I dont agree with what i did but i only speed to 175 to get away from this dickhead ina hilux that was sitting on my ass all the way done smith street and flashing me so i got to 175 and slowed right back down to 110 straight away it wasnt like i was doing it for 5 k or nothing. But there is no point mentioning that to the cops they will jsut sa 2 bad

Just saw this thing on a cop car... anyone know what it is? sorry for the crap quality... i took it with my phone...

You're lucky they didn't see you and pull you over for using your phone while driving!! :)

Its a GPS antenna.... Unlike Navman which has a antenna the size of a 50 cent piece the police need to save up to buy plates from PPQ.... Nah.... Its a very advanced antenna for GPS/Laplink Its basiclly like getting ISDN for your car... A few limo's have them too....

Revenue raising.......

Two things I've been done for in 8 years of driving are:

1 Driving literally 4 houses down the my street to my friends house in my VL commo with no seatbelt on - second gear - 25km/hr - highly dangerous practice.....

2 Doing 70 - in a 60 zone driving an auto vp commo down a big hill in salsbury - everyone knows how easy it is to speed accidently in an auto and yes they were at the bottom of the hill.

I get pissed off every time I think about the money I handed over.

one night i was being tailgated by cops so i took my turn and i cut the corner this was at about 3 in the mornin i used my indicator to turn the corner they booked me for an improper right turn. but wen they pulled me over i didnt indicate and they didt even say anythin about that freakin wierdos lol

I don't think everyone should be so quick to write off somebody's driving just because they are doing 175. This is very fast and in many cases excessively so and dangerous but there are certainly a number of roads around where its perfectly safe to do this. And just because someone is 19 and a p-plater in a turbo import doesn't mean they are a dangerous driver. IMO there are 4 things that effect the speed you can safely travel at:-

- Road conditions (eg potholes, bumps, sharp turns, residential areas, schools etc)

- Weather conditions

- Driver abilities (and attitude)

- Vehicle capabilities

I recently got back from Germany and was amazed by the roads and the authorities attitude over there. On the autobahns there is in many cases no speed limit and cars regularly do up to 250. And there accident rate is better than ours! The roads are kept in excellent condition and the police concentrate heavily on things such as drink driving.

The government has trained people to think that driving anywhere over the speed limit is terrible but speed is the main factor in only a very small percentage of accidents and many of these accidents could be prevented by having better trained drivers and attempting to change their attitude so they recognise when they may be getting into a dangerous situation.

It makes me angry to think that people are dying in accidents that could have been avoided if the people who write our laws had an ounce of common sense in regard to their direction on traffic safety.

If the goverment here was serious about saving lives instead of making money they would completely revamp driver training and equip people with the knowledge to handle their cars in normal and difficult situations.

Hope no-one minds too much me giving my 2 cents...

Hi Moggy,

As a traveller throughout Europe and also England I have seen just what you have - it's disgusting how our police seem to be just revenue raisers now.

If you go on the highway now most people just put the cruise control on 100km/hr and that's it - problem is that person's speedo might be out 10km/hr so they piss everyone off.

Everyone's so scared about speeding that they won't speed up enough to overtake which is dangerous, annoys everyone - makes people impatient which is dangerous.

Has anyone here ever seen a radar on a overtaking lane? Of course!

Go on the Bruce Highway now and it will be jam packed because of this - no-one can speed up a bit to get a safe distance from the person behind.

It's resulted in a hellava lot of drivers with no common road sence - INCLUDING POLICEMEN.

Thats my bit - just before I went away I saw a fat policeman sit in our deserted street all day booking everyone for the smallest things ie. a bloke on a moterbike got booked for not indicating into his drive way (no traffic??) and the list goes on.

He was the bloke who booked me for not wearing a seatbelt - driving out of my driveway and 50 metres down the road to my mates house.

What disgusted me the most was he just sat there for hours waiting for someone to do something wrong.

My 2 cents worth.....

And a little bit of blurb re the pt to pt cams...

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speed...mera_trial.html

The more I think about this the more I think the cop was trying to get you to admit to speeding without any evidence on his behalf...

Yep I think you have it right there. Definitley sounds like another tactic of attempting to get you to incriminate yoursef. The real point to point cameras are the ones in NSW, which send you photos in the mail like normal speed cameras do.

Its :bs!: really,

Police should concerntrate on stopping drink driving, murder's, brake & enter's and other stuff like that.

Not:

Excessive Noise/Smoke made from a car - $240 fine

Failing to use indercator's

10k's over the limmit

Having a BOV

Having you'r car too low

and all the other :bs!: they can get you for to make money for their end of year christmas party!

Speed doesn't kill, people kill people & inexpierence drivers kill people as others have said driver training should be applied to make the roads safe.

I hear some were in NSW their making the speed limmit upto 140kph on the freeway ? - testing it out as america is doing the same. This will work in a way but not,

Not Work: Because inexpierenced drivers get irratated at high speeds and are under pressure if people are up their A$$ because their going too slow. So making the speed faster will make it worse for some drivers but better for others. - comes down to driving expierence.

Its just getting worse and worse the cops carn't think of anything better to do except make rediculous fine's that prove what % better in deaths state wide.

175km/h even though that is a rediculous speed to be doing on public roads, you didn't kill anyone! You slow'd down straight away and happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time - tuff luck cop it sweet! :D

my 2 bobs worth

Jun

Yeah didn't think they had the point-to-point cameras up here, just the safe-t-cam things over the border for truck drivers.

I think the cop was trying to get you to admit to speeding without any evidence

That's why whenever they pull you over they ask "why were you speeding?" in the hope you'll give a lame excuse, which in turn admits guilt...."I wasn't" is a lot simpler to say :)

Its :bs!: really,

Disagree with those two.

the first one is a time and place thing, in a residential neighbourhood, you should get the fine ..... in the middle of nowhere with no other traffic you shouldn't get the fine.

THe 2nd one definitely should get a fine, it is dangerous to change lanes without indicating, it is extremely annoying and can be dangerous when people don't indicate on roundabouts. Indicating allows other drivers to know your intentions so they can adjust accordingly. Plus if you don't indicate it is just damn rude and inconsiderate as well.

i'm not with #1.. you live in the city.. you live with noise.. live in the country if you don't want noise. I live right on the main road, and whilst I always hear the occasional blast of a buzz box at 3am in the morning , I could't care less. These bitches that live in the main centres and then whinge that it's too loud - no sympathy. If people live central to be "close to everything" well that is part of being "close to everything".. that includes the noise of the big city.

There are more important things to be worrying about!

B) most people in QLD don't know how to indicate.. may as well give up the law :)

B) most people in QLD don't know how to indicate.. may as well give up the law :)

This is why QLD drivers are unsafe at 110km/hr, and the Germans can drive at 200km/hr+ without a problem. They indicate, they don't tailgate, they drive in the correct lane, etc.... And the cops over there inforce it because they're not so obcessed with speeding. You see people tailgating cop cars here on the M1 and they couldn't care less. And whilst I agree that failing to indicate is a serious problem, what the above posts are getting at is that the QLD police seem to only use it as a lame excuse to pull people over. They need to lay off the speeding crap and start working on basic driving skills and road manners.

    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
