Geez I cant stand IGNORANT old fu(kers who dont know what the fu(k they're talking about... this guy is a moron, scouring the news for the latest "hot topic" to talk about... it's not as if he has any real concerns for the number of accidents involving ALL car types over the holiday period... not only skylines. It's all about ratings and what topic will generate the most controversy.. pffft.

The shameful thing here is that so many of the general public are influenced by what they see, hear and read in the mainstream media - their beliefs are shaped by what they see in the media. The impact is police will target import cars, particularly skylines, just to be seen to be "doing something" about the so called problem - but the problem is NOT the cars, it lies within the maturity of the drivers. So we need driver education, not talk about Skylines being a death trap. Skylines are not a badly designed car, and they handle well in the hands of a responsible driver. Accidents will always happen, and can happen in any car.

I think it is poor form on behalf of the media to single out skylines as a car type being the danger here. Governments can crack down on the cars and impose restrictions etc. but they are not attacking the root of the problem, only taking the easy target by defecting cars, etc. which is a flawed approach that will never work.

/end rant.

ahahahahahaha this old man is on saying he just trading in his 20yo skyline

quote from him! he's a gun!

"Its not the power of the car, its the stupid people who can't drive them!"

guys

1. he gets paid to dribble shit, whether you believe it or not is up to you, but you are right, most of it is said to incite the village idiots.

2. people are stupid if you told them it was cool to jump of a cliff they would start jumping of it.

3. education is important to address the issue, but it is not the be all and end all solution.

4. cops should target skylines. why? most of them are deemed unroadworthy because people start to ILLEGALLY mod them and as such are a soft target for them.

5. natural selection. need i say more.

4. cops should target skylines. why? most of them are deemed unroadworthy because people start to ILLEGALLY mod them and as such are a soft target for them.

You are as ignorant of reality as is humanly possible.

um

Well I happen to agree with the comment.

When people do midifications to cars which affect the structural integrity and other safety features, I would consider that a problem.

Every week there are new threads where people complain about being defected for safety reasons.

I don't see a problem with defective vehicles being taken off the road.

Defect for BOV isn't unsafe in my eyes. Neither is having a ridiculously loud car (if I can live with harleys I can live with loud exhausts).

Having sick habibs in the car racing 100km/hr through the main drag of Chatswood (or insert any shopping mall mini-city place here) going accel, brake, accel brake is.

Same as crusty bogans cutting springs down for that sick autosalon look.

I think you guys are talking about two (in my mind) different sets of defects.

yeah nearly all defects are BS - you dont often see cops pulling up old shitboxes that are falling apart to get them off the road

i dont see why people should be defected because of a bov or intercooler or pod - pain in the ass regulations, i cant wait till everything is so tied down and regualted that we get to all wear the same cloths and if you have funky socks the fasion cops will defect those because they are not made from fire retardant thread.

i wouldnt agree.

from what i saw in WA while i was there, you can get a permit for any mod just about.

nothing like the crap we see here in Vic which is totally absurd.

How can a modification be legal in one state and illegal in another?

All cars are complied to ADR (OZ wide) design specifications when they come into the country but depending on what border you cross the rules change.

utter gov't rubbish

Nismoid i cant really agree with you on the leniency of WA's car modification regulations - true you can get permits for certain things like strut bars, one intake mod and so on, but its just like any other state in most other respects - atmo BOV - Yellow Sticker. too low - Yellow Sticker. Police officer doesnt like the look of your car - Yellow Sticker. They are as tyrannical here as anywhere else.

But i do agree that the rules have become rubbish - they started with the prefectly good intention of maintaining acceptable levels of safety in roadgoing vehicles, but have evolved into little more than a tool that can be used to take cars off the road that popular opinion dictates as 'unsafe' (read anything thats even remotely powerful or non-stock.)

damn it, got CUT OFF!!! that was me, DANIEL!

do you mean you got cut off cos neil or whatever didn't like the fact that you don't agree with him? or cut off because of bad reception or something?

People allways get hung up on 3AW. It's BS if you ask me, even if their argument is riduculous or irrational people still have a right to speak their opinion...

i was going at it with im, pretty much talking over him, and i could tell he was making more concessions than he really wanted to, and then i heard a click and i could tell i was off the air and he'd gone to the next guy. What happens is that you get the radio coming through on the phone, like 10-15 seconds ahead of the normal radio (for swearing etc) and you'll get a guy asking what you want to talk about... i just said that Skyline and their drivers were being mis-represented by the ppl who had already called in...

anyways spoke my mind, felt like i got some of my points across, needed more time tho... a little nervous too... never done anything like that before... for those that missed it, basically i said.

- stupid to jump the conclusion that Skyline's are 'death traps'

- said that Skyline's comparitively were safer cars than a Commodore of Falcon, said that if you compare the mentioned cars on the year they were made, Skylines had ABS, traction control, air bags, way before the local cars, not to mention better brakes and suspension.

- said that i'd feel a lot safer in a Skyline than a crappy little excel or lancer.

- also said that what was this magical thing that happens the day you get your full license that means you can drive a hi-po car? It's about education and that any nutter behind any car can speed, and have a bad crash.

it was bout the time i made my 'next day, full license' comment that he went back to his 'radio audience'

i hope i didn't sound like a complete fool. Anyone hear me on the radio?

cheers

holdens are death traps

Damn straight. I have two mates, one with a 400Hp 308 VL, the other with a stock GTS25t with an exhaust system. Guess who got the defect for ‘your fully sick ride is to loud mate’. Yep you guess it; most cops don’t give a **** how loud your car is, it’s the car all together they pick on you for. Jealous bastards.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
