hmm. If that is the case I might start looking at shipping with kiwi. It may have two advantages I can see. 1. kiwi is a very reputable car carrying line. 2. cheap customer clearance/broker fees.

How long did it take to for the surrendering process to go through?

In my case once it finally happened it took a couple of days......

Also in terms of how duty/GST is worked out, the exchange rate they use is taken at the day the ship left port in Japan (or the country of origin), not when it docks here. The rates are published on the customs website.

Well I hope the aussie dollar firms up a bit then between now and when my car leaves JP.

LW: any word on what the $150 a/c money got you?

Whoops, sorry, missed your question :P

All it gets me is a certificate from the DEH exempting my car from having to be degassed AFAIK. I would assume some part of it is a processing fee on the DEHs part (I would guess maybe $50), and the rest is probably CGLs fees for doing the paperwork/calling around/etc even though you (ie. the car owner) has to write the letter to the DEH ;)

Lucien.

It was done almost instantly. My car was shipped using NYK. My dude in J went to the NYK office with the original and surrendered it on the spot. NYK then transmit relevant info to their Fremantle office whereby I am now able to pay for the shipping etc upon sighting a copy of the BL . This can be done within minutes basically. The thing is the original must be sighted at the shipping companys office.

I paid $60 to have my aircon removed in J, along with a certificate of removal which the DPA said was ok. Perhaps youre getting stung $150 in Aus to have it removed. my bet the bastards will just dispose of the gas, cut out the receiver dryer and reef off the filler nozzles, but mine was all nice and neat and I can happily reuse all my bits if I wanted to. But im having to relocate my aircon r/dryer now because an oil cooler is where that use to be :P

JK

My problem is I think the B/L has been sent, which means it obviously can't be sighted. Still have till tuesday for it to show, so all is not lost.

The $150 is for an exemption. They don't remove anything at all: it means the car can be imported without having to have the aircon removed or degassed prior to delivery.

Yeah exactly, if you are importing pre-charged airconditioning in a vehicle privately you can apply to DEH for an exemption for the degassing rule.

If you are importing a car under SEVS and your RAWS has a license to import pre-charged equipment (many do) then you don't have to pay the $150 extortion to DEH at all. You need a copy of the RAWS precharged equipment license.

Well, pretty much everything is in order for my car.... just need the damn B/L to show. Feel free to start sacrificing ;)

Car is expected to be released tomorrow... I even saw the ship it came in on (the Polaris Ace) docked on my way to uni this morning -- other motorists must have wondered about the retard pointing and shouting at a ship :D

nice work LW... BTW I tried to find the MFD diagram for ya, problem is that its in the R34 GTR service manual, I've only got the Non GTR ones. So lucked out dude.

In other news, my MFD is working a treat :D

OK heres my story.....

Car has landed, cleared customs in Brisbane and is ready to be trucked to Melbourne.

I got a call from my broker this morning saying my Import Approval certificate doesn't match my chassis no. - DOTARS stuffed up my certificate and added an extra zero to the chassis no.

This means I start getting charged a holding fee until I get a new certificate mailed out to me. I also have to send my original back to them before they issue me another one!

The bastards will take atleast a week I know it..

Yeah I guess it's better than 6 months, I sent it express post and also asked them nicely to "Post it back in the express post envelope provided"

Have you got any idea of daily/weekly storage costs?

Between $20 and 60 per day. I think it depends on how long it is stored there. I was up for over $8K for mine.

congrats. My car is still sooo far away. I'm now focussing on selling the GTI-R. Only trouble is the number of test pilots who only want to come and drive the car, then tell me how it's the best GTI-R they've looked at, nothing wrong with it blah blah blah, then walk away... nobs.

Enjoy the 'R mate :(

Richard

Ive just been given a 11/89 R32 Skyline GTS for nothing so, I get to import another car all over again :( I'll apply for the import approval next week, wait on DOTARS and get the car on the last November boat or the first December boat. Are customs going to beleive I paid nothing for it? I hope so :( It will be my second import so hopefully most of the process will be as easy as the Cefiro was :(

Hope it turns up on time - believe me, any extra wait is a real pain.

It seems from what you say your car has already been through Customs/AQIS inspection, etc. It's interesting how things happen differently in different States - absolutely nothing was going to happen with my car until the B/L arrived, but not a word about a/c requirements and certainly no fees (yet........).

My car is going through compliance at the moment, it's pretty standard, so I don't think there will be any problems.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
