Sandown Driver Training - 17th October.

Recommended Posts

Yes, "registerable" is OK. The main problem at Sandown is noise upsetting the locals, so as long as the car meets noise restrictions (75dB(A) at 30 metres drive-by), then it will likely be OK.

So it looks like were all racing (even though it's a track day) I can't wait. All I have done in my car so far is drive it around the block a few times. Need two things at the moment to make me happy as Larry... and none of them involve a woman... sad when you get you get life’s priorities in order!

PS: I just got my GTR... I hope it will wear off soon

Have you run ur car on the dyno as yet to check everything and see what power it is making?

Out of interest who says what is too fast on the day. Obviously if your spinning and heading for the dirt then thats too far, but if you are keeping it on the black stuff?

I'm guessing what you're asking is what is the definition of "5.7 Vehicles are to be kept to less han competition speed." I think the officials (clerk of course, flag marshalls) will have a word to you if you are seen to be driving beyond your limits, or endangering other drivers.

One rule that's stated clearly is "NO OVERTAKING WILL BE PERMITTED IN CORNERS AT ANY TIME". Laps aren't being timed anyway... but doesn't mean u cant bring your own stop watch :) or if you wanna go Hi-tech, use an infrared lap-timer :(

I'm excited. :D

Not yet. I was planing on getting a tune done last Thursady but that turned to shit like every other plan I had for the car so far. It's just has a standard CAT put in and will probably only do a tune after I swap for a high flow or "so called" high flow.

No Idea at all but would like to think around the 280 - 300rwkw mark???

Thats all good and well, but does that mean if you have a GT3 Porsche you wont be allowed to go any quicker then 1:35s on the day...or as long as you are keeping the thing straight you will be right to punch out 1:25s:confused:

Short answer: I dont know :(

Try ringing NDSOC... ask for clarification. I'm sure they will run through everything in the compulsory driver briefing anyway.

Hope it's not wet on the day as I found out my Simex tyres are totally shit useless in the wet. Can't even get traction at 30-40k/h... found out embarrasingly tonight... won't be appropriate for my gts-t oversteering left and right on the track... especially when this is suppose to be a track training day, not a drift training day.

this is suppose to be a track training day

Exactly.... no one will be pushing you to go hard. It's not about how fast you can go, but more about driving techinques on the track, learning how to take the best line through corners, and getting a feel for being on the track. You will be fine.

:)

I expect it will be a totally subjective decision of the Clerk of Course &/or Stewards. Basically, if you are acting like a tool, then you will be spoken to. If you don't heed that warning, you will be asked to pack up and take your attitude somewhere else.

There's nothing to stop people going 'fast', but there will be a lot of cars running at different speeds on the track at the same time, plus drivers with vastly differing experience and it really is a question of common sense. After all it's meant to be a driver training day as well as a fun day and not getting into 'serious' racing/practice.

I can guarantee you, you will get HEAPS of track time.

At the Maseratti day, you might get 12 laps for your $125. At this day, you will get that many laps in your first session! And for only $85. And you get instruction thrown in.

So come on down, you can simply roll up on Sunday morning and enter then.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
