning a 33GTR is really freaking me out.

I need to settle. Then I need to think about alarms. That's

the thing that worries me the most its 2x the thief magnet

than my gtst.

sounds like drop the compressure on the engine,that not very good thing mate,

cost to rebuilt the engine from $5000~$10000+plus labour to pull the engine out and in $1500

if it was turbo,it will easy cost you about $3000 to fix include rebuilt the turbo,

good luck mate

Ok guys I need advice on engine/vin/chassis numbers.

It doesn't look right to me, I did find it hard to read

his writing. I will verify myself under the bonnet

and check the numbers with REVS before purchase

but here goes.

Engine : RB26047818A (seems ok)

VIN/Chassis: 6T91MPAAAR1BFH002

Thats doesnt look anything like my

gtst's number. I would have expected

a BNR33 or similar?

He's got writing like a doctor!

That VIN is the number it gets after being complied in Australia. Look at the plate in the back corner of then engine bay - next to the brake booster, I think it's there.

Mmmmm I am really starting to worry about this white smoke.

It occurred when the car was idling after being cold. Had it idling

for about 10mins.

The guy tried to convince me that all his cars did that after they

had been washed?

After reving a few times it did go away though?

The smoke was kind of blowing out and wafting vertically from

the tip it seemed very diffuse and light. Not blowing straight

out like I' ve seen other smoky zorsts do.

Im not sure whether to forget about it and save myself the $150.

I mean even with a pre inspectin check and compression test

the problem may not be identified, right.

This car is around $30k registered btw. Yes cheap for a 33R.

MMM.. im starting to get worried about the repeats... :D

Adding to the white smoke, may i ask... for such a stock car with stock wheels etc.. why does it have a fibreglass bonnet and what seems to be a fibreglass copy of the original front bar that is missing the orignal indicators and surround. Also a grill that looks like a copy with no GTR badge? Another thing to think about...

I wouldnt normally give my thoughts but think you should really consider some things i mentioned. :headspin:

    • Thank you for explaining. Makes more sense now. I saw that diagram but wasnt sure if the MAC solenoid would use the same plumbing. So I just did what the stock looked like. Ill get that fixed. As for MAP sensor, When I place vacuum line from MAP to stock location vac reference ( port by BOV flange ) the car runs like crap. I think the port is clogged or something, cause when I moved the MAP line to plenum and connected the BOV to that line, I get compressor surge. This is why I moved MAP vacuum line to plenum where BOV is. Where can I T the MAP vacuum? Sources Ive read said to let MAP vacuum be its own and not to T.
    • You've done it wrong. I don't have time right now to type up enough. I'll have to come back to it or maybe someone else will in the meantime. The boost signal has to pass through the MAC valve from boost source (turbo outlet - effectively anywhere between the turbo outlet and the throttle body will do, but closer to the turbo outlet is best) to the wastegate. What you have done is connected it sort of like the stock solenoid. But it doesn't work the same way as the stock solenoid. That Tee piece that you have connected the solenoid to....? The solenoid itself serves that function. You should look up a typical MAC valve connection diagram for a single turbo internal wastegate application. You'll find one easily enough. Every single boost controller manufacturer that uses MAC valves will have one. Bugger it, I'll just grab the HP Academy one. The other thing you have to get right is that the boost source has to be connected to the correct port on the solenoid valve. This is because the solenoid makes the valve switch from connecting 2 of the ports when it is unpowered, to connecting one of those first 2 ports to the third port when it is powered. One inlet, two outlets. You will note from the diagram that the common port is port 3, the port to the wastegate is port 2, and port 1 is the vent (where the boost signal escapes when the solenoid pulses ON). As to the BOV.... the vacuum signal for the BOV simply has to come from the plenum. It must register boost when you're on boost and vacuum when the throttle is closed. That's all. The original location on the plenum is best. Best practice is never to interfere with the vacuum line running to the FPR. Just leave that one alone, as you will avoid causing unintended problems that might occur if you mess something up.
    • I was able to complete installation of the G4X ecu. I needed to reroute MAP vacuum signal from stock location to where BOV is connected on the intake plenum. Has anyone needed to do the same? When I connect vac port by the BOV flange to my HKS BOV, it doesnt work and I get flutter. I would to get BOV working, where would it be best to T in? Or would it best for me to move MAP vac line and T into FPR? Secondly, I installed a MAC 3 port boost solenoid and wanted to know if i routed it correctly. I place two lines from stock boost solenoid and placed it on ports 1 and 2, leaving 3 vented. The T for wastegate and boost source on compressor elbow is on port 2, and port 1 is connected to turbo inlet intake pipe. Please see attached pictures. Ill upload ecu config later today. Thanks in advance.
    • some people are still around weirdly enough - most people just use facebook now to ask the same 12 questions tho XD
    • Omg Rezz! Yep we're still here and actually seeing a trickle of oldies coming back.  How's things?
