Hi Everyone,

Got pulled over by cops today .. I wasn't speeding.

Apparently my car is under 100mm (which is the required legal height) but only when I am in the car .. yah Im 90kg but still.

Also he mentioned that my POD Filters dont meet ADR Compliance Rules or something like that.

So just wondering what I need to do as I have stock VSPEC Suspension. Can I raise it a few mm? Is that a small or big job?

Also with the Pod Filters, Do I need a Box covering it? Will that make it legal?

Any info will be great thanks.

PS: He let me off with a warning but I like to comply with the rules where I can.

Get it engineered - as far as I know the 100mm is not measured with anyone in the car.

As far as I'm aware technically any mod you do on your car needs engineering, including the air filter. A box won't make it legal-er it will just hide it.

I have my non-oiled pod engineered with no box - so the "so long as it's in a box it's legal" is an old wives tale, atleast in NSW.

Good luck.

under 100mm with stock vspec suspension? I was under the impression that an R33 GTR Vspec had 135mm ground clearance, and a non vspec had 145mm ground clearance.

have you measured it yourself? I can't imagine your car would have droped 30-40mm over the years?

I live in NSW, but bcoz u live in Vic, maybe u can check this out: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrne/vrnav....A256ED10015E72B ,and u can also do more search about "Vehicle Standards Information"s there on the vicroads website. As far as I know for the pod filters, lot of people've already got defected from pod filters.., and like someonestolecc, I don't think covering the box will make it legal. So after all, engineer and engineer certification seems to be the best way.. Gud luck with your job.. :D

so how much would it cost to get a pod filter engineered ? can the dealer u brought the car off engineer it for u ? (assuming they're a raw compliance workshop)

You probably find that he has a bigger exhaust and it hangs down .

The 100 mm minimum hight is when fully loaded !!!

Pod filters do not need to be boxed.

Vic EPA laws state that you are only permitted one intake modification. (explained below)

If you have an aftermarket intercooler, you must run the standard air box to comply with EPA laws.

Thanks for the info Sky031.

So from what you stated mine should be okay as my intercooler is stock?

R31Nismoid: Yah it drops 2mm when I am in the car. It is stock VSpec Suspension.

It can be argued but I rather know that I have everything correct and complying with whatever standards. But the police officer was being a bit picky as I am sure there are far worst cars than mine :)

if you have the compliance cert, and the engineers, they you wont have a problem.

i was in court over a similar thing. Car was designed a certain way and complied, then an officer deemed it not too be legal, when in fact it was due to the vehicle's design :)

I thought it was 100mm unladen? If not, what is deemed as fully laden, 4 passengers plus luggage? I am sure when mine was attempting compliance it was 100mm unladen though the compliance guy told me and he was to the letter.

Brandon: My air pods are not boxed and not a problem as they are the single intake mod as mentioned by Karina.

From my numerous encounters with Prahran Police - they aren't always aware a GTR has a FMIC as standard equipment, and so pick it up as 2x mods - as a GTSt would be, hence the confusion.

Filter doesn't need to be boxed.

However, in the interest of keeping heat away from the intake, it makes sense to at least have some sort of division between the pod and the rest of the motor.

(No law that says pod filters need to be boxed)

James I will keep that in mind thanks.

How does one get a Engineers Cert?

And Does anyone have the link handy where I can print out these rules .. going to study these rules further.

Cheers

    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
