I don't have the Spool built short motor but I purchased the 3.4 rotating assembly and had my engine builder do the work.

Airflow through the head is hugely important, don't skimp on this. I personally wouldnt put cams bigger than 270 as you don't need the revs especially for street use, make sure you degree them with a dial indicator. With my 26 head and 1mm OS valves, 10.8mm lift and 260 degree procams, mine makes peak power just before 8000rpm with a broad torque curve from 3000rpm. Turbo is a 6466 with twin-scroll 1.0AR hot side. Has made over 800rwhp on 28psi but its useless at this power, I actually prefer gate pressure which is 14psi creeping to 19psi and about ~550rwhp

Cootamundra??? Do you mean Temora???

and your talking hp in the thread but quoting kw in your sig, just wondering is all. 550 rwhp isn't anything too unusual - would have thought that you would get more with no real effort, thus my question re kw vs hp - but the torque would be phenonemal.

No I mean Cootamundra. Motive DVD Drag Battle.

KW/HP.. They're one and the same, sometimes ill quote one or the other haha. Ive made the peak power number that im comfortable running, and the car is useless like this. I prefer the car with around 400-420rwkw (540-560rwhp) as its the least 'scary' to drive and is still plenty enough to bake 3rd gear at 100kmh. Remember we're talking peak numbers here. The car still has 300rwkw at 4000rpm regardless of my peak power so yea its 'torquey'

Have now found a Neo head locally so have put an order in for a pair of Tomei 143023 B cams

Strangely finding a matching RB25 Neo or later R34 cas unit seems harder to find then the head was ?

Still need to find one or start looking at other ways of timing ?

Haven't looked into much else yet and tbh I didn't think about getting the head ported but its not to say I won't

What power will a std Neo head run to anyway?

760 at the wheels? So over 800 at the crank as a standard head/ports and valve sizes?

Yep I would personally be going to a crank trigger setup. There is a group buy on here at the moment for only $350 or so + machining of the harmonic balancer.

Cheers I will have a look for the thread. Am using a link g4 and have a aftermarket crank damper so I assume it will be compatible ?

Cheers, what are you guys using coil wise with the Neo head ? Matching Neo coils or adapted Gtst coils?

Car is using S1 Gtst electrics so still runs a separate amp

Only I've have a set of as new Nissan OE Gtst coils and although haven't tried it looks like their mounts are all out ?

You can adapt and make any coil work, with or without separate ignitors

Sounds good

You got a dyno graph to look at?

  • 6 months later...

wow, I think that mota & car build might be a bit more involved than mine lol

Have gone for the motor only on mine as tbh once this is built I plan to leave it be

Famous last words ...

As it is I've got my mota built up and in the car, but am now waiting on getting the exhaust manifold modded

Hopefully I will get sorted soon

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
