one8tsx,

aluminium engineering did all 4 wheels... the cost of repair varies with each wheel, depending on the extent of damage and necessary repair work needed... for a wheel that is not warped and not dented only with scruff, it will cost between $30 to $40 to fix it... 2 of my wheels cost $40 and the third cost $35 to fix... the last wheel was slightly off from being round even though it was not immediately visible... this cost $75 to fix... this can probably be considered a dent, albeit a very minor one... they are on old pittwater road, behind warringah mall... cash/cheque only, no eftpos...

thanks for the insight on the powdercoating process :D

cheers,

louis

yes,thanks for the great info:)

i have some 18's that need repairing but insted of powder coating im after polishing them.

i have been quoted $310 per rim for polishing, but i think thats way too much and might consider powder coating now, thanks to you;)

Just one thing, when you said the blasting took out a filler?what did you actually mean?

is it the filler that they repaired the rim with?

cause ill have to repair 2x of mine.

thanks again

well i've gained a lot from these forums and i just thought i'll put a lil back in :)

i'm not very sure on the repair process but i'm guessing that where possible, they try to machine it back  i'm guessing filler is used after the machining if there are still cavities in the surface?? the priming process for powder coating is sandblasting, which blasted away the filler in that one wheel...

a polished finish is nice, too, but $310 per rim??? :eek1: where did you get the quote from? a wheel place or a general aluminium place? the wheel places tend to charge an arm and a leg while the general aluminium places are more reasonable... try looking some of the window makers up in the yellow pages, they may be able to do it for you for less... next thing i'll be interested to see is a fully anodised wheel :D

    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
