You don't need an HKS anything to make a GTR 2WD.. there is a simple fuse under the kick panel.

You will wear out the clutch packs however in an R33 GTR due to them having a pre-loaded clutch pack. You need to mod them if you want to run 2WD.. simple spring. But they will respond like an R32's 4WD system and you have to pull the whole transfer case apart to do it.

If you read initial-D comics... you will see a guy does that with no mods too.... foot work... just kidding

or you can swap engine with me~ jk again

Honestly, the safest way IMO is to use a torque distributor thingy like grid dancer... this way you have a choice depending on the driving condition...

Thats interesting....I've never noticed any mechanical differences in the 32/33 transfer cases when rebuilding them........however the 33 does seem to preload the transfer case hydraulically via the attessa system....

The pre-load is caused by the return spring. The R33 has a shorter spring and always has a little tension on the clutch pack.

You can simply install a R32 spring to fix this..

I think thats how it is... might be the other way around.. i forget.

The return spring shown in that diagram returns the clutch pack to zero clamp pressure in both 32 and 33.....the only preload/load on the clutches is provided by the attessa slave cyl controlled by the attessa computer....the HKS drag controller(for example) allows 2wd by dropping hydraulic preload to zero in both 32 and 33..

My understanding is the torque split is calculated by the value of some accelerometers. If you adjust the signals from these you can control torque split. Autospeed had a article on doing this with some Op-amps and pots. If you are electronically minded you could do it for <$20.

Yeah I know, but for the average person to go out, buy a HKS ETS Controller and pay to have it installed. :D

I don't think the HKS gear is available anymore. But the GRID TS Dancer costs about 50,000 yen. So should be under $1K landed (if not also installed).

Hmm I maybe wrong... but why even with the 2WD fuse out does the R33 keep preload on the clutches? The Hydraulic system still under pressure?

Actually, HKS Kansai has re-released the ETS. They had it on display at Tokyo Autosalon :(

werd to that my nigga. and it wasn't 50 000 yen either... f**k I should have bought one. Nick, next time you see me looking at one just slap me and put it in my hand, then shove me towards turtle man (with my other hand full of yen). he'll know what to do. turtle man always does.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
