with the BC kit i've noticed there are 2 types

- BR type RS series....................... more expensive

- V1 design VS series................... less expensive

whats the better one to get???

BR's are what I have, very happy with them. Iain has the same.

Not sure if one is "better" than the other; I'd be willing to bet the damper cartridge is the same, just prettier collars on the BR's.

what pic?

the ones on the justjap site dont look anything like the M35 ones. for a start, the rear of our car isnt a 'coil-over' type setup

yeh i just realised that again.

but if you compare them with the VS models the tops are different, so a wrong assumption by me.

looks like im just gonna get the VS's...

You don't try hard enough Iain! :nyaanyaa:

n00b question, but are there adjustable wishbones available?

Yes, but I doubt you'll need them. Camber is pretty good when you lower. I'd use offset bushes in the std arms, that way you still keep your ride quality.

Hey guys, Just into the coilover swap now.......S1 1997 RS4.

Couple of small questions, What's the difference between 34GTST and 33GTR front coilovers?

I know the spring rates are different as mentioned in this thread, but are the physical dimensions similiar?

And will a standard Stagea rear strut hat fit an a/m S14 rear coilover?

Thanks + Cheers :)

well 34 GTT (or 33GTST?) are rear wheel drive so id say different to your RS4 stagea. R33GTR physically fit. the s14 would physically fit an auto RS4 but top hats/mounts will need to be modified due to being too wide IMO. dampeners will be adjustable so you might get past the different valving in the shocks

if your buying coilovers why not just buy stagea specific coilovers?

Hey after searching and searching this thread and others, I'm still trying to find a definite coilover setup that will fit my rs4s I was looking at bc coilovers but I'm not sure now which ones I'll need Im pretty sure r33 gtr will go straight in but the valving is wrong will this make a huge difference if both the spring rate and damping is increased

Is your RS4 manual? AFAIK the manual's have the same shock bottom on the rear as a GTR (Fork-type), whereas Autos have GTST type shock mount (eyelet-type). My understanding of this thread is that R33 GTR front will be fine, but both R33 rears have wrong valving. Justjap list them specific for a Stagea with both Eyelet and Fork type rears.

Pretty easy to tell what you need if you poke your head under the back of the car and take a look at the bottom of the shock.

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
