-Can't say I agree with the P - Plate ban, I believe all it will do is prolong the agony for 12 months, - they'll putt around in something slow for on their red's and then as soon as the year is up what do they do - go and buy a high performance car. The result will still be the same, Yes they may have a bit more driving experience but still haven't had the experience of driving a high performance car, and we all know the type of speeds a GTR is capable in a short distance. I believe the answer is in education and TRAINING, maybe some sort of a law whereby you have to complete advanced training/driving courses to drive a high powered car. - ie. maybe a stage one course lets you drive up to 180kw, stage two 200kw etc etc. I know this will vary with different cars, or it could be a power/weight ratio. (hope that all made sense!)

Reading about this accident made me feel crook, poor bike dude and poor car driver - even though he was apparantely being a ****head, he's pretty much f%%ed a fair bit of his life while out on a Saturday arvo, drive. God knows I'm sure this could habe happened to a fair % of us over the years.

Its sad isn't it. And maybe it reinforces the idea that registered car clubs are a safe way for enthusiasts to enjoy their cars.

As Nick said we were literally 5 min behind the accident on the Old Pac. But we were tootling along at the speed limit having a great day out. On the S15 cruise someone died.

The pressure is on formal clubs to do everything they can to make a safe driving environment, as club execs we cant afford to have something like that happen on an official cruise.

Make no mistake a knee jerk reaction will come. The Telegraph and its brainwashers will put public pressure on politicians until they have to act. The anti-car people have clowns like Harold Scruby working full time stirring up trouble. On the other hand car enthusiasts are own their own.....

The result won't be the same, they'll have a year's driving under their belt. I don't think that anyone should be allowed to jump into a powerful car with little or no driving experience, it's like going to a ski slope for the first time ever and trying one of the 'pro only' courses. While it's also true that there are a few people out there with the maturity to drive a fast car to their own limits, the sad fact is that most road laws are put in place to protect the majority, and much of that majority are idiots.

I have read all the threads from people who were at the accident and it looks like it was an "accident" caused by a biker close to the center line leaning into the corner and being clipped by a car close to the center line going in the other direction.

Apparently the rider was in shorts and a T shirt and also did not have his helmet properly buckled. It is sad for his family that he was killed, but he should hae been wearing his protective gear, as apparently it might have saved his life.

I totally agree, I am going to start sounding like a broken record but you have to question whether introducing all these restrictions just pushes the problem from occuring when drivers are on their P-plates, to when they become a full licence, but totally inexperienced driver. Hey, but then it's not a problem and the moral crusaders have won their war right?

I think the answer is to introduce driving training/ awareness at school. Get graphic- scare the shite out of kids by showing them the aftermarth of accidents, show them no one is immortal. Stress how important it is for them to behave responsibly on the roads.

Also focus on passengers, and educate them that they have as much responsibility as the driver- to either get drivers to stop driving like clowns, or get out of the car if they won't.

I was on my way to the SAU lunch at Gosford with a group that was turned around because of this accident. There is nothing worse than the feeling when you know the life of a fellow enthusiast has been lost (whatever the circumstances).

Let's hope the government takes a sensible, not knee jerk, approach to ensuring all drivers (of cars and motorbikes) are safe on the roads.

- Thanks for the backup Kel, I really believe the ban on P-Platers is a deadset kneejerk reaction by Carl Scully in the hope that the public will buy that the Government is trying to do something - All these meetings/discussions/enquires into road safety etc etc that they have been having recently and that is the best they can come up with? And these 'intelligent' people are running the country! Although they are going to have that trial on driver education etc - at least one small step in the right direction.

I cant believe what I just saw on TV. Claims of a potential ban on P-Platers drag racing full stop. This means they would not be allowed to race at WSID for example.

Way to go whoever came up with that moronic idea, lets take away the ability of P-Platers to race in a controlled and safe environment. If this was to happen, more and more people will resort to speeding/racing on public roads.

While I support a few of the ideas being thrown around in an attempt to kurb p-plate deaths, this new suggestion is complete and utter bull5hit.

i saw this in the news previews as well... i agree.. how stupid!! wsid might be the only place young kids can go for a speed hit... and now they are banning it? I agree with nick... kids will just take it to the streets... simple.

RIP to the bike rider :) they always cruise through old pac :D i wonder if the s15 was overtaking when the bike was coming in the opposite direction? poor s15 driver... to have to go through the rest of his life knowing he killed someone... i think i'd rather die than live with that guilt :(

EDIT: just read a previous post about how the accident may have occurred... looks like nothing could have been done to prevent it... but still.. the horror of the accident would be with you for a long time. :(

i think u guys should get your facts straight before u say anything.......u guys should be smarter then this, everyone knows that the media will write any bullshit to get a story, and driving like dickhead?????how would u know when u werent there????....it could of been any 1 that day only those at the site knows the truth....it was an accident that no 1 can prevent....just because it happen to be a P plate every1 has to make a big deal about it....

Sad to say, but there was another accident involving P plater and 2 skylines last night as well.

2 people died in that one :P

Banning P platers from powerful cars may not be the best solution, but id rather let them have 1 years experience in a crap car first before they jump into thier GTR or whatever. They may not learn much about driving, but you cant say that they wont be better off with 1 years experience under thier belt

      What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.

      Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.

      looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
