Hello SAU team

I just had a my 2020 RV37 Skyline 400r serviced by my local mechanic and he has noted that there is a coolant leak coming from the water pump.

He mostly does European cars so he wasn't sure is this is a common issue with the VR30  and how to address it .

Any chance anyone can advise on this issue and if I need to replace the water pump (guessing its the same as the ones in the Infiniti Q50 red sport ADM).

Regards

Deepak

If coolant is coming out of the pump bleed hole it means coolant has bypassed the pump shaft seals, so it’s fkd. Do u replace the water pump with the timing belt? (All OEM)

I expect there will be 2 water pumps so you will need to know which one.  Also I think they are much less likely to leak than a mechanical one so I hope they are confident it is from the unit not the hoses/clamps etc

On a related question, does anyone have an online parts lookup that covers these, and a 400R VIN to use?

I haven't been able to find an ADM VIN parts lookup for the Q50RS

Thanks for the response Guys , so far the mechanic has topped up the coolant and I haven't noticed and further leaks , I'm going to see if there local workshop who might have a bit more expertise on the imports. if the pump needs replacing I'll give you guys a heads up.

I would sign up to www.infinitiq50.org ask there, plenty of owners on there that may be able to advise of any common issues.

The 400R is just a red sport with a few extra cosmetic changes, so mechanically they will be the same.

Which coolant are you seeing leaks with? the engine coolant (which uses a belt driven pump, part number 21010-4HK0A), or the intercooler/heat exchanger coolant, which uses 2 electric pumps.

For a parts listing, try this -
Nissan Infiniti Q50 with V37-RHD frame, 06.2016 - ... - Genuine parts - Amayama

Quick update Guys , managed to get the water pump replaced . I first my mechanic went back and forth with Nissan AU (4 weeks) and they weren't much help, at the end they noted something about not supporting imports. So I soured the part myself from Japan.

If anyone has similar issue here is the part numbers

  • Genuine Nissan PUMP ASSY-WATER - 21010-4HK0E
  • Genuine Nissan Gasket - 21014-4HK0A

Cost me about $230 including shipping (I had in within 10 days thanks to Blackhawk in Japan)

They are basically the same as the Red Sport or even the new Zed - here is link to a supplier in US who helped me confirm the parts matched

You can change it yourself if you like , but I had my local workshop do it , it was about 5 hours of labour.

Cheers

Pac

    • Im loving this thread. I have a g35/900 t4 split 1.00 ar going on my rb30/25 with 9:1 and 264 cams. its drive by wire and with vct i think it should spool nicely. I have the 8speed gearbox on the floor ready to go on so full boost changes will be a thing if the tyres can deal with it. it should always be on boost
    • The trouble for me is the automatic takes away so much from it. And the E92 has hydraulic power steering. Even after putting in an LSD you're looking at re-mapping the xDrive to be more like a Skyline which is just a lot of effort for something that is supposed to be easier and cheaper. I consider the E92 335i 6MT to basically be the obviously superior car to something like an R34 GTT. Half the price out here, the N54 makes so much more power so easily, is a far more refined car, etc. You do have to deal with the nightmare of the N54's foibles vs the B58 which is comparatively miles better and if a turbo does fail it's only one of them vs two and a lot less pipe spaghetti.  996 or 997 Turbo has the AWD system mapped like a Skyline. Basically always RWD unless engaging the front axle makes sense. A coworker let me drive his 997.2 Turbo 6MT and it's absolutely tremendous. I don't think I'd want more power in a street car.
    • I'm purely suggesting, what every multinational business out there presently does! And the world governments all day it's legal.
    • That's awesome. Fully serviced/full log book history for one of those cars is super rare from what I know. With JDM's like Skyline's, Supras, are quite hard to find one with full log book history. S15's seem to be somewhat of an exception, at least the spec s australian delivered models.
    • Hey all, It's been a bit since I have been able to update.  I pulled the fuel pump, first off it was a "universal" pump and the strainer was very clogged, and it was folded over on itself.  I replaced the fuel pump and all is well....  No more stalling.
