someonestolecc
Thanks for the support guys. *spanks Duncan* cept for your ya wally nah jokes I've been trying to get my hands on a trailer so I can whip around a track with it in the meantime. Trailer is low cost activity and the tyres aren't rego-able so I figure I might make some use of them Anyone know if I can go on the track without rego ok? Duncan
yeah no rego and track = no problems, although the scruitineers may give you more greif. I think the EC/ARDC track days would require a log book if no rego but everyone else is OK. Trailer = not so cheap, $2k up, or you can use ours for $50 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ghlight=trailer Of course it is busy for most SAU events but if it some other time you should be OK Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55349-wohoo-my-car-didnt-blow-up/page/8/#findComment-1224803 Share on other sites

someonestolecc
haha fatz - now you know why I didn't make your track day I was testing my half working jaycar IEBC today and lost 3rd gear also. Lol locked out of 3rd and 4th. Funny stuff... So I took the clutch out, got angry and tried to shove it into 3rd and heard a clunk, then it went in But now they're both squishy lol Hopefully get engineering, blue and pink slips in april along with a new box. floody
someonestolecc, may be the clutch, may not.... My R31 developed some masty selector problems and I started losing gears one by one - 5th, then 4th and 3rd - basically felt like it locked out of them, to begin with they felt kind of "non-positive" when you put them in, like they were stiff and you didn't really feel a click. Took a lot of effort to select and deselect gears. Also the lever wouldn't return past the neutral next to them, as in sideways- it would sit in the neutral between 1-2. I got it to loosen up and kept having issues with top jumping out, then that seemed to clear up.... Finally I reversed into a car park and it jammed into reverse/neutral space above it, and refused to go up/sideways to select the other gears. I had to drive about 3kms in reverse to get home.... It stayed like that for 2 months then one day I was sitting in the car cursing its capricious nature when I punched the lever and it loosened up, lol... Now it works ok, but when its cold sounds like something is being spat around inside the box, like a loose chunk of something. Nasty. someonestolecc
Yeah that sounds about right actually!! non-positive I call that squishy!! it started with 4th, now it's spread to 3rd but 3rd is intermittant squishyness. Last night it wouldn't go sideways in neutral as I usually just wiggle it side ways when I get home as habit to feel if it's in neutral. Also it gets stuck in gear but it's all intermittant - haven't had it jump out of gear yet but 4th can be easily taken out of gear without clutch (at any revs). Mechanic said sounded hydraulic but he'll have to drive it to check - obviously over the phone ain't the same but I'll keep this thread posted incase anyone else got the same issues. Cheers for the response - out of interest what do you think your problem is caused by ? And have you drained your oil and checked the plug to see if anything in there has shredded/let go? I don't wanna drop my oil just yet because I changed it in the last 1000km heh ... my car gets hardly any mileage now : Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55349-wohoo-my-car-didnt-blow-up/page/8/#findComment-1242532 Share on other sites
lwells
my car gets hardly any mileage now : I'm suprised your car even goes given your problems. Keep soldiering, your due for a break in your bad luck soon (as opposed to a break in your car!). LW. someonestolecc
Thanks mate - I'm planning a celebratory cruise next month when my car is scheduled (ie when get my company bonus) to be engineered and rego'ed.. so you'll have to come along If the bonus is big enough I might put in an organic/brass button clutch and get a new or recon gearbox but even without those things I'll be cruising as soon as it's legal (even if I don't have 3rd and 4th gear). floody
Ahh I reckon mine is selectors wearing out/breaking. But yeah, all of your symptoms sound familiar. Couldn't be bothered checking it though, then I crashed it, so I haven't checked. Brass button clutch = bad idea. You are not meant to slip the clutch with a BB, which means they are next to unstreetable IMHO and only really good on a track (be that racing or drag). Given you drive your car on the street -- and if I remember correctly, want to do a little bit of dori dori -- you want something you can slip. LW. someonestolecc
That's exactly what I was thinking but I've never used a BB clutch. I might search up what people are using for around 200rwkw + track abuse. My mates 'organic' the local place put in for his r32 feels nice, the friction point/pickup feels like it's about 4-5mm without being too hardcore. But what the hell is an organic? too_much_boost
I have BB clutches in both my cars. I reckon they aren't too bad for street. I haven't had a car with an organic clutch for probably 5 years though so maybe I'm just tough ... Organic generally means not brass or ceramic - The stuff that stock clutch plates are made from. MYS013
I agree! BB clutches arent that bad at all! I learnt to drive a manual with a BB clutch.
