hey guys just wondering what sort of mods on the rb20 will give you around 230kw and if the injectors need to be changed then?

Personally I have never been able to get over 180 rwkw on the standard 270 cc injectors and that is with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a GTR fuel pump. I have 550 cc S5RX7T injectors in mine and Roy has GTR 444 cc injectors in his, if I remember rightly.

Hope that helps:cheers:

Hi Roy, Did you end up just getting another 2nd hand RB20? What kind of warranty did it come with?

That 222rwkw is a nice figure did you get ICE to tune it for you? What kind of air/fuel ratio are you running?

Any chance of posting up dyno graph?

Too many questions i know!

Yeh it was another 2nd hand engine. I did 2,500km on it with 3 sumps of oil before I got ICE to tune it. The engines normally come with 3 month warranties, but if you have modified bits (turbo, ecu etc) going on the engine they will more then likely only give you a start up warranty.

Yeh ICE tuned it. If I can find a scanner the ill post it up. Im a pretty hard man to please but I am happy with the tune. Drives really nice and from what im told is under what the turbo is capable of…LOL noone can decide if its all the engine is capable of or should we wind a bit more out of it. But the tuner has done the right thing whats the point of getting another 20-30hp if it means I need a tow home from Phillip Island:)

I don’t know what A/Fs as the graph I have only has power and boost. It doesn’t even have all the dyno settings down the bottom so doesn’t really tell you much other then at 4,000rpm it makes 84rwkws:)

Good stuff mate, when are you due over?

will have to take you for a spin in my car when you are here

Im not sure if that’s a good idea, id hate to go for a ride in your car and realise it makes the same power but with better response. For the time being im happy:)

But I have noticed that my power tapers off abruptly at just under 6,000rpm so maybe time for those cams:(

Im due over next Sunday thru to Friday 12-Nov-04

My power does a similar thing, Shauns thinking is that my dump/exhaust is a little restrictive, the dump pipe is a cast HKS item, but the front pipe upon measuring isn't a full three inches, more like 2 3/4inch pipe, so there is a little to be had there I think

apart from getting the boost controller sorted, I will leave mine as is for the summer and once the weather cools a little then might get my sapre motor's head ported and fit the GTR cams and gears

Will definatly catch up when you come over

Another night for drinks / and or meal?

Hope to catch up again Roy....i did like your car last time...plenty of go in that Trust turbo...mmmmm :aroused:

Mine'll be going 100% by then (stage 1:D), and Joel's on his run in stage....

nice mate, lots of grunt and a nice stable boost curve, it doesn't nose over too much up top

time to get my ebc working, hopefully for a similar result! ;) I will scan mine in over the weekend for a comparison

Ive never had prob with my AVCR…but I hear ppl say that AVCRs spike a lot and cant hold stable boost.

Would you believe I have my wastegate spring at 8psi and using the AVCR to dial in 12psi and 17psi. It creeps a little up top to almost 18psi but its pretty stable considering the soft wastegate spring im running…so in short, nothing wrong with AVCRs:thumbsup:

Yeh Duncan the thing starts to plateau a little at 6,000rpm, power cure doesn’t nose dive but I would have thought she would swallow a little more air up top. Looking at the result im starting to think about some 260/270 - 8.8mm lift cams again. Imagine the idle :whackit:

I have to say im pretty stoked with the results of the tune, the numbers don’t look all that flash on paper:( but on the road it feels not too bad

Was the dyno run in 4th gear? If so the graph stops at ~6,150 rpm, I hate it when they stop the graph, I like to see what happens all the way up to the rev limit. It is hard to tell where to change gear with a graph like that. Standard cams usually make max power at just over 6,000 rpm, so it looks quite normal. The reason it feels OK on the road is because it makes 5 psi at ~3,750 rpm and 10 psi at ~4,250 rpm. That's pretty good, a little bit of camshaft timing and some more lift would bring that down a few hundred RPM.

If the dyno run is in 3rd gear......well you have some work to do.

:D

*looking around for the "cold bucket of water" smiley after SK's comments* :D

As always, valuable comment. Now if only Roy would take me up on a deal on "apparently" 9.25mm lift cams. Is it even possible to make use of that much lift?

Yes, please confirm gear and what rpm max power was at.

Got my car back yesterday after Autronic install and it made 185rwkw @ 14psi with the original GTS-R T3/4.

It made its max just over 6,000, is this normal?

They said there was a shitload more in it but my fuel system is out of puff.

I dont have an EBC but they said it was a good idea to get one as to hold 14psi steadily when the pedal is mashed it has to ramp up near 17psi then drop a psi or two and then it holds 14psi to redline.

Is this a normal occurence and will an EBC make it able to get up to and hold 14psi without going over?

I will post up the charts tonight for scrutineering!

My peak power of 202rwkw done with a highflowed R34 GTT turbo, if its anything compare to, is at 145kmh which is roughly around 6000rpm in 4th gear so, yeah it seems that the cams maybe the next restriction, although my power doesn't abruptly taper off, it just slowly starts curving downward...

Should be interesting to see how many trackdays this unknown RB20 manages to withstand with these kind of power levels :D

I might come down to the philip island day next month just to see it :D

We always print our graphs with RPM on the bottom axis, and run in 4th gear. I don't understand why the kph reference, specially when you are trying to sort A/F. It is just anther calc to get back to the number you want....

Roys looks like something from Mt. Buller to me... we are going to run with full size exhaust next time out, so that should be interesting. Those p155y ones we run in Targa hurt the boost ramp something aweful.

Well done Roy, keep the faith

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
