Heya peeps, I am looking to put a QUAIFE lsd into the rear of my barge.

It's a S2 AWD Auto and would like to know if the following model number is the correct unit?

QUAIFE model QDF7L to suit an R200 29 spline.

Eventually I would like to have an LSD in both ends of the car and to have both the same type, so that's why I wanna have a quaife instead of a clutch type at one end and helical the other that behave differently.

Look forward to responses either for or against.

I have a Quaife front and rear in a GTR.

In my opinion they are excellent 👍

Don't suppose you remember the model numbers of them at all? And what model gtr?

Fitted to 32 GTR. Front is QDF3L and rear is QDF14L, which required 31 spline to replace the early GTR 30 spline. The QDF7L is indeed the rear 29 spline for rwd cars.

Cheers, just need to know if it's the correct one for the stagea now

OK crew, I've not been able to get any info on whether there is a drop-in fit quaife diff that use standard 30 spline axles with 5 bolt flanges.

So I can get either 29 or 31 spline centre that will use 6 bolt stub axles, therefore I need to know which stubs to get and what driveshafts will be the correct length etc for a S2 auto landbarge?

Cmon people please gimme something,anything.......

There isn't.

The options for Nissans are

1) GTR
2) S15
3) 350Z

Quaife make nothing that suits anything else.

Yes as stated in the previous comment, I know there is no direct replacement, so I would need to use a 6 bolt flanged stub axle and different driveshafts. What I'm asking for is which model stubshaft and drive shaft will be the correct lengths to suit the quaife centre that I CAN get and put in my housing.....

I get what you're saying now - It may be worth attempting to reverse engineer this

What is required to take whatever you have and convert it to GTR, S15, or 350Z diffs?

I would wager there's no way to truly know without replacing the whole thing, or at least being able to replace the entire thing and see where you end up.

Sincerely, R34 GTT owner in similar/identical situation.

Yep, I was hoping to not need to be the first sucker to re-invent the wheel for a change, and thought that surely someone else would have been down the same path? at least once and that they would share the knowledge gained in the process.

Even the Nismo clutch type diffs requires changing to a 6 bolt shaft, so was also hoping somebody could remember the driveshafts part numbers used to convert to 6 bolt

People commonly put a Quaife in the front and a Nismo (or other) in the back. In my old S1 I just put a whole GTR rear end in it giving me the LSD and GTR brakes. Might have had to change over the attessa rings (can't remember). Mind you I got it for $1200. Prices may have gone up....

I have conceded defeat and ordered a Nismo GT package that comes with the stub shafts to match my 5 bolt drive shafts etc, so it should bolt straight in hopefully, I wanted to avoid having to modify or make up mismatched drive shafts to my hubs as it already has a big brake kit fitted with 4 piston 340mm discs on the back.

Have new chassis and diff housing urethane bushes ready to fit once the housing and centre has been tarted up and gear set is dialled in ready for fitment.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
