I got falken ziex 265/35/18 on the rears I find then realy good in the dry but in the wet i think they are just crap i was told thay had a high temp rating and in the wet they struggle to get heat in to them thus no traction cheers.

if you want good rubber go and see if you can get some Re55s but they come at a cost and they a an import tyer. last i got them for was $480.. or you can do the top of the range Falken's and pay $525 for 275x18x35 for the rear...that's each by the way .. i have Falkens on the rear of mine great tyer but do not do to many burnout's ..

Falken 326 must be the most common skyline tyre out there....compliancers put them on because they are cheap and come in big sizes. They are terrible.

Falken ST115 are also appalling, which is even worse when you think they promote them as sporty.

Falken FK451 on the other hand are excellent tyres....go for em if you can get em, about $450 each.

For Re55s, they are brillian but will wear really quickly, 5-10000klm only. SAU NSW club members can get them in 17s for about 400 a corner from Gordon Leven

They are probably a little worn as well .

Any car with wide tyres at the front will tram to some extend , i got 265 's it trams too , it even trams with the stock 245's but not as much .

i just changed from some of the old Michelin pilot SX (not available now) and everyone i spoke to said Yoko C-drives were the Sh!t, and that once i used them id never use another tyre. Well thats the biggest load of crap!

unfortunately i did little research and just got the C-drives. Soon after learn that they replace the A539's, which while good, are never going to be michelin pilots!

These tyres ride super quiet, and are really comfortable, but on hard braking they lock up much easier than the pilots. Turn in and bite is far less positive, and on fast sweepers the car seems to subtly creep out and not hold the line.

Im not saying the C-drives are bad tyres, but when comparing them to a tyre such as a pilot then you see why you pay so much for the michelins.

while you can find performance tyres on a budget, the "best street tyres" will always be the most expensive each company has to offer! eg, im sure if you can foot the budget you wouldnt be disappointed with top level yoko AVS's, Pilot Sports, and Bridgestone Potenza's.

i saw someone mentioned yoko AVID S306's as good tyres! Sorry but have to disaggree! they are good if you like quiet tyres, but not if you like grippy tyres. I ran a set to about 50% then changed them for some potenza's. Bottom line, S306's are yoko's bargain "ECONOMY" passenger car tyre. Not what you want if you drive a car with some power. very easy to brake tracktion and lock up under braking.. these were on 19's, so probably exacerbated by the ultra low profile.

The latest Wheels mag tests a variety of tyres and the performance tyre which one was the Goodyear Revspec RS-02.

The Michelin Pilots came in a close second. From memory these tyres have either won or come second in every tyre test by Motor and Wheels over the last few years. Of course they cost plenty.

I wanted to try the Revspec on my Peugeot 205 GTI but they don't come in my size (195/50/15). I currently have Dunlop FM901s on my grey GTR and have to buy some new tyres to fit the R34 GTR rims I've got for the white GTR. Don't know the cost of the Goodyears yet. I'll make some calls and post the results.

Re the Kumho Ecsta's........ OK so most everyone thinks that they're sh!t but in what way ? And what version ? 711, 712 etc ?

I guess I'm asking are they OK for cruising and the ocasional belt down Putty Rd ?

well we used to run the khumo 711 on the daewoo race cars, and the 712s in one enduro as well. They were good tyres, I'm not sure of how the price compares (we were paying $250 for 205/16s) 711s about 2 sec better than the 712s around wakefield.

Is it just me or is that a lot of $'s for a little hoop ?!?!

So what would I be looking at for 255/40/17's ( I think the ones I'm looking at are Ecsta MX KU15 ) ?

At the moment I'm on Falken ZE512's that cost $250ea for 255/40/17 and $150ea for 235/45/17.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
