Everyone who said this was all a scare tactic and nothing would come from it, the EPA has been coming down very hard in the USA including handing out huge fines to car at Rocky Mountain race week.

so again I ask do you believe this will come to Australia and will it mean the end of modifying our cars

Where was this guys workshop?

Any workshop in Cali not complying with emissions can be subject to fines

I believe the "race use only" isn't a thing in Cali

"Coming to Australia".....you're a bit late!

Unless you're Rip van Winkle, the EPA for the last 30 years, at least in NSW, have demonstrated that modification, as what is performed over there to registered cars, is illegal.

A proper race car is unregistered or on a permit at best - nil effect locally - and suspect the same there.

I was under the impression that Australia has had much more stringent requirements for a while now with cars getting defected for all kinds of reasons in some regions.

Technically a standalone ECU that is programmable with no limitation has always been illegal for a street car. The EPA just has never had any reason to go after people until widespread popularity of coal rolling and hiding emissions equipment deletes with ECU tunes forced their hand.

It sucks for the distributors caught in the crossfire for selling fairly innocuous stuff but it’s been decades of turning a blind eye on the part of the EPA.

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
