I just plugged it in, pushed the kick panel back and drove it. No problems :-)

Most other PFC problems I have heard of are word of mouth (I know someone who tried it and ....) so I wonder if its just stories being told or if they did really try it.

Mine is in a series 1 R33, so it may be a model specific thing, I dont know for sure.

i love my auto .... seems to hold boost a lot better than a manual .... the only time i wish i had a manual is when cornering.

i like to drag - so it suits those purposes perfectly.

The power your car makes is only limited by your budget and imagination ..... not whether its auto or manual.

Have you compared the shift quality to a non PowerFC auto 33 before you had the shift kit?

Shift quality didnt change when I put the PFC in the car.

Originally my shifts were good (tight) compared to other autos I had driven (Holden, Ford, Chrysler) but after the shift kit its VERY tight. (ie it will chirp tyres between gear changes, which it would only do previously when I had crap tyres on the car) :wassup:

I'm just thinking out loud here so don't take offence but perhaps your car originally had a manual ECU, hence the reason you didn't notice a change in shift quality...

Every single test I've done on auto 33's with a replacement ECU has resulted in a change in shift quality...

Yeh same, its not just word of mouth, ive experienced it too. Wasnt TOO bad but it was enough.

why is yours different to everyone elses 4door?

the truth is all the gear logic and changing codes are gone, so something must have changed

what model of pfc have u got?

also did you take your car to MV with the pfc?

The PFC was in the car prior to going to MV automatics.

I have offered Sydney Kid a drive in my car next time he is in Adelaide (he didnt come to Mallalar last time) which may answer some of your questions and I believe others will value his comments and opinions.

Well firstly let me point out that i'm not taking sides here, i have owned both autos and manuals and both have their good points but i have to point out a lot of the complete crap that has been written here. It was mentioned briefly on the first page but wasn't brought up again.

I am assuming there are no engineers posting in this thread, because if there were they would tell you that some energy (and therefore power) is lost at EVERY linkage. Therefore seeing as the auto has more components and therefore more linkages it MUST make less power than a manual with similar mods.

There is no point arguing 'my auto skyline feels faster than my mates manual', you cannot argue with science. It has been proven over hundreds of years.

An auto skyline against a manual skyline with EXACTLY the same mods, the manual will win EVERY time, no arguments, assuming the manual driver can drive. Not wanting to open a can of worms, just pointing out some scientific facts. The reports i've seen estimate the drivetrain losses to be about 20-25% greater in an auto than a manual.

at least this argument had facts to support it, thanks xxxx for providing a logical point of view. however in defence of auto's (remember I do drive a manual and i do think they are more fun) every person I know who races cars in drags (seriously) be it skylines or v8's or whatever uses an auto (mostly 2 speed powerglides for v8's) now all these people (plus all the ones I don't know, but see on tv) can't be wrong. now before someone jumps down my throat and says it is not the same as a normal stock auto, no maybe not but it is still an auto. the best way to determine this is do what i said before race an auto and manual. if slide is still in and has mods like mine or rwKW close to mine then I am happy to try it.

how long can a drag modified gearbox last in a daily driver? come on, surely its been tuned specifically for drag use only, with increased ability to handle short busts at high power.

as for the torque converter giving you more power... here's a few things to consider...

an official Nissan statement about the R34 says:

Nissan's new "E-flow Torque Converter" that increases power transmission efficiency to nearly the ultimate limit has also been adopted to reconcile smooth, pleasing power delivery with improved fuel economy for greater environmental friendliness.

Now from that I'd conclude that the torque converter delivers "power transmission efficiency to nearly the ultimate limit", which is that of a manual. I mean what else can you compare it to?

also... impeller, stator, and turbine in a torque converter all have energy loss, so even though the torque is being multiplied, what is being expended?

I'll try and grab the Brochures for the R33 manuals and autos and compare their power charts. Might give a better idea stock for stock.

was hittin 187rwkw bfore and id say ive lost heaps of power

i were chirping 2nd sometimes 3rd most times but now doesnt at all

if you are going on the cruise on the 20th youll see it under good behavior

took it to an automatic fixer and he said i need an overhaul

like i said too much puttin in nuetral reving and dumping

if theres a track day coming up ill give you a drive if you want just dont crash it

is there anyone else on sau near you that u can take for a drive to get a 2nd opinion? cos i dont understand how yours can be any different to all the other people who have tried it

Who did you speak to about getting work done?

Best places ive found so far is Mark asnea at morningside and Athena Automatics at wakerly

Im going to call up MV AUTO in nsw because they are experts on skyline autos, and see what he thinks is the best way to do it; Most probably get them to send me out their shift kit etc and get somewhere here to fit it

Well my auto is about as worked as you can get. It is built to handle 800hp although i only have about half of that. It has a 4500 stall and is also daily driven. I have been driving it for two years now. The only thing that kills autos is heat. I find it easy to drive you just need to adjust your driving style, just like you would have to with a triple plate clutch. The only down side is that it uses more petrol than a manual.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
