Well today is the day I enter the well trodden path of registering an import.

I have my inspection at 1:30 today. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I'm starting the day with a wash of the car and vacumn. I'm hoping the nicer the car looks, the less chance of failing there is (fools gold I know). I shall report after the actual inspection with tales that will chill your blood, turn your wine to water and make you want to buy an aus delivered car! :bs!:

Mark - The not so chosen one.

I've heard it's better to have heaps wrong than a few things, because if there's heaps wrong, and they're easy fixes, they probably overlook the bigger problems which are less obvious and harder to fix.

Take it to Jacko's - they're just across the road from the Dickson Pits and do NRMA inspections.

I took my car there and passed easy. Then just walk across the road to the registry and you're done!

mivec u must be thinking of road worthy certificates (RWC) - for transferring registrations and stuff

Mark has to go thru the pits...a bit different, and harder.

gl mark, sell me your cooler!

Ummm, I think Mivec is actually right - when I got my R33 registered in the ACT the motor registry people told me that I could get a mechanical inspection done at any authorised inspection station, but only Dickson could do the "identity check" which is required when transferring a privately owned vehicle from another state. I think Dickson used to do all import mech inspections, but that changed some time ago.

I decided to kill two birds with one stone and get both done the same day at Dickson, but in hindsight if I hadn't been doing the id check would have definitely gone elsewhere for the normal inspection.

The car is a 15 year old import, it has to go over dickson.

And talked to Mark not long ago, it was failed as it needs engineering certificate to proove all the complaince items have been installed (as they arnt complianced like normal imports). Also needs steering rack boot or some crap.

Thank you nik :Bang:

Anyway, yes I failed. The three things were:

Engineers Certificate

Split Steering Arm Boot

Oil Leak/s

Shell, I did get the old guy, he's a champ. He said "Those twin cams can get pretty expensive *grumble grumble*" . Nicest RTA type fellow I'd ever met.

Anyway, I have now got the car booked in tomorrow for the fitting of side intrusion bars (ouch) and fixing the other problems. Engineer should be Thursday and then the reinspection....

Duy, you can buy my cooler when Amaru sells me his haha.

Stay tuned for more exiting installments of - "The Dickson Chronicles - The VR4 Affair" :headbang: :bananaman:

Well I took some photos but they are really hard to read, so I"ll just list exactly what he checks:

Owners Name

Address

Rego Number

Body Type

Monty/year of manufacture

Engine number

Engine capacity

Chassis/Vin number

Unladen Mass

Odometer reading

Engine, tansmission and driveline

exhaust

seatbelts

fromt/rear suspension and axles

braking system/steering

Wheels and Tyres

Side intrusion bars

Seating

Child restraints

Tyre placard

Drivers side mirror

Centre high point brake lamp

suspension hight

After all that he says "This vehicle has been modified using correct engineering practices and workmanship. The changes comply with the requirements of the ACT inspection manual for light vehicles. It's performance and handling have not been degraded by the changes and the vhicl is considered safe for use on public raodways"

Hell's yeah, ironically, the only picture that turned out was the bill. See attached :Bang:

    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
    • More so GReddy oil relocation kits, sandwich plates, etc. all use 10AN fittings. And same, I've only used 10AN and my car sees track work (circuit, doing laps, not 10 sec squirt business).
    • street use or race track, what hose size and why? what factors change with the hose size options ?   see most comon is an10. when you see most oem external coolers are closer to an12? does high volume oil pump like nitto need an12 or 10 be just fine
