BMW are more drivers car. But i'm the same, except i haven't owned any :D Just been brought up around them (dad's cars) 320i, 528i now 530i. Trying to talk him into a E46 M3, he's due to change soon :)

If i JUST wanted to cruise, i MIGHT think about Benz for half a second :D Altho i'm not totally digging the new BMW style, and Mercs i must say, some looke better than their respective BMW models. S over 7, E over 5. But i like the 3 and Z4 over the C and Kompressor. IMO

Anyways, to Simon, how u gone about looking for a R34? Looking locally or you going to go the whole import thing?

cheers.

Aaaaahh Daniel... I'm guessing you're sicilian or calabrese "That hard head of yours :D".. always a BMW man. You think benz are just cruisers ha, let me know what you think of this "upcoming" cruiser from mercedes??

PS: We've got number 1 on order for the AMG version (hopefully 65 not 55) don't bother ordering VIC plates, we have them all CLS.1 + CLS.55 + CLS.65

Did somebody say "old mans car"? My GrandFather wouldn't drive that merc *from post #1 *, he's too young for that..... The Gentlemens Agreements states you're actually not allowed to drive that car unless you're 80 or older & on you're 3rd artificial heart...:looney:

How about CLSAMG? :)

Don't get me wrong - I'd love pretty much all the high performance German cars, but there's something I just love about turbos - and Mercedes can't offer that to me.

Porsche and Audi on the other hand...

Mercedes has a turbo soulution for you..

how about a current SL65 AMG, its a 6 litre twin turbo v12, with 1000nm of torque, and i forget (about450?) kw...

auto only, but im sure its quick enough, and turbo :)

get the gs300! not bad eh..

The 600s (eg SL600, CL600) are also twin turbo. But the 600s are only 5.5 litre with about 500hp and 800nm torque.

a Merc is definitely not old man's car...not unless its an old rust bucket merc...it's a rich bastard's [old or young] car...Just saw a L plater driving a CLK320 (convertible) zoom past couple hrs ago.

If i am one of them rich bastards I'd have more than one AMG Merc.

umm isnt an m3 only 160k?

not really 200k+

and datsss bloody nice........

ummmmmmmm SL55 *drooolz*.........why get a low model of merc when you can get the highest/top model of jap import in an R34 GTR. ITs like a boxter vs r34gtr...there isnt a choice at all....r34 gtr all the way.....but a porshe carerra GT3...now dats a different story......

the M3 is question is the CSL which is over 200K and as far as i know there arent anymore thats you can buy new.

im a skyline owner and a very happy one at that but nissan compared to mercedes benz???

sorry guys but im going the merc

but then again ill always go euro over jap

Personal preference, its something we all have. But if I have $200,000 to spend on a car. I can buy

A: Some Real nice luxury reasonably quick Merc

or

B: A r34 GTR with about $100,000 worth of mods to it....

I think i'll be taking the 10 second car! I'd love a faster car over a more luxury car. The skylines give ya what ya need anyway in regards of power steering, windows, climate control, stuff like that. Guess i just like a car that feels like a non-stop roller coaster :P

yea thats fair enough and a 10 second R34 is very tempting but a benz has been my dream since i was a little kid.

hopefully my 32 will run 10s once its all back together so now all i need is the benz ive always wanted and my car collection is finished :P

How about CLSAMG? :P

Ok Ronin.. maybe most of them except that one.. Initially the car was expected to be called a CLE so we ordered a set of those plates aswell, I think vicroads are having a ball with half the plates we've ordered over the years... this tuesday we're going to the launch of the new 911 at porsche Melbourne, who knows we might have a skitzo attack and consider a 911 instead :slap:

Starts chant... GT3! GT3! GT3!

I believe they have a red GT3 available for immediate delivery, possibly a black one with roll cage (though I think it has been sold) ;)

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
