pretty much, what i said in the title how does this new hooning law work??

second of all how does this effect mechanics that are going for a test drive?? example the car isn't reving so i take it for a drive going rev crazy, or like the guy behind where i work does suspension set ups, alot of drift takes round the back for a bit of a spin pushing it a bit to test it, how are these guys gonna be treated, as all there doin is making a living i can't see the government building a test track behind each work shop

Its pretty simple, the rules of the road are set. Being a mechanic or a suspension engineer doesnt give you indemnity from these rules.

We all know that this is the way it goes, so if you get caught - wear it.

From what i heard on the radio today, the new laws have SFA to do with what you're car looks like, or what engine mods n so on, but more so the way you disturb residential area's with you're exhausts, burnouts, donuts and so on.

Sounds like just another reason to dob someone with a fine.

As you have all by now seen or heard ,the police now have the right to accuse you of being a 'hoon' and can do it once, twice, or three times in one day and your $60,000.00 pride and joy can be confiscated and not only not returned but sold off and you have no redress at all! Now if they think we are going to take this latest bit of bullshit laying down without a fight they have under estimated what strength lies within every one get of the fat arse and putting there hands up.(Trust me we need numbers and we need them right now-not like a lot of you who are soft c--ks and say your going to turn up to this and that and then back out with lame excuses!)Sorry if im sounding harsh but this the reality that the police have all the power we have no redress and tha dickhead rann and co are going to trust the police not to be corrupt! And you where we stand with defects on that score with the police either being instructed or taking some of the law into their own hands, and regency backing it up with their own little mix of illegal activities such as not complying to the ADR's that theyre trying to protect themselves and to top it off not being accredited to any other organisation( such as an iso or aust accredition) nor complying with the other checking centers aust wide nor complying with the aust gov. own recommendations with what should happen re polution checks on cars and how they should be carried out.

Anyhow this is enough from me ,but trust me, this effects everone who owns and drives a vehicle- they only have to say you have and thats it- it could be a grandpa reving up the car to back a heavy trailer or caravan on to his own propertyTHINK ABOUT THAT!

SKYLINE.... :bs!:

I agree with skyline. Im a bit worried that the cops can accuse you of excessive noise or burnouts with out any proof and they can take your car away after the third offence. I dont get on with are neighbours next door cause he is a shift worker and he spews when we go out on the weekend and always calls the cops and complains cause are cars are loud starting up and we warm them up for awhile so he is going to be able to make some bull@$#% up now about us hooning around the streets and get away with it and then ill get fined .... I THINK THIS NEW LAW SUXS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very concerned as well.

- How hard is it to chirp the rear tyres when you take off at the lights on a wet day - sorry you were hooning.

- Music was turned up too loud - sorry you loose your car

- Speed up to safely pass another car - sorry you were drag racing.

Lets face it, the police basically need proof in the form of a photo, or to show you the radar gun to be booked for speeding or running a red light.

If your tyres are worn or your car is otherwise (unsafe) you get sent to regency - who can remove the defect if it wasn’t warranted (i.e. the police need to have proof)

and in each of these cases you get a small fine or penalty and maybe a few points off of your licence (which you can contest in a court of law.)

But these laws only require a policeman to say they saw XYZ and you could potentially loose your $40,000+ GTR. Where is the burden of proof as is required for every other criminal offence? If all police cars were equipped with video cameras and they could prove your guilt then fine, you’ve been nicked, but without proof this s bullsh1t.

Are there any constitutional lawyers out there, because I think there must be a case in this lot.

This is what looks like will be happening soon.

“Hoons will be temporarily without wheels from the moment they are caught, and if their case goes to court, they face having their car impounded, their licence disqualified and the likelihood of a fine.

Some drivers could even be forced to forfeit their car after being caught three or more times,” said the Premier.

The Summary Offences (Vehicle Misuse) Bill will allow Police to issue a misuse notice, similar to a defect sticker, immediately restricting the vehicle from use by the offending driver for 28 days.

Subsequent penalties include:

  • First offence – maximum fine of $2 500 and the offender’s vehicle can be impounded for up to three months.
  • Second or subsequent offence (within five years) - maximum $2 500 fine, offender’s vehicle can be impounded for up to six months, licence disqualification for up to six months.
  • Third offence – can also lead to forfeiture of the offender’s vehicle if used for the crime.

Hoons using other people’s cars will be banned from driving that person’s vehicle and face a hefty fine as well as possible loss of licence for multiple offences.

and..

Actions to be defined as hoon behaviour include:
  • Vehicle racing, speed trials or pursuits
  • Sustained wheel spin
  • Creating engine or tyre noise likely to disturb residents
  • Breaking up the ground surface of parks or gardens without consent.

and..

A vehicle may not be impounded or forfeited if it would cause undue hardship to another person who owns the car.

The South Australian Government is not going down New South Wales’ path of blanket vehicle confiscation because of the high level of administration and storage costs to the Police.

Looks like a little loop hole will be to register/insure the car in joint names.

After reading a little more it looks like this law has stemed from Anzac highway Glenelg.

We can thank our brothers in their white hats flicked backwards, left shoulder sloped down, right wrist on the top of the steering wheel, big sub woofa in tha boot all in a V6 commodore with standard bendix brake pads that wouldn't pull them up from 100km/h without stinking.

but joel, they'll be the ones that get kained.. not generally the SAU population, unless of course they participate in such activites.

SA is just following WA, NSW, and QLD where they have had these laws for a while (although i think WA was fairly new). Seems they just copy what sounds ok on paper in the other states. In practice though, the hooning continues, just the idiots out there get caught. Doesnt' really achieve much, and havent really seen it impacting too much locally here.

Why just as i'm typing this, somebody in a rex decides they're going to floor it up the hill up our street.. happens 50 times a day.

TO ALL,

I've done my bit--- ive gotten off my fat arse and sent off a two page email to my local mp, who happans to be trish white minister for transport!!! RIGHT WHO,S NEXT???

PS - if you dont get off your butt and have your say now, dont complain later when they take your ride away.

You can find the email address of your local MP at

Hmm this all sounds a bit pear shaped to me. I recently sold my skylines and bought a aussie chariot. I have had not one single issue from cops. AT ALL

I was looking, just yesterday at getting another modified japanese car...but now am seriously reconsidering. I honestly don't have the patience for cops, regency, ricers, defects, fines, bla bla bla. Id like to have a tuff car but its just so painful! You have to worry about it all the time, take fresh undies on every cruise, cos of cops.. ..... etc etc

It seems like there are some loop holes (as with all Government laws).. with this new legislation. It is pretty ridiculous in a sense that it is becoming illegal just owning a motor vehicle..

So does this mean having a blow off valve is "undue noise" and we are going to have our cars taken away because we own a mechanical part that comes like that from factory?

So what right does that leave us with as public citizens?

I agree, the penalty doesn't fit the crime - taking a car away for doing a skid is pretty harsh

Might also get the assholes off the street that make owning a fast car so much tougher than owning a dungadore, or at least it will make them think twice before doing something stupid

I can see the street drift scene dying off very quickly

Will send off a email as well, as its a bit too harsh IMHO

Chris

I had a moto copper wave his finger at me a week or so ago for hitting a bit of boost in first slowly changed in to second at 35km/h and then changed in to third at 50km/h.

But yer it was hitting boost in first and having my stock bov let go that made him wave his finger. For Christ sake the in-laws in the VN commodore in front of me were still accelerating harder than what I was.

I've been hearing a new advert on the radio as of late.

Do not tailgate.

Driving in Sydney a couple of weeks ago I can see that SA drivers need a big lesson in road courtesy.

I think this is why most of the tailgating occurs in Adelaide.

Lack of courtesy to other drivers.

Maybe the advert should include "Do not tailgate and most importantly be courteous to other drivers"

Hell in Sydney if you sit in the right lane for no reason and hold up traffic people beep the horn at you.

Sit at a traffic light and wait for the green arrow instead of finding a gap in the traffic and expect people to be horn happy and abuse the crap out of you.

Thats one thing I don't miss about Sydney... Waking up to the sound of car horns.

Id like to see the first police officer who tries to enfores this law.....wont be a woman (no offence) and they wont be by themselves i reckon.

Only hope it applies to those midnight ***wit drifters through the hills, and drag ricers down anzac.....now time to register my car with my cat as half owner :D

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
