Hi Guys

I recently got my L’s and a job, so I am saving for my first car (for my P’s). The deal I made with my mum is, what ever I save – she will give me the same amount (so if I save $5,000 she will give me $5,000 her self).

My plan is to purchase a R32 GTS4 as soon as possible with my mums plan. I then would like to purchase a RB26 and do an engine swap (even if I have to take a loan to get the RB26) and then sell the GTS4 engine and put every cent back to the loan. I then would like to do a few simple modifications to the RB26 until I get 320Hp. I know what most of you guys are probably thinking right now… great an un-experienced driver with a RB26, but hey, I could ‘just as easily’ get the GTS4 to 320Hp anyway.

I would most likely keep the RB26 powered GTS4 until I get off my P’s, I would then like to purchase a R33 GTS25t, take the RB25 put it in the R32, take the RB26 from the R32 and drop it into the R33. Sell the RB25 powered R32 and with the money,

1. Pay back the loan for the R33 (if I even did take one)

2. Get the RB26 up in power.

What do you guys think about my plan?

i've always hated the idea of rb26 gts4. i'd rather a real gtr

your plan will change many times... just watch

Yeah i rather have a real GTR to, but simply i cant afford one.

...btw it wont be me changing many times, as this plan of a RB26 GTS4 has allready been done.

Whats your problem?

id say he doesnt have a problem, just that you have big plans!

dont get me wrong its good to see man.if you dont set yourself goals you will never achieve them

having said that you are only young and (no offence)inexperienced on the roads.

if i were you id be looking at getting a run around car to gain crucial experience in before stepping into any high powered car.

this will also enable you to take your time with your project

good luck man

ps if your mum will match you $ for $ in a performance build shes the coolest mum ever!

dude you wont be able to aford it. their is no offence meant but unless you are pulling in some big $$$ you are not even going to come close to it thats why you got laughed out loud at. You say you want 320hp is that for a particular reason ??? not sure what gts4's go for these days i guess around $14,000 - 16000 k ??? then a gtr engine another $6 - 8,000 + engine conversion another couple of grand etc etc you see my point their is no way in hell you will be able to aford it. just get a S13 for the time learn to drive it then get a skyline. as i said not trying to offend you but get a cheaper car to run till you get a full time job that pays a decent $$$ i may be wrong but i am guessing you are working only casual too or full time at macca's ???

Grab yourself a GTS4, and drive the wheels off the thing. Instead of spendign thousands on an RB26 transplant, enjoy owning a GTS4 by beign able to afford to drive it everywhere and anywhere including the track, and have enough money left over to hopefully enjoy being 18-21.

Id hate to think how many weekends i would have had to stay home if i owned my r32 when 18:( Cars are cool, but living up the best years are more important. If you havethe funds to do it all then mroe power to you:thumbsup:

Whats your problem?

yeah i dont have a problem man.. just found it it amusing how in depth you plans went..

there is a very good chance your plans will change, like many other including myself i have plans that change often...

for example the gtr im importing.. i still dont know if i will be keeping or selling it.. but i always have certain plans in the back of my head on what i would like to do.

also i think you should get use to driving a car period, rather then driving an rb26dett around! i wouldnt want an inexperienced 17 year old driving around my area in a car with 320HP...

but looks like the plans a solid one and you've thought about it alot.

Humm... Ok

Sorry druzilla32... i understand.

"just get a S13 for the time learn to drive it then get a skyline."

"not sure what gts4's go for these days i guess around $14,000 - 16000 k ???"

14-16k... that means i need to save 7-8k in two years, i have $2,000 in the bank now (Which technically is $4,000, how much are S13’s going for these days?) so i believe i could do that no prob.

Ok if you guys believe I won’t be able to afford it that bad... should I get a S13 or a R32 GTS4 and don’t do the swap?

Either way, one day after my P's I would like to own a RB26 GTS25t or a GTR-33.

Thanks for the Advice alot so far guys.

you'll be spending more on engine swaps and all the shit associated with them than its worth. by the time you can afford all that you could get a 32gtr, then sell that and save and get a 33gtr. so buy the time you start this process you will be experienced by driving an excel for many years.

I think thats its good that your planning, as i've had plans for a while to always own my 'dream first car' an r33, and i worked and worked, and with the help of my parents too, i now own a 1995 R33 gts. If you want it that bad you will get it, though you really should be concentrating on getting the car first man, then doing your plans, they have plenty of power for a learner, and its good to learn to get to kno the road first before you make any sort of increase in power. Anyways, with the rate the restrictions are going these days on P platers, doesnt matter if you want it or not, you simply cannot cause its illigal. Good luck anyway.

May i ask just how much your parents helped you with? Because your my age and allready have an R33.

Ok good plan on paper, im not sure if it will work out, as u need to look at another factors.

1.Insurance

2. Running cost of an rb26

3. Normal running cost fuel, services etc etc

Also, getting a loan i dont think is the best idea. Im basing this apond the fact that u will have to pay off the loan and then save for insurance, fuel and then all the random bs (going out, drinks, partys, girls etc etc)

Also, dropping an rb26 into an gts-t r33, i heard isnt the easys job (something about the floor plan needing to be change or something)

Also with power comes BS stuff, like u want 320hp (which i think is way too much currently i got about 200/215rwhp in an r33 and that is crazy enough for me maybe 250-270 would be good) u up the boost something goes wrong and u blow the piston ur car is out of action untill u can save for the rebuild etc etc.

Maybe just buy the gts4 and just say with that add a fmic, ecu, exhuast, air filter (all the basic mods) and u will have enough power, and in the future when u have the money then look at doing the rb26 swap (remember ur swaping an engine the cost for the engine is around 6k + u have to add labour and all the other bs)

just my 2cents, keep saving, keep looking and i bet u will find something good enough

Sorry, but haven't you been watching the news recently? Young inexperienced drivers getting in hi-powered cars and wiping out themselves and, unfortunately, other innocent people. And don't give us the "But it won't happen to me. I'll behave myself" crap. We all know you won't - we certainly didn't behave ourselves at one time or another. It happened to those people in the news recently; it can happen to you.

Get a dunger, get some proper experience behind the wheel - join a car club and go onto a race track.

Only then should you get behind the wheel of a beast similar to what you are proposing.

Please take the advice of someone older and wiser. I, for one, certainly don't want to be hearing a news bulletin describing your demise at the wheel of a powerful and unforgiving car.

A Skyline at that...

Tourquenstein, seriously, if you want a Nissan, go for an NA 1.8 Silvia for the 1st 4 years... learn how that car handles on the TRACK, then move up to a Skyline... it might just save your life.

You dont need a na or anything, a turbo car is perfect to start on as long as you are sensible. Its your foot that controlls the ride not the car. Having said that i think it is a waste of money doing the swap, in the long run you will save by either buying a r32gtr or r33 gtst. It is the best option by far, mixing and matching engines etc, you will have headaches and hassles tghe whole way

ohh and a type about driving a car:

Have the right attitude, as blind has memtion there has been some crashes latly on the new which have kill the driver and other people too. PLz if ur going to drive a skyline have the right attitude dont show off, speed do stuipd stuff.

Learn to understand ur car 1st, my friend try to do some drift drift in his ford with a full car load and it ended badly. Im not saying the drifting was right but if he knew that the car would have had that much body roll, he wont on gas it where he did and it wouldnt have ended badly

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
