Just a quick question about oil coolers for GTR. I know I need one, but I refuse to pay the ridiculous money that is asked for the jap-branded ones. So basically my question is - does anyone have opinions on perma-cool oil coolers? I know they are a variation on the tube&fin design, but they claim to have proprietary design that overcomes the limitations of this type of cooler. The largest size they have suits up to 450hp, which is slightly more (I think) than my car makes at the moment, so I figure it should be OK. My other option would be to import a MOCAL bar&plate cooler that the UK guys swear by, but this unit would have to be much smaller due to size/weight/cost limitations.

I realise you get what you pay for, and I shouldn't skimp on parts for a car like a GTR, but there is also a difference between spending sensibly and getting ripped off.

So: Perma-cool - good, bad, avoid like the plague? MOCAL? worth the effort of importing from UK?

I got this TRUST kit for $843. I got a few other things aswell so I am unsure what the delivery was exactly. Its the 16- row kit mounted in the fender, and filter relocation kit. It very comprehensive and I am getting it fitted this Wednesday when I take my car in for its first real service since getting it from compliance. Not sure how much cheaper you could get a complete car specific kit for.

jlnewton, nice exactly what i'm after - where did you get that from?

I got it through Greenline, I usually go through Nengun but he never got back to me, and hasn't the last couple of times. So now Greenline has my business. He did note on the quote that it was a discounted price and it was slightly cheaper than the price for the 10row infront of radiator type on their page so I might have just been lucky.

One catch with this kit though, it can't be used with standard BOVs as it sits in the right hand fender and there is not enough room with the stock BOV setup there. Mine came with twin dual chamber Apexi BOVs which would have been fine but I wanted to plumb it back so I got the TRUST type R to do this.

Lucky I went to all the trouble of finding a set of stock BOVs to fit. Oh well.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
