I've been trying to look for information about swapping my r34 with a vq35de, I bought an hr34 and really don't know which route to take. My thoughts are to turbo it or swap it.

I'm based in Japan and have access to auctions. 350z are being sold for a low price. Around 300k JPY to give you guys an idea. Putting work on my rb20 would probably cost more for less power. 

Now my questions are;

If I were to buy a 350z and use the harnesses and everything would I be able to keep my interior stock? Like my speedometer, A/C or I would go better off using my stock harness; if so how can I mate it to the engine side.

 

How can I keep my A/C running?

 

And lastly if I were to do it, up to which parts will I be able to use? 

 

I hope someone can help me out.

No idea about 350Z things but...

Keeping your stock Tacho, thats easy.
Keeping your stock Speedo, thats easy. Just keep your ABS ECU
Keeping your A/C, thats easy, the signal is just an output from the AC control unit that runs through the standard ECU.

Interesting choice really.. Wondering what youre doing with the car? is it a drift car or something along those? 
the VQ35DE youre limited to like 250-260whp Realistically (although those motors are cheap $1200-$1600 Generally)
 

The DE's also burn quite a bit of oil Which is why you would better off doing a VQ35HR or VQ37VHR however then it becomes somewhat even more complicated 😅

Quite doable. Just needs the work put in.

So I'll use the r34 harnesses and somehow fit it to the new engine? 

Using the donor car's coupler and everything? If I were to do that wouldn't it keep me from using the vq's ecu?or  I could just use the vq's harness and everything and rewire the interior electricals of my r34?

Yes I'm planning to make it a drift car but yeah I'm still planning to use it as a daily. I'd love to swap in an HR to be honest. Wpuld it be a harder task to do?

No problems if you have the money to deal with all the finnicy parts that come with a swap aha. look into a VQ37VHR swap if you can get one cheap. here in aus theyre also very cheap motors. Strong too. Easily 600hp On stock internals if you want to boost it ;)

More about it being done (13+ years ago....) than anything else.   You're in Japan so drop into Top Secret and ask them 😎.   Alternatively, throw lot's and lot's of money at them and I'm sure they'll do it for you.........

No. Think more along the lines of laying the new VQ harness down on the floor, taking off all the insulation, stripping out all the wires in it that will not be needed in the R34, then working out how to put back in all the wires needed to work up against the R34 body harness (ie, dash, fuel pump, ABS signals, etc etc etc). See the Skid Factory video on YouTube on doing an engine transplant loom merge.

There is no easy way. Only the lots of work way. And lots of understanding what the wires are for too.....

Not everyone is blessed with so much money man. I mean if I had the money I'd probably do that. Thanks man! I mean it's not impossible I just wanted some advice of some sort because swapping doesn't come with instruction manuals and I'm not really that knowledgable about it.

Thanks man I'll look into that! Is it possible to merge the r34 loom with the vq ecu? Or I'd have to buy a standalone?

Hi mate I have put a vq35de into a r33 drift car. The wiring is straight forward, I can send you thru the engine harness diagrams for both - it does require some work, took me a weekend but only spent about 6-8 hours total on it going slowly. 

You will need to notch the chassis rails, since the r33 was a stat write off, we cut out about 20mm and boxed it back in. On a street car it would be more suitable to make some new headers for clearance. I believe r34 shared the same chassis rail width as a R33. 

You will also need to bash the firewall in for clearance of the gearbox, and cut a new hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter (I believe serial nine may have a shifter that puts it in the right spot now though). 

Other than routing new ac lines, power steering lines, fuel lines, charcoal canister, brake booster lines etc its a fairly straight forward. 

Definitely wasn't worth the effort in my opinion, go an LS.

    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging.     • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling,etc
