Car Battery Cable

Hi guys

Changing my r34 battery cable , what amp rating should it be and what brand is the high quality stuff?

I have seen 30 amps but think that will not be sufficient

what section are you replacing?

the longer the piece the thicker it should be

30 amp cable is 4mm2 and is not battery cable, if your referring to cables from the battery to chassis, or terminal block then they should be 35mm2 at a bare minimum (thats probably factory size) but i wouldnt use under 50mm2 cable on my own car.

with my battery being in the boot i have the factory 35mm2 cable plus a 70mm2 cable strapped alongside it, with 70mm2 cables between the alternator,starter motor and junction block

Planning to relocate the battery

Does 70mm means it is 7cm in thickness ? That would be huge

Its the surface area of the cable. Maths will let you figure out the diameter.

A 30amp cable like you suggested would melt instantly

Sure what is the standard amp for gtt?

Any brand that you guys prefer

What happens when the cable is 200 amp and you have a cold cranking amp of 500 ?

Is it because it is milli seconds it will be quick and not melt cable?

What happens when the car does not crank over and you keep ignition open?

Get 2ga or 0ga audio cable.

30 amp cable your suggesting will turn into a heater element and torch your car.

Please also run an appropriate fuse as close to the battery as possible

Agreed - 2AWG should be fine (0 is overkill imo)
