Busted Sump

Started to drain the oil in my car today, and turns out my sump has a massive ding in it.

i'm guessing this will effect my oil pressure readings.

but i just want to know exactly how bad this is?

anyone else have this problem and should i replace the casing?

depending on how bad it is, it may be able to be knocked back out.

Just an excuse to take it out and fit a gated / winged sump...well thats what id do...replace what goes :)

Dents can kill your motor if it get oil starvation i belive....

Winged/Gated sump is where the sump has one or two flaps which act as trapdoors to prevent oil starvation by the oil pump. Usually fitted by drifters and racers because the violent movement of the oil whilst racing adversely hinders oil pickup.

If you have a RWD GTST then id stick with using the std sump, unless fo course you have spare cash tehn sure go ahead but i think there are other areas of the std RB engine that need help before the sump. LOL, also keep in mind that with a bigger sump a simple thing liek your regular oil change may add up to $100+ due to the capacity increase:(

I started to un do all those tiny nuts on the sump today to pull the sump out so i can bang it flat.. however i have no idea how to get the sump out it seems to be one piece that connects all the way to the gearbox. does anyone know how to get it out?

I might be wrong...so call me stupid :)......

I think the engine has to come up or out to take it off...the oil pickup sits into the pan a bit though a hole into the bottom...

Bit of one of those jobs that are a pain in the butt.....like every god damn thing else that needs fixin :bahaha:

Im not sure on the GTS models but on the GTR it can be done without removing the engine, however at the end of the day it will cost you around the same in labour. Involves pulling the gearbox off, removing the front cross member while holding the engine in place with an engine stand, quite alot of work.

nar u shuldnt hav 2 take the motor out, easier 4 gtr coz frnt diff goes thru the sump.

dnt quote me, but the last time i checkd, u jus take out all lil sump bolts (10mm) n the 2 reinforcing mounts on eithr side 2 bolts on box n 2 on motor eithr side (12/14mm soz cant membr), n the gbox cover plate to make it easier 2 get 2 bak bolts, may need screwdriver 2 break seal ov factory glue (dnt scrap hole in sump/block) n then a bit ov manouvoring around the oil pick up inside n the cross membr underneith n then wolah! off.. but youl proly find u might not b able 2 get 2 the dent, proly hav baffles in ther, but cant hurt lookn. GOOD LUCK.

Ok, Ill take a shot at it tomorrow - Just a warning that I have no idea what i'm doing..

- Take out All the 10mm Sump Bolts

- Take out 2 Reinforcement Bolts (Located at the front?

- Take out 2 bolts on box (Where ever these are?)

- Take out 2 Bolts on motor either side (12/14mm) (Again, whereever these are?),

- Take off Gearbox Cover Plate

- Take out Back two bolts

Think thats what you were trying to say in your instructions :)

    • Me too. Apparently the new version of Invision will allow some customisation so look forward to a 'Love' reaction and a new 'Like' icon.
    • Which injectors are you using? It's likely the fuelling is off also, so as above.
    • Awesome to know. I have a Series 1, and When pulling my front bumper off for the first time i realised my reo/crash bar was a bit worse for wear, and was going to try pick up a better one soon just so i can replace it. Someone is selling a full series 2 front bar and brackets for a decent price, so was going to probably reuse my brackets and install the new second hand reo/crash bar. I also have a genuine Altia body kit to do up, spray and put on, and not sure if that will use the series 1 or series 2 brackets for the front bumper, so having both will be handy, and knowing i can drill holes out to make stuff fit between series is also handy to know!
    • I should also say that the while they are different the only parts that matter are the center headlight supports and center bar from S1 to S2. The center bar will work, but the S1 has holes that clips go through into the S1 bumper. So if you were super cheap you could simply drill the S2 bar. Same thing with the side/wings. They have slightly different 'clips' but can be made to work. The center headlight brackets however, cannot. This is also where the GTR differs, which has a different center bar, and different headlight supports (to either GTT system), it also has different 'wing' headlight supports which is what I am calling under the headlight. However those CAN be made to work with the GTT Reo for a GTR front bar by a small spacer and a drill/tapping a thread into the reo because the bolt positions are slightly different. So people only really need the center brackets to go between GTT S1, GTT S2, and GTR if you are happy to do some tinkering.
