Duncan, good point, i guess you could look at it that way!! rta was my messenger eh lol.

70 over is not cool, only because even though it might be safe (ie. m4/2/5) at 3am or something!) we all need to abide by the RTAs stupid speeding laws to avoid voluntary taxes! voluntary taxes are not cool.

anyway i didnt even get caught in my skyline! i was in my other car, suzuki swift! so i guess i gave swift owners a bad name. what a hoon car eh.

Guys that speed that far over the limit on a public road deserve everything they get. I don't feel like being killed by you. Go to the track. I've had my licence for 9 years now and haven't lost a point, driving a worked 1600, Torana and finally the 'line. Guys, ok you can handle the speed, but what if someone checks up the road (intersection or pedestrian crossing) sees the car coming, and pulls (walks) out, assuming you're doing the speed limit. Kill someone and you're doing time. Think about it.

hehehe

I dont think this is every sat from what ive seen on the m5. First ive seen in yonks and i always drive home the m5 that way. Never seen em turn a truck docking into a RBT that large. The next morning they had a double semi trailer take away all the cars that the drivers had gone over the alcohol limit.

i drove past last sat as well after a rave (transmission). Anybody know if they test u for banned substance abuse at these rbts by any chance? Not that i am admitting to useing it here.

I think theyre giving their new technology stuff a trial in melbourne before they bring it to the rest of oz...so you can be smakked off ur brain and drive for now..but it wont be long till they start testing band substances along with alco in rbts... ps.i do not condone drugged driving...

i think you should all go easy on him, who can honestly say they have never sped?

its not that hard to get to 140 is it?

And get a bus pass.

i agree... its bad enough the poor guy has to go through all this... without everyone yelling at him and telling him what an idiot he is... i'm sure he is already aware of how wrong it could have gone!

We have ALL speed on public roads, and if you say you haven't, i'll call you a liar!!! show a lil sympathy and support guys... jnr is looking for advice... thats what these forum is about... so why don't we all try being supportive? I'm sure he is shattered enough without having to deal with all your criticism....

mate, you still have a degree of risk dying on a track as you do a public road, i can even show you a video of how messy things could get on a track :(

that said, he's not here bragging about the fact he was being stupid, being performance car enthusiasts its a given were all stupid behind the wheel at times! the other thing is, if you knew this stretch of road you'd understand how tempting it is to speed there.

its about exercising caution where necessary. in jnr32's instance, and me knowing that very stretch of road, i think im at liberty to say he wasn't being stupid and speeding in a built up unsafe area - he took a risk to speed and it didnt pay off.

I am with Mona on this one......

There are always those times when the road ahead looks clear, you give it a squirt in 3rd and next thing you know you're going a lot faster than the number on the sign says you can. It's a temporary thing, you give it the berries for a couple of hundred metres and then slow down again. Most of the time you get away with it.

140 in a 70 sounds huge but remember homebush bay drive is a 2 lane split carriageway with bugger all on each side of the road. I can think of a lot stupider places to be doing 140 in a 70, which is ironically why cops trap there because it feels (and is) safe to travel a bit faster.

140 in some 60 or 70 zone is nothing for a Skyline.

There are many roads that are artificially low for no good reason. Like many of you guys, I've got an impressive road record so unless you have a pristine record one cannot really judge.

I've been done unfairly but these are the laws we have to abide by, right or wrong.

If you're sitting at 70, 140 is seconds away in 3rd gear.

I'm a big proponent of 'no harm, no foul' - in a safe environment, no drinking, no pedestrians, I don't see any reason to deprive someone of a license for a year and $1,500 for 10 seconds of bad judgement.

This is the sad money grubbing environment we drive in so be sure that when you drop the hammer, the cops are nowhere around.

Perfectly straight road, non-pedestrian environment like Homebush Bay Drive, I'm not silly enough to cry 'wolf' and say you're endangering anyones' life let alone mine.

T.

Got done doing 140 in Homebush Bay Dve on saturday nite...

6 Point and $1559...

Anyone know what kind of suspension this atracts?

It all depends if on your ticket the little box that says court appearance is ticked or not.

If it's not then it's 6 months suspension, 6 points and the $1599 or whatever it is.

If it's ticked, the above is the minimum (it's legislated like that) and the judge can do more. Max $2200 I think and dont know bout suspension.

If this results in loss of points it's extra 3 months (unless court, again judge can do whatever that is only minimum).

My advice to you is foremost if you have money get a lawyer - but be prepared not to save any money. Secondly if you can't get a lawyer don't go to court IF you intend to plead guilty and get a smaller fine/punishment .. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN these are legislated minimums. If you go to court you'd better have some good shit to front with.

Also a tip to you - under freedom of information request all records pertaining to your charge be released to you. Also request the officers record of traffic convictions (if poss) and their radar (i think its usually a silver eagle or something) calibration certificate. Also get their highway patrol certification.

But yeah traffic lawyers know all the angles.

mate

i was in exactly the same position half a year ago

got done on same road, homebush bay drive doing 130 in a 70 zone..first day home from uni and trying to get home asap. And hit 130, started to slow down but was already too late. Copped $1559 + 6pts demerits...+ 6months suspension which im serving now.

The cop was "nice" enough to put 45kms+ on my fine, so i only get the 6months and not 60kms. I think i get another 3 motnhs or so if your over 130kms

that was my first conviction as well, but yeah since then ive learnt my lesson and well i dont recommend anyone speeding, coz public transport sux.

Get use to taking public transport and not having a car, I've learnt to live with it, and the last 3.5months have been a big learnin experience for me since I've been driving for 2 yrs. But during your suspension you can chuck heaps of crap on ur car from all the petrol money u saved =) which i have done!

bUt yeah good luck mate, and make sure u learn from ur experience, coz i certaintly have!!

Cheers

GuiLty

i agree with franks and for those people who know nothing about the road or situation please shut the fcuk up? Stop critisizing others coz no one gives a crap what you think ok? This bloke has done something stupid and he will pay for it, but he doesnt need some hypocrits here tellin what he does and doesnt deserve.

Homebush bay road is like M5 highway, its long and wide especially at nite, there is no chance a person or animal or WHATEVA will jump in front of you, and i know this coz i drive past there everyday to uni. I got done for doing 130 but i wasnt even constantly going 130, i just pressed the accelerater a bit too hard n it hit 130 and i quickly started to slow down, but it was already too late.

I deserve what i got, and so does this bloke, but all u pplz dissin this bloke, no one cares what you think, so pisssssssssss offf?

I think the main problem here is people are trying to JUSTIFY why they were even doing what they were doing in the first place. Saying stuff like "I wasn't even doing it for that long", or "there was no one around and I thought it was safe". I can TOTALLY understand people getting pissed off at comments like that because all the person is doing is trying to make it look like they weren't doing something as wrong as they were.

I'm sure you understand that there is NO justification for actions like that.

And I think this is what's annoying people.

Me personally I think it's good everyone can admit that they were wrong and that they were doing something stupid (hell I got caught doing the same speed, just on a different road).

Now all of you speed hounds join Team Trackday by coming out to the track  hehe

I deserve what i got, ?

Damn right you deserved it. Just hit the acceleratOr a bit too hard and went 60kmh over the limit? One wonders what brand of cereal you procured your license from.

At least you were man enough to cop it, not like the wankers who crawl on here asking how to get out of doing some ridiculous speed....

Boy hurt in 161km/h crash, court told

By Stephen Moynihan

September 24, 2004

A seven-year-old boy was thrown 15 metres from a car driven by his mother's boyfriend after the vehicle crashed at 161 kilometres an hour, a court was told yesterday.

Abdullah Al-Hasan was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Mohammed Ibrahim Hagras. Hagras lost control of the car while driving on the Hume Freeway near Wodonga on Easter Sunday.

Senior Constable Denise Mears of the major collision unit told the Melbourne Magistrates Court that the boy suffered severe brain injuries as a result of the accident.

It is alleged that Hagras was driving at more than 50 kilometres above the 100 km/h limit and was overtaking other cars when he lost control of the Nissan Skyline.

Senior Constable Mears said the car was fitted with retread tyres, parts of which came off the wheel before the vehicle flipped over.

A police officer who fined Hagras for speeding two days before the accident told him he should "look at getting some new tyres". Retread tyres are illegal in Victoria but not in NSW.

The boy's mother, Sumayyah Al-Hasan - who Hagras allegedly told police was driving the car - sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Senior constable Mears said Hagras denied he was driving at a high speed and said he heard noises coming from the back of the car before the crash.

After the accident, Hagras, of Wiley Park, in Sydney, was granted bail and ordered not to drive, but Senior Constable Mears said NSW police told her they had seen Hagras driving. His bail was then revoked.

Yesterday Hagras, 30, made a new application for bail on charges of reckless conduct endangering life and negligently causing serious injury.

Prosecutor Lisa Mendicino said bail was opposed because Hagras was a danger of reoffending and had been in contact with Ms Al-Hasan, a prosecution witness.

Defence lawyer Ashley Halphen said Hagras was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the alleged accident. Mr Halphen said his client had been in custody for two months and would get a job if released.

Magistrate Phillip Goldberg is expected to give his decision on the application on Tuesday.

I don't think anyone is trying to justify their speeding... they have all stated how stupid they feel at what they have done! and i repeat - it doesn't take much in a 'line to go over the speed limit...

I don't think jnr is trying to get out of anything.. he just wants to know what to expect! and what is wrong with trying to get a less sentance or cheaper fine? not everyone has money to trow around... and you already know you have made a mistake... you don't need to be bankrupted because of it!

whats team trackday?

If he has accepted that he has done something wrong , then he can expect to pay for it, what is the point of trying to get a less sentence, if you are that far over the speed limit , you are stuck with what you get. Maybe this is a defeatist attitude but seriously , it is a bit to far over the speed limit

    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back.
