powder coating wheels is a few hundreed bucks or so.

probably was steam, plus old oil and filters might be not helping.

it would be a good idea to have it on a hoist and check it out .. always good to check out the driveline if possible. though engine and bodywork and wheels all seems ok so maybe it has been well looked after in general anyway :cheers:

For powder coating, PM Gary1 from these forums. He used to do that kind of thing for a living before a career change, no doubt he'd be able to recommend some good places.

On a side note - service the car immediately, and replace timing belt and idler/tensioner bearings or at the very least pull the timing cover off and inspect them. Also take it for a drive, head up a steepish hill at 80 or 100km/h, and nail it in 4th. As the car starts making power, listen for clutch slip. Also listen for pinging (back the fark off the throttle if you hear it!) and have a friend follow you looking for smoke of any description. A little fuel smoke when you first hit the throttle is generally ok, particularly if the boost is higher than stock, but if it continues or isn't black, back off and have it investigated.

You probably already know all this but I've said it anyway ;) They're all things I'd do regardless of what the previous owner says, for my own peace of mind.

Yea. It would be sitting the garage for a while so I would drop the oil, recharge the filters and do the timing belt then.

What does clutch slip sound like I thought that you would feel it rather than hear it? Pinging also I have no idea what that sounds like. I've heard lots of people talk about these things but if u haven't actually experienced them yourself it might be hard to identify?

The smoke bit makes sense. Thanks for the contacts will keep them in mind when the time comes.

Yes *apparently* it was owned by some Chinese businessman so I think it may have been treated well. However, signs are that he got bored with his toy and let maintenance slip in recent times. I'll rectify that.

A slipping clutch is generally easier to hear than to feel as such - the revs will pick up faster than the speed does, so you could say that it's what you're "not" feeling that's the problem :D If you're not sure what to look for, it kind of feels like you're getting wheelspin.

Not far from my place there is a nice steep uphill section that's right next to a cement barrier - makes it very easy to listen out for this (and to spooling, exhaust, etc ;)) Basically if you get up it, and you think the clutch is slipping, back off the throttle and see if the revs drop more than a hundred rpm or so. Higher gears are better as there is more force acting against the engine, therefore the clutch is more likely to slip.

As for pinging, it sounds like a 'ting-ting-ting' noise. If you were to hit the block with a screwdriver, the sound would be similar to that. It might be fairly hard to hear or it might be really loud (danger will robinson!), and it might only happen once or twice a second, or many times a second. Any pinging is bad. Basically it means that the engine is detonating, usually due to timing being too far advanced, which pushes combustion pressures waaay above where they should be, increases heat, melts pistons, flogs out bearings and gudgeons and generally is a Bad Thing ™.

its standard fare. if buyer puts the deposit and then backs out. the selller has the right to keep it.  Seller had to turn away potential customers or remove the ad.

By law this isn't right, goto any layer and you'll soon find out what your've just said is illegal.

The person who has given a dipsoit hasn't bouaght your car nor paid for your time nor for an ad in any newspaper so the seller can't keep any depsoit given to them for any reason other wise the seller would be stealing the possablie buyers money from them.

As I said if the seller tries to keep the money they can be taken to court and have to pay back the money and maybe pay for the court costs as well, and maybe pay for time wasted as an extra cost.

And that's the law not some made up crap.

A despoit is only for telling a seller that you are interested in maybe buying the car and to keep them in mind before they sell it to someone else, you could still sell the car to someone else, it doesn't hold a car to that person as they havn't boaught anything from the seller, but they will have to give the money back.

You'll have to forgive my lack of photographic skills and shaking hands.

She's pulling to the right abit perhaps wheel alignment needed not under

brakes and not too badly.

The brakes are dam squeky, bit comical at the lights.

I didn't get up it too much esp since the dealer had put

standard unleaded in it (she'll get a good dose of optimax soon.

Being a GTST driver most noticeable things were later but harder boost,

longer legs, better grip, cornering is much different I actually clipped the

left wheel taking the first 90 degree corner. Wont be doing that again.

Probably cos i was nervous driver.

The panel damage is minor on drivers side should be easily fixed.

Effortless acceleration. Tendency for speedo to get up there very quick on even

low boost.

Time for TLC, clean, nice oil, filter recharge, and eventually panel beating.

Looks great if it was a bargain. You can shine her up looking beautiful in no time with any luck.

I'd ditch the bonnet and front bar and get the factory ones put back on that might fit better first.

    • You've done it wrong. I don't have time right now to type up enough. I'll have to come back to it or maybe someone else will in the meantime. The boost signal has to pass through the MAC valve from boost source (turbo outlet - effectively anywhere between the turbo outlet and the throttle body will do, but closer to the turbo outlet is best) to the wastegate. What you have done is connected it sort of like the stock solenoid. But it doesn't work the same way as the stock solenoid. That Tee piece that you have connected the solenoid to....? The solenoid itself serves that function. You should look up a typical MAC valve connection diagram for a single turbo internal wastegate application. You'll find one easily enough. Every single boost controller manufacturer that uses MAC valves will have one. Bugger it, I'll just grab the HP Academy one. The other thing you have to get right is that the boost source has to be connected to the correct port on the solenoid valve. This is because the solenoid makes the valve switch from connecting 2 of the ports when it is unpowered, to connecting one of those first 2 ports to the third port when it is powered. One inlet, two outlets. You will note from the diagram that the common port is port 3, the port to the wastegate is port 2, and port 1 is the vent (where the boost signal escapes when the solenoid pulses ON). As to the BOV.... the vacuum signal for the BOV simply has to come from the plenum. It must register boost when you're on boost and vacuum when the throttle is closed. That's all. The original location on the plenum is best. Best practice is never to interfere with the vacuum line running to the FPR. Just leave that one alone, as you will avoid causing unintended problems that might occur if you mess something up.
    • I was able to complete installation of the G4X ecu. I needed to reroute MAP vacuum signal from stock location to where BOV is connected on the intake plenum. Has anyone needed to do the same? When I connect vac port by the BOV flange to my HKS BOV, it doesnt work and I get flutter. I would to get BOV working, where would it be best to T in? Or would it best for me to move MAP vac line and T into FPR? Secondly, I installed a MAC 3 port boost solenoid and wanted to know if i routed it correctly. I place two lines from stock boost solenoid and placed it on ports 1 and 2, leaving 3 vented. The T for wastegate and boost source on compressor elbow is on port 2, and port 1 is connected to turbo inlet intake pipe. Please see attached pictures. Ill upload ecu config later today. Thanks in advance.

    • Omg Rezz! Yep we're still here and actually seeing a trickle of oldies coming back.  How's things? 
    • So I raised the car up a fair bit for shipping - see image - then lowered it again when it arrived. I then rushed to get an alignment in NL before the track and the shop just wasn’t anywhere near as precise as what I got in Japan. The guys that did the alignment this week said there was a fair amount of toe in the rear that could have contributed to the understeer. It was also the case that the rear camber went from about -2 to -3 at the shop in NL. However, since I’ve now got slightly wider tires in the rear - NS2Rs run wider than Accelera 651S - I could only get a minimum of -3 in the rear now due to clearance. Front is now -2.75 (-2.45 in minutes) due to being raised a bit (previously -3 in JP). So it’s likely a combination of the two factors, camber and toe. The issue now is I have more camber in the rear than the front and the next step on the front Cusco arms will put me at -3.5ish front which seems a bit excessive to me. The weird thing is I’ve never had any understeer at the track in Japan but they are very different circuits - Japanese circuits are much slower than the one I’ve been to here.    I’m probably going to have to start another thread for the E90. The plan is sort of to keep it as a daily but progressively mod it into a track car - honestly, you need a cage for the sort of speeds you go here. Just ordered the M3 front arms btw.  Love the car despite it being in pretty shitty condition. Oil analysis came back okay and it seems to have stopped consuming oil since fixing a load of engine bay things. Saw yours is a 335i right? f**king mistake on my part getting the DI N53 over the N52, fuel economy is insanely good though at 14-16 km/L.   Cheers, it’s great to see the benefits and pitfalls of different places. I’m contemplating going back to the U.K. around next year as the cost of living in the Netherlands is just ridiculous. GF is nagging me to settle and buy a house but I don’t know what LSD to buy.
