HKS GT-SS or HKS GT2530 are the two main options at this price range. it will be tight to do it within your $5K budget but not impossible.

either of the two are proven performers @ 300awkw.

Your going to struggle to make that power with that amount spent.if you want 300awkw you will need.

power FC

at least 550cc injectors

some adjustable cam gears

GT-RS turbos

and a big fuel pump.

and then when you want more get a set of 270 tomei cams and some valve springs and more boost.

sorry i should have said that yes both turbo's GT-SS and 2530's can both crack big power but the GT-RS turbos will get you to that power quicker.

we've seen 367awkw with our GT-SS turbo and i know of someone who makes over 400awkw with 2530's.

GT-RS turbo's kick in like a big single, sounds mad on the dyno.

You should check out the trust bolt on turbos, they would fit your price range better as they are only oil cooled like the standard turbos. I think a pair of the T518Z can flow 700hp. As they dont need water lines made up they are cheaper to fit.

Trust say all sorts of fancy things about the comp housings on them, about being specifically designed for the gtr for good responce and so on.

Another bonus for your budget is that you are forced to run blended(cheaper) dump pipes allowing you to perhaps spend more on some nice front pipes i dont know.

The dude from willall racing rates them or something, im really singing his song.

zzz time

Standard GTR turbines ARE water cooled.

5K will get your turbo kit including fitting, but not much else. Budget another couple of grand for and ECU and injectors at least.

In my opinion, if you are going to get 2530s, you might as well go for GTRSs...as they are much more modern, make power easier and aren't much laggier at all. I don't think 2530s are available anymore anyway.

Otherwise, if you really want low down power, get GTSSs.

Apparently, another good option are Tomei Turbines, but no one knows much about them our here.

N1s are another good option, but you have to be careful, as there are quite a few different types.

2530's are still available but being replaced by the 2530KAI.

GT-SS will make 300rwkw no problem, no need to go for GT-RS which are not popular for a street car anyway. GT-SS will give you an excellent and responsive package for a reasonable price.

looking for advice on replacement turbo's on RB26DETT. I have 5K budgeted including labour, will this get me a decent upgrade? Im aiming for 300 rwkw and nice fat torque down low. Cheers all :)

the two best i have seen going aroud

R34 N1 Ball bearing

HKS 2530

both about the same size in hp

and if i was to try and spell the differences, in my opinion the R34 N1 work better at the lower boost (comes on a little quicker)1.3 to 1.5bar BUT the 2530 has more potental for high boost 1.7bar onwards

summary for every day driving is the better option and to go out and out high boost 2530, thats only in my opinion and i am happily run 530rwhp out of my 320hp garrets at 20psi

pete

so who can spell out which R34 N1 turbos are the "gun" 320hp variety.... Im after the serial number so I can plot my way through this maze of 34 N1 turbos (last count there are 4 types!)

williamsf1 I'm taking my turbos off very soon to fit new stainless manifolds will send you the model number then :)

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
