i just got a s2 2wd stagea and want to swap to a manual trans from the auto box. a rb25 trans isnt that easy to find where i live but i can get a r32 or r34 gtr trans no problem. so my question is can i use the gtr gearbox ? obviously just not with the front prop shaft . if i can what parts are needed thanx for the help.

yeah i thought as much :( there arent many stageas in canada so info is pretty hard to source. there arent many r34 gtt either and even less wrecked ones about. there are tons of r32 and r33 gtr tho. hence my thought of the gtr box as an option. well now to try and source a gtt box and prop shaft.

Not to mention r34 gtr box is totally different, only has same bell housing, but that's it

Well its totally different from an auto box too. OP doesn't have a lot of choice - I am sure with the right attitude it can be done. Over here people put them in R32, R33, Stageas etc just a matter of determination and a lack of RB25 big boxes.

  • 3 weeks later...

ill get it swapped to a 5 speed eventually. im also looking into a t56 as a possible option. there not bad a price here. i know a guy who specializes in vettes so i can get one of those easy enough. i would need an adapter plate tho. i really would prefer a gtt trans thoi.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
