hi all,

I recently spray painted my rocker covers. im not sure what type of paint the painter used but basically his work is shit.

anyway when i remove the engine oil cap, the contact area has some of the paint being stripped off so im sure some of it mustve ended up inside the oil.

is this bad for my motor / turbo oil lines? or the oil filter will do its job filtering the dry painted flakes ?

thanks

If it were me i would;

1. Remove rocker covers and clean all paint off the inside and cap area (ie keep all the areas clean that the factory left clean). Remove any flakes from the top of the motor.

2. Drop oil and filter. Cut filter open and inspect for flakes

3. Refill with cheap oil

4. Drive for 50 kms

5. Drop oil and filter

6. Refill with good oil

7. Keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge with a high degree of paranoia (worried about paint flakes on oil pick up).

8. Cross fingers

Might be too paranoid..... a photo would be good.

I had pickup blocked from powder coat on rocker covers ( no it wasn't my doing). Killed the engine.

Paint shouldn't be a problem, but if you have flakes - remove rocker covers, Clean it asap and get camera in sump to look at pickup.

I cleaned the pickup twice and it still ended up starving the bottom end of the block.

wow. how do you end up with powder coat flakes.....coater must have been a real butcher

Guessing inside of rocker wasn't prepped properly and the oil/heat/fuel did the rest.

Still a sore point and have a bee in the bonnet with the fabricator....

    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
