Recommended Posts

This car does not have stock wheels.

The grill has a GTR badge.

The front bar is not an original standard

front bar.

Just curious what color is the car you

are talking about.

Assumption is the mother of many mistakes.

Your reply is a bit smug please feel free

to PM me with any constuctive comments if

u know this car so I can avoid making a

mistake.

Are you sure the white smoke just wasn't steam coming from the cold exhaust in cold weather? Water condensation evaporates when the exhaust heats up and steam rises, that old trick? Maybe the guy wasn't talking out his ass because they would be more likely to do this when washed/rained on.

If it was "wafting vertically" and "diffuse and light" then it could be steam. Next time you start it from cold, watch the exhaust and "feel" the smoke. If it is steam it will condense on your hand and you will have a dirty wet palm.

I'd say the white smoke was actually steam as mentioned above - especially from the way you described it.

Let us know how the compression test and REVS check go!

I don't think it was steam. Although I didnt hold my hand above it to check (should have).

It did seem to go away though after a few decent revs... The engine reved out nicely. No strange sounds.

I'll let u guys know how the mech/comp test goes tommorrow. That and the REVS check are the last 2 hurdles the owner has accepted my offer.

I will loose the $600 from deposit and mech check but figure thats a small price to pay on avoiding an expensive mistake, if the mech check fails.

I will need to fix that door and the rear panel next to it though. Not a roadworthy issue but I cant stand things not straight.

Despite the fact it was probrably a little silly making a decision so quickly - I wouldn't stress too much. Chances are the car's still half decent. If it's had accident history that doesn't matter greatly either - as long as it's been repaired correctly.

Correct, but make sure the parts are correct items too.. i dont consider a fibreglass $300 copy of a bar appropriate for a gtr that should have a plastic bar that is worth $1700. And thats just an example.

If in doubt, get someone from the forum who knows more to go with you.

This sounds really sus, like its been smashed in the front end. look at the bolts fastening the front quater panels. Also look at any other bolts that fasten panels to see if they are new or are freshly painted over. Loof at the fmic mounts, pipe hose clamps etc. Have a look down the side of the car to see for straightness. check the hose clamps and fastners etc on the engine too for replaced parts. Be very very careful mate! good luck, hope you can find a good GT-R! :)

N/A you would do me a great service by PM ing me

all details so I can work out if it is indeed the very

same car.

You continue to leave clues and abstract comments

without helping someone out.

Is this too much to ask, or are there other issues

at play here?

If PM is no good feel free to email

[email protected]

If u are thinking that I should have enough info

to go on with you are wrong I need better

evidence so I would appreciate some help.

Thats not an unreasonable request is it?

White smoke can mean water is in the exhuast, also meaning steam.

It can also mean there could be a water leak into the engine from the water system, or water in the oil.

Get it checked out and decide after that, it shouldn't be of any great loss to you either way it goes.

I was watching some doco on National Geographic, and for the smoke that comes out of the back of those stunt planes, or the formation planes at the air shows, they said they dropped oil on the exhaust and the heat from the exhaust causes the white smoke? So don't know if that applies to a car, with an oil leak on a hot exhaust? Altho, if it happens as soon as you turn it on then goes away when it gets warm, that contradicts that idea a bit doesn't it?? Oh well :D

Good luck with the buy. I bought a car in japan a few months back, description was good and pics look ok, just hoping she's alright when it gets here. Hard to tell even when inspecting a car in person, let along not seeing the bloody thing :)

    • some people are still around weirdly enough - most people just use facebook now to ask the same 12 questions tho XD
    • Omg Rezz! Yep we're still here and actually seeing a trickle of oldies coming back.  How's things?
    • So I raised the car up a fair bit for shipping - see image - then lowered it again when it arrived. I then rushed to get an alignment in NL before the track and the shop just wasn’t anywhere near as precise as what I got in Japan. The guys that did the alignment this week said there was a fair amount of toe in the rear that could have contributed to the understeer. It was also the case that the rear camber went from about -2 to -3 at the shop in NL. However, since I’ve now got slightly wider tires in the rear - NS2Rs run wider than Accelera 651S - I could only get a minimum of -3 in the rear now due to clearance. Front is now -2.75 (-2.45 in minutes) due to being raised a bit (previously -3 in JP). So it’s likely a combination of the two factors, camber and toe. The issue now is I have more camber in the rear than the front and the next step on the front Cusco arms will put me at -3.5ish front which seems a bit excessive to me. The weird thing is I’ve never had any understeer at the track in Japan but they are very different circuits - Japanese circuits are much slower than the one I’ve been to here.    I’m probably going to have to start another thread for the E90. The plan is sort of to keep it as a daily but progressively mod it into a track car - honestly, you need a cage for the sort of speeds you go here. Just ordered the M3 front arms btw.  Love the car despite it being in pretty shitty condition. Oil analysis came back okay and it seems to have stopped consuming oil since fixing a load of engine bay things. Saw yours is a 335i right? f**king mistake on my part getting the DI N53 over the N52, fuel economy is insanely good though at 14-16 km/L.   Cheers, it’s great to see the benefits and pitfalls of different places. I’m contemplating going back to the U.K. around next year as the cost of living in the Netherlands is just ridiculous. GF is nagging me to settle and buy a house but I don’t know what LSD to buy.
    • Have you seen the Milwaukee Train Horn? It's a beast! I stumbled upon it while browsing for upgrades. I'm thinking of adding it to my ride for some serious sound. Here's the link if you wanna check it out: https://bosshorn.com/products/milwaukee-train-horn. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your method.
    • Anybody home...? I used to moderate this part of SAU about 20 years ago... hard to beleive it's still around basically unchanged with all the old posts pinned at the top. Amazing to read all those posts again.  If anyone drops by, I'm still in Japan (Nishinomiya, between Osaka and Kobe).  Cheers 🙂
