Valve Spring Compressor for RB26 - Head On

My tuner doesn't have a suitable tool to put my valve springs in with the head on.

Kelfords said this tool is the go - YA9140B - http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/blue_point_valve_spring_compressor_tool_ya9140b.htm

I've also seen this version: http://www.fishpond.com.au/Homeware/Schley-Products-91400B-Univ-Valve-Spring-Compressor/9999065475933?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=ps&utm_campaign=AU&gclid=Cj0KEQjw76jGBRDm1K-X_LnrmuEBEiQA8RXYZyoVyljO04nCnoXDOS1Pqk9navIpzlAgE6w5r3LkHtcaAj4X8P8HAQ

Any other options out there before I pull the trigger and buy one?

did my evo valve springs with one of these tools.. worked great.

either compressed air or shove a clean rag down into the cylinder to protect the piston crown. turn to tdc to hold valve up.

That's a head off the car though and talks about putting cushion under the valve...

Also being an Evo I have no idea how recessed those valves are compared to 26.

Can anyone else comment?

I've got a toyotool which is just a compact version of the above. All you need to do is have an air fitting on the plug hole so the cylinder is pressurized to keep the valves up. I have done this with success though I had the piston at tdc just incase so the valve wouldn't drop out completely.

Best thing to do is take the bonnet off because you'll want to climb up and get your body weight over the tool. It will make seating the collets with the heavy springs waaaay easier.

The stock springs will just need a pop of a weighty plastic face hammer on the collet extraction tool.

Springs are in, not the cams as there was an issue with part numbers, and the Tuner said that tool worked fine but noted the job was painful, fiddly and time consuming with the head on.

So for anyone else interested, that tool works and helped installed BC springs, which are 80 or 90lb seat pressure, with the head still on.

Thanks for the assistance :)

    • thanks for the advice on the box... i was thinking the 6 speed was better for cruising on the highway but on closer inspection and comparison the Rb 5 speed box was not too different...  So the choice is going to be the RB25 box... if I can save up and find one at the right price
    • Thanks Matt, yes that's what i am aiming for. Just going to apply the right voltage and grounds to the dash connector. Hence my search for these pins... any chance you know if these pins are in the same spot as the ones on the S15 Dash connector? as mentioned above on page 8?
    • Yes, unfortunately that's the one. Signal was noisy to begin with; after driving once and looking back at the logs I saw pressure constantly swinging between 0-200psi, or staying at 0 randomly for a few seconds. There's a lot of good sensors that share the same look and feel, so don't presume they're all bad. I bought mine for 20$ off Amazon and I should have read the reviews prior, as it's clear they're junk.  I purchased a lowdollerr motorsports sensor.
