Jeremy's A31 Cefiro

Hey everyone. I'm new to Nissan's with this A31 Cefiro, but luckily, I'm in the motherland . I just picked up this Cefy, and luckily she is old enough for me to take her with me when I have to leave in September.  Nothing definitely solid as far as plans for her yet, but I do kinda have a general idea.  For now I'm going to stick with the RB20DET she came with since that will make it easier for me to ship and import if I have to go back to the US.  So for now I'm looking to do cams, injectors, and a bigger turbo, along with a standalone ECU.  Haven't decided just yet on the interior, but I really like the look and feel of the Bride Euroster seats.  The car is pretty much bone stock other than some basic audio upgrades.  Anyway, here she is.

Haven't been able to do much on the car lately other than acquire parts.  I did manage to put in a set of Splitfire coilpacks, replaced spark plugs, changed oil, and replaced the air filter.  So far I've managed to stockpile a set of LMGT3's in 17x9 4 lug, a set of S13 coilovers (HKS rear and KTS fronts), a Nismo 2-way (I need to find an ABS rear end though so I can build though so I can build the assembly then just put it in the car instead of the car being down for however long it takes me to do it), a Haltech Elite 2000 with patch harness, and a stock R32 GT-R crankshaft.  This is in addition to the body kit I bought from a friend, RB25 block and transmission.  So far the plan is to drop 26 internals into the 25 block and build for somewhere between 400-500 HP.  Also, I found out that I am going to Ramstein, Germany next, so I'll only be about 160 km from the Nurburgring.

Is that due to cost, complexity, or minimal power gains? I have several friends that have GT-Rs and are building them up so I can pick up 26 internals for relatively cheap if that is the issue.

Someone with more knowledge than me should know if it's even possible (I don't think it is), do some googling. Plenty of people on here pushing 320+rwkw on stock rb25 internals. Just freshen the stock motor up and you'd be good to go. Putting a RB25 neo head on a 25 is just as good as having a 26, without the oil issues.

Sorry, for being completely AWOL on the thread lately.  Got busy getting ready to move and everything.

Status update:

Got the LMGT3's mounted but was slightly mistaken on the size. The fronts are 17x8 and the rears are 17x9

Also, ignore the flat tires, they were aired up right after the picture was taken.

The suspension will be sorted out once I get the car fully registered so that nasty wheel gap will go away.

Trying to decide what the next upgrade/project will be.  I have the Haltech that I can "install" since it only requires swapping two injector pins on the harness.  Has anyone used the supplied RB20 map to run a stock engine? I'm assuming for completely stock it should be pretty accurate.

I also have the Nismo 2-way that I can put together.  I kinda want to look at changing the ring and pinion to get a different ratio.  If I remember right the Cefy is 4.3 which keeps the revs a little high for autobahn driving.  I'd like to see about swapping to a 4.1 or maybe 3.9.  Has anyone done this on a Cefy and have can give me their take on it?  Hopefully I will be more consistent with working on the car now that I will be here for a few years.

No real progress on the car since the Nismo wheels had a leak around the valve stems, so I'm waiting on replacements.  For now I'm using the original wheels with some cheap winter tires I picked up.  Once I get up to decent speed (90+ km/h) I get a lot of wind noise, so I'm looking to replace all the rubber door seals.  Does anyone know of a good place to source those from?  Also, I want to adjust the latch on the doors as a couple of them seem a little bit looser than I think they should be.  Anyone know the process for doing that?

Minor update, I think my headlight stalk shit the bed. My headlights got to where they would switch on the high beams with no gauge lights. Checked the fuses and relays. Fuses were good and best I can tell the relays are good too.  Tried to clean the contacts in the switch and got one low and high beam to come on left side, nothing on the right side.  So anyone got an A31 or C33 switch they don't mind parting with? Needing something ASAP to get her back on the road. All other projects are sidelined until I can get this sorted out and I really don't want to attempt wiring in a toggle switch if there is absolutely any way to avoid it.  I found a post from Dorigecko about 8 years ago saying he had one, but that was 8 years ago lol.

@Swz3 Thanks.

Finally got off my lazy ass and did a little bit more work on the car.  Not having my own garage anymore really sucks.

I tracked down a new headlight switch and got that put in.  I also installed a USB port in the center console instead of having wires trailing from behind the head unit.  In addition to cleaning things up a little bit, it also allows two phones to be plugged in, one charging and one sending audio to the stereo.  I also finally got around to replacing the valves in my LMGT3s.  While I had the tires off, I split the center off and plasti dipped them black.  The wheels need to be refurbished anyway and I will get them professionaly powdercoated/painted then, but wanted to test the look for a bit before I spent that kind of money.  This weekend (hopefully) I will get around to putting the suspension on to bring it down a little bit.  We'll see what happens after that.

    • I can believe it if you're getting air into the pickup. Cavitation is tremendously destructive for pumps.
    • I think the pic in the first post is another car, and post 7 is OP's car with standard arms and swaybar swaybar swaybar. I can't tell what brand the silver coilovers are, and even if I could I don't know whether the spring rate is OK, if you can find a brand on the shocks and numbers on the springs that might help. Also, if you can measure the ride height from centre of your wheel to the guard that will help with advice too as handling suffers if ride height is too low
    • sadly, pics no work. that car must have spent a lot of time in a cryo bubble
    • In the first photo you posted, the colour of the control arms are the signature colour for Ikeya. Same for the swaybar, signature colour for Whiteline.  I like Hardrace, they also do hardened rubber bushes if your car is mainly a street car.  I like GKTech as well, but they use a lot of rose joints in their stuff so might not be the best choice for everyone.  The system might have been good back in its day, but it's a prehistoric system now. I suspect that most people have removed the HICAS as they want the car to do what they want to do, not what the car wants to do. From what I also understand, it isn't consistent in it's behaviour on track so it's hard to trust the car/know where its absolute limits are for track use.  Having said that, I think the HICAS eliminator kit was the first thing I installed when I bought my car. I don't personally have any experience with the HICAS system on a race track.
    • Thanks for the info. Didn’t know I had aftermarket control arms already? Will talk to my garage. What brand would u recommend if I want to play around with my camber more? I would think my camber is around stock level right now or more negative now due to lowering with coilovers. I will be lower her again 1.5 cm to get some more.    also why does everyone like to remove the hicas system? Is it because most don’t work properly anymore or ppl just don’t like them. Mine is functioning as it should be right now.    thanks for the good info
