Hi Guys,

I am rebuilding my RB25 at the moment, usual stuff such as forged pistons, gtr rods etc.. anyway my question is before the rebuild I had 270rwkw and mods were

044 fuel pump

650cc Sard injectors

BIG fmic

HKS 3037pro s

Haltech E11

3" exhaust, no cat

K&N Filter

SpiltFire Coils

Tomei Exh cam gear

and totally stock head and block running 14pis

Now with the enigine being rebuild I have the following done

full head Port 'n' Polish (with stiffer valve springs)

port matched inlet and exhaust manifold

new tubular manifold

HKS 256/264 in/exh cams

4" exhaust

and would like to run about 20psi

any ideas what I sort of power I could expect??

Cheers

Thats a 340rwkw+ package their, the only let down will be the turbo as it won't be able to flow much more air over 300rwkw's.

Let us know the results. :)

Thats what I wanted to know, I have read other reports of these turbos flowing 340kw+ but they where the external gated type. Would that make any difference? Can you change the exhaust housing to an external setup without too much hassel or cost (as im starting to run out of cash :headspin: )?

Thanks

You may be able to get it customised, changed exhaust housing - to suit higher horsepower and external gate, but thats going to cost a fair bit:

external gate - $600 +

Manifold will have to have pipe welded on to bolt the gate on and you will - $100 - 200?

On a positive thought 300rwkw's is a awsome power figure and with a smaller turbo and internal gate response is going to be better than a say 700hp GT3040

300rwkw is a good figure. Thats what you should expect from it.

And i'd argue the response of the GT30 heavily though.

Especially depending on which model/combo you get. As you can get a Garret GT3040 to behave the same as a 3037 if you know what your doing :)

I have 16psi on by over 4 grand... i never really look exactly.

And @ 16psi im getting 270rwkw for a fair portion of that RPM upto 7800

Thats not quite 3037 response due too my combo, but once 20psi comes along it should go quite well.

And thats the 600HP GT30, they dont make a 700HP unless your getting a 1.06 housing... and on an RB25 thats total madness kinda stuff

good too see your using a big exhaust too.

Im getting a 3.5 done shortly.

The car had good responce before, had full boost before 4000rpm, and thats one thing I did like about that turbo setup. I would like to get around the 500hp at the engine, so whats that... about 385kw.... so around 330rwkw??? Do you think my current turbo could stretch that far?

I saw a dyno chart of a similar setup but using a 2835PRO S, that got 270rwkw i thinks, and the a/f ratio looked pretty fat so it could of got more I would think. So surely I would get more that 30 extra kw from my bigger 3037??

Might have to just wait and see

Thanks for your input guys :thankyou:

Nis,

Were running a GT3040 700hp version on one of our R33's its been customised maby thats why is 700hp rated? It comes on full boost by 4500rpm thats when the external gate opens.

ah, you didnt mention that :)

you'd have to custom to get it too 700 nicely.

GT35 ground your in though.

and 330rwkw... you'll be getting near the limits for sure

muaythailuke, are you getting this done in tas and if so who is doing it for you and how much if you don't mind?

All machining work (head pnp, block boring, balancing etc) I had done on the mainland. The head was done by JHH Engineering in Queensland, bottom end was done by Crankshaft Rebuilders in Melbourne.

I do as much as I can myself to keep the cost down like pullying the motor out of the car, stripping it down etc.

As for cost, all up I have no idea and I done think I want to know :headspin: . Just for the machining work with the head and bottom end probably....... around $2500 give or take a bit.

I dont know what type of spings they are but im pretty sure they no brand like tomei or anything, just uprated ones, JHH were I got the head done organised them about $240 I think

    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
    • Yes, well. Mine are less than half that. ARBs are not set to "dumb" either.
    • I would hope. But, we all know even the best companies have an issue sporadically.
