Steve, can you explain how you get that power out of the std injectors? Sure your cars do make nice numbers, one of your GTRs ran a 10....thats great:)

But, you havent explained how you make that power out of the injectors, if i could be stuffed id crunch the numbers based on a few assumptions, approx cfm for that power, drivetrane losses and 11:1 A/Fs. The numbers i suspect would point to funny dyno reading. But hey as lonce as all cars ran on the same dyno its still a great result:)

Surely the std injectors have a limit, where do you see this limit. 415hp @16psi in Shootout?

I dont trust Auto salon figures, hell i dont trust dyno figures full stop.

This is not an accusation? Its a question.:P

I recall you mentioning that the air temp correction probe location isnt really a source for variation in readings...did you ever independantly test that with a glass of coffee? :D

Im only curious as my car read a bit lower then i would have thought, and whilst im happy with it, its hard for me to compare my RB20 to other cars as i cant trust the dyno results, id hate to throw someone elses 230rwkw HKS 2530 on my car only to find it is slower and the difference was in dynos not turbo performance:(

Fuel system, 910 in tank pump to 1.4l surge tank to 044 through fuel to rail sard adustable reg, 10.5AFR.

Fuel economy before the tune (414rwhp) was 380Km to 60L so 15.78L/100Km, that week i did 2 dyno comps and raced at the drags, (second time at the drags so yes the times are very poor). i need practice. lots.

Steve when can we back the whale up on the dyno? so i can post the graph.

P.S. I will put in a few hundred with you steve if we are proven wrong on the dyno.

Again thanks for the congrats, please as we are lets keep this going in a positive direction.

Nothing is proven on the dyno.

The only problem we have had with our RB25s to date is we bent the GTR rods in GTS-tvspecs motor trying to see how far we realy could go.

Please someone come over and try our cars on any dyno.

And im not being picky, dont profess to have all the answers, hell id be happy if i understood the question...but:)

Your saying every RB25 you have tuned is alive and well? If an engine lets go its not always the tuners fault, often its the drivers. Wasnt Rob77 one of your cars with the Trust TD06 setup? It killed a piston didnt it? Not saying its your fault...far from it, but you cant expect us to believe that every RB25 that has come thru your doors (irrespective of mods) is a live and well and only GTS-tvspecs motor bending a rod

Hi guys, I don't know how to say this without sounding antagonistic, but I will try.

If I remember rightly ND4SPD has more power on the dyno than Theo's GTR and it ran a 9, in fact lots and lots of 9's on Federal radials. But it was a different dyno, maybe that's the answer.:P

Well I did try, I promise I did:angel:

pppfffffftttt.........its only a dyno reading! :P

Those WA Dyno's are like used car sales men in my opinion, the figures they produce are usually way too hi :bahaha:

Seriously though, thats impressive power out if stock injectors

Steve-SST, I would like to ask you a question in regards to the injectors running almost double the base fuel pressure - would you do it on your car, if you where to build up a RB25? I would hate to see the demise of that guys car due to the failure of a $150 part

What casued the bent rod in GTSt-Vspec's car? was that due to the injector not being able to close and hydraulic'ing the motor?

I think the majority of people are like me and just want to know 'how' such huge power is made from a 370cc injector, not trying to have a go if it seems that way, just curious

Also, whats the limit you have reached with stock RB20 injectors?

Chris

nd4spd ran 142mph in street trim that aint low.Rob77 had stock pistons.

As for Sean(lagwagon) he cant afford a nice car so he bags everyone that can .

SST is a workshop and as such will not tell any of our secrets but wiil make the cars avalable to any East coast shop thats in town.Magic1 is driving his car around for work as was on sat.

If others cant match this power then try harder.

Magic1 wanted as close to 500 as pos for PAS so we should be pleased he got what he wanted.

Answers.

RB20LAGWAGON. Realy?

Roy. Ask paul.

cant answer you on the other cars, i dont know.

Sydneykid. Dyno Dynamics would remove their software from any approved shop if the dyno was not reading correctly on spot inspections.

Chris32. I will be getting a power run done tonight as i have booked the car in, i will post the dyno tonight, yes in shoot out mode. i will not touch any tuning settings before hand. See above for pauls car.

Cameron. Tonight i will post the graph

Thats fair enough about intellectial property and all that...but there may also be an element of busniess you are losing as they like to understand the mods ebign applied to their cars.

Out of interest, what is the limit you see for injectors on an RB25 usign your dyno as a measuer? And if you had an engine with fresh bearing and forged pistons that was going to make 450hp, woudl you stick with std injectors?

Ill shut up now, congrats on the results...need to get the SAU-WA boys to start taking their cars to the circuit...HPI feature should be on track Skylines not Drag Queens :P

Will be very interesting to have a look at thats for sure

Whatever you guys are doing to get that sort of power, keep it up!

Did GTSt-Vspec's car bend a rod due to injector failure? I cant see anything anywhere that mentions this is correct/incorrect

Chris

Roy

thank you for your comments, i fully understand how the computer works, steve has explained it to me, but its not my knowlage to pass on.

It is my decsion to stay with the standard injectors, and if the motor fails because of this i will take responsibility for this, $20 it dont. anyone ?

Regards

Tristan

We have cars that have won championships there and in WARC and speed events and at the motorplex plus won things like classic rallys etc.sone to see if we got 1st or 2nd in sport sedan championship this season and the saloon cars we do won near every race this year and set both track lap records at barbagallo and a few over east this season also, inc oran park were kerry won every race from pole.

SST has been around since the 80s .

After recieving a kinda nasty threat in pm regarding wolf and its batch firing injectors Im eager to here from steve exactly how you are getting such output from such small squirters.

Don't get all angry and start with your personal attacks Id just like to hear the facts from a wolf expert, (which I and probably most people consider you to be the top wolf tuner over here) without any ommisions on how its done.

If this means you want to, "if u keep it up i will post a full text on injection that will make u look silly" then Im willing to take the humbling in order to get the learning all the best lessons are taught like that, I dont have a ego that cant take a lil damage and being tutored in efi seems like a positive thing. If you can stick to Tristins 33 as the example we should be able to stay true to the topic

Cheers

IIRC Paul's motor was winning dyno comps and had incredible amounts of power on standard injectors. Again, everyone called b.s. on it, and pretty soon the motor carked... then it reappeared with GT-R injectors. So why the upsize on the injectors? Since the motor was "unbreakable" and utterly "reliable" on standard injectors with "loads to spare" why put in larger injectors? Why did the motor fail in the 1st place (no not the bent rod failure, the previous one I think it was a ring land)?

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
