Gday Guys,

My Importer has suggested that I try to get my car on the ship now (it is loading) but I have not as yet even sent away the forms for import approval.

Has anyone done this?

He says worst case scenario it will sit on dock in aus until it's approved. And he says they HAVE to approve it since it is a 15 + y/o car.

Anyone KNOW (please don't guess...I need fact) if it is safe to do this?

On the import approval request form, at the bottom it states...

"If you have chosen to ship your vehicle before receiving an import approval, should your vehicle arrive before the application is processed, an approval cannot be issued"

That says to me, if it lands before we get approval, I wont EVER get the car?

The other option is I wait 1.5 months or however long the round trip is for the boat. (Kiwi)

Cheers

Chris

I think you have answered your own question from what you've read off the bottom of the form. Look to be honest this is not the place to ask this question. RING DOTARS and ask them for a 'proper' answer. Is your car a december build or January or what? Either way the only persons advice i'd trust on this point is the people enforcing the relevant legislation (in this case DOTARS - AVS).

Richard

mmmgtir is on the money, ring dotars.

*personally* ive seen many a car be loaded before its been approved and everything worked out OK.. but then again i've also heard they can roll your car off the back of the boat and into the sea if it cant be imported....? hopefully not true.

I did a import approval on a vehicle that turned up early and put current place of vehicle "Fremantle" I wont go into why we can do this as it is legend as much as rumour, but we dont normaly do it. DOTRS are help full if you dont just put it on and get the approval at a later date.

It cost's $18 to $20 a day in storage if you have delays in getting the import approval one guy had to pay $2,000 in fees.

Wait for the De Reg if it is 15 year old and a RAW should be able to do a import approval with out the De Reg.

I would wait. My company wouldnt actually load it without the approval anyway. The guy who was doing my clearing at this end said absolutely do not do it even if you have the option to as it the costs and hassle incurred at this end if it doesnt work out such as storage, maybe even disposal. Not worth the risk IMO.

My car went on the boat before I received import approval and that caused me some stress, believe me :), but it turned out allright in the end.

I doubt you'd be up for much more than extra storage costs.....this is a direct quote from VSB 10 "Importing Vehicles to Australia" on the DOTARS web site:

"An Import Approval must be obtained for a vehicle to gain clearance at its point of entry to Australia. Vehicles that arrive in Australia without an import approval will incur storage costs until an import approval is issued.

It is strongly recommended that you do not ship your vehicle to Australia until such time as you are issued with an Import Approval. If you do ship your vehicle before receiving an approval and your vehicle arrives before the application is processed, you will incur storage costs."

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
