Yeah they dont, my point is that u cant really compare. Naturally aspirated V8s being larger engines will never achieve the efficiency of a turbocharged nissan engine. But they were made for different applications. They make a whole lot more torque at much lower rpms than any rb series engine.

Rather why not just respect someone esles decision to go for something different other than a skyline? Its variety that makes our world interesting.

And when we're talking abt "the neccessary mods" required to beat these v8 barges, dont forget that if they started spending money on their cars/engines...they will go alot quicker too.

My point is simply that my Nissan engine (with aftermarket ECU, admitedly) can make just as much power in 2.5 litres with forced induction as GM makes in an engine more than twice the capacity, and with additional cylinders.

If you need to compare apples with apples, then CAMS applies a "fudge factor" to turbo engines of 1.7. So, I have the equivalent of a 4.25 litre N/A engine (RB25DET * 1.7) that makes nearly as much power as a GM engine having 33% more capacity and 2 additional cylinders.

Also, if you want to compare apples with apples, then compare the CV6 supercharged 3.8 litre V6 in the Monaro - it is rated at, from memory, 170 kW. A Nissan RB20DET is rated 160 kW. So, both forced induction, yet GM need nearly twice the capacity to produce only slightly more power than a RB20DET.

Sure, it is a lot like comparing apples to oranges but they are still both fruit.

The reason we're having this talk is because of the following diatribe thats been known to come out of v8 owners mouths:

"my car is more powerful, its a v8"

"get a REAL car"

"my engine sounds better"

"Got rice?"

"This v8 makes me feel comfortable about my tiny penis"

Well maybe all except the last line.. but once they start rattling off crap about cubes thats all i'm hearing.

Why is it that v8 owners feel they have to justify their purchasing decision by paying out on those of us who have decided we prefer something a bit more sophisticated? I find its usually backward yokel bogans who are the ones provoking us nissan boys.

Thats all it really comes down to, let them have their v8s. Hell if I ever have to tow a boat or a jet ski I might own a v8. But lets face it, the Skyline will always be the better car when it comes to accelerating, braking and going around corners.

Just tell the guy in the Monaro that he should really be comparing his car to the likes of a 34 GTR, based on the cost of the cars.

A 34 GTR is a much fairer comparison price wise, and I probably dont need to tell you that the 34 GTR would be saying to Monaro "Game Over :)"

call of the day. pull up beside a commonhore in a r34gtr and see what they say after the smoke has settled!!!!

you might wanna remind him that nissan has an equivalent model to his car... its called a Nissan Infinti Q45 boat/barge/battletank... weighs roughly the same, and has a 4.5L V8 engine... should give him something to think about when it comes to compareing oranges to apples.

my mate has a manaro and i have raced him a hundred times in my old gtst. i had fiter and cat back exhaust and could beat him by a car everytime all the way to 180 and he knew how to drive. now i have a gtr and no hsv has come near me.

commodores are family cars thats all they`ll ever be

Speaking from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE here.

Mates new 2005 Monaro, stock.

My S1 R33 Gts-t. 3inch catback.

Rolling start from 70km/h

--------------------------------

He nailed it first with me gunning it about 1/2 a second later. I was in second gear.

He slowly pulled away throughout the gears. From 70-140 he probably had about 3 car lengths on me by the end of it.

Put it this way, I was damn impressed by how well the Skyline managed to keep up considering all I had was a catback exhaust. This was giving me 8psi of boost (I was above 4500rpm the whole time, thus in high boost mode). I would have basically been in peak power/torque the whole time.

I'd guess that any Gts-t with full exhaust, fmic and boost (10-12psi) should be able to keep up with a new Monaro.

Once I get my R33 back (460hp turbo, fmic, wolf3dv4, fuel pump, pod with cai, 3inch from turbo etc...) I will annihilate the Monaro without a doubt. Skylines eat Monaros for breakfast. Just dump a little money into it and you'll nail them for sure.

Why? An R32 GTR is faster

My point is simply that my Nissan engine (with aftermarket ECU, admitedly) can make just as much power in 2.5 litres with forced induction as GM makes in an engine more than twice the capacity, and with additional cylinders.

Again i shall reiterate i am not taking sides here, i've owned 2 nissans so far in fact.

All im saying is that you cant compare, the moment you factor modications in, it changes the ball game entirely. Stock to stock, A monaro will prob (im not sure actually) be faster than a stock R33 gtst. Full stop. Factoring modications in is an entirely subjective matter which can also apply to a monaro owner who may also boast that his supercharged hsv will see off any gtr or whatsoever.

Yes numerically and technically they are more inefficient, but fact is, stock out of the box, they make more power and in the bodyshell they are in, they end up quicker. U might want to say the Q45 4.5 V8 is a monster, but fact is that that engine is not in any sort of skyline. Same way how a v8 fan might argue that a lingenfelter 7 litre supercharged v8 is the king of the road.

Actually, chances are that with a lot of the skylines getting on a bit the suspension isn't so great so not only will a nice new Aussie V8 outgun them in a straight line, but in the corners too. Sure the argument is there that with money each can be made to go faster, but stock, the V8's are a pretty good package now, regardless what company they come from.

As for which is faster, I'd suggest it depends on the driver and their commitment, and the only place to find out is on the racetrack...refer to "The Pyramid of Speed" in my sig.

Final word from me, if everyone liked the same thing, there wouldn't be enough to go around, that's why I have a couple of 6 cyl turbos, a V8 and a four in the garage.

My mate has an S14A with minimal mods, 185KW at the wheels with no boost controller.

We were at some lights the other day and a monaro was in front of him, the monaro had an exhaust system from what we can tell, they both took off and I just followed, not racing with them and the monaro couldn't get away from him.

I would thnk they would have been even or my mate slightly ahead from this

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
