Speedo - what's after 180Kmh

Recommended Posts

Will cause no damage to speedo as there is no direct connection between a cable drive and the needle.

The cable usually spins a magnetic drum that attracts and drags a metal "plate" attached to the needle. If the disc spins quick enough to push the needle to an endstop there is only magnetic force on it so no damage.

i didnt say anyone condones what i say, but everyone on this form has clocked their car on the freeway/motorway and who ever says they havent is just lying, and for your info i am sticking to the rules by posting facts

There's no reason to think he is silly.

He said private road, have the courtesy to assume he meant a private road.

If you think otherwise you're welcome to think so but it doesn't help this club or modified car owners in general for you to post it up like you have.

My mates got a Nissan RPS13 180sx he clock his speedo like twice a week.. all it does is the engin shuts down and when it gets to 160.. it starts up again.. thats all.. but if he has a after market ECU or a chip.. it would be a different story... i dun think the cable will snap tho..

wreckedhead for someone who has had so many user IDs banned I thought you might be familiar with the rules:

http://wa.skylinesaustralia.com/forumrules.html

The 2nd last one seems relevent

im not gonna get into an argument about this, casue it ALWAYS_ME ending up getting banned, but for your information illegal activites include illegaly modifing cars which may harm the earth atmostphere, which includes blow off vales aftermarket ecu computers which create more pollution to the enviroment, so taking into consideration SAU website forum talks and discusses these issues ( including the sale of these items) i belive that the illegal activity i am talking about doesnt compare to other peoples illegal activites on this informative website. dont forget i am a keyboard warrior and my stories could all be bogus.

So your saying that doing over 200km/h is less illegal than a blow off valve or exhaust? I'm sure the sound of an exhaust or blow off valve is less harmful to a persons well being than hitting a pedestrian at over 100km/h.

speedo needle won't snap mate, it'll just go as far as it can physically go then stop ie. the bottom of the instrument panel

and LOL, the engine won't blow......unless your in a barina or something....lol

there is no "more or less illegal", they are all still illegal, which ever way you look at it.

I have had opened up my 32 on private property and exceeded 180km on a few occasions,

and my speedo still woks just dandy. I would also suggest that is BS!

BTW what car are you referring to or just in general?

Actually back in the old days when I used to own a Toyota Paseo (I know... a good sport car pretender) I did around 210 in 'private road' and the max speed on the speedo is 180... after that the speedo went beserk, like keep vibrating and jumping up and down. Brought it back to Toyota dealer and was told that the cable might have been damaged.

Anyway, 210 in shitty little 1.5L engine is not bad huh? It has full 5Zigen super border exhaust and aftermarket air filter though

always me, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed or something?

ppl who say they did 190 on a private rd might have actually done so. Neither you or i can prove otherwise, so why call them a liar and go completely off topic when all you can do is assume?

nmcmahon83: i also get danger to manifold, but i tell my laptop to shut up and close it...

i always get up on the wrong side of the bed every morning, but anyways it is a little of topic, but seriously do you know anywhere that there is a private rd that you could get to 200kph, ive never heard of anywhere other then the drag strip, do lets just move along and agree that there will be no damage to speedos if you go over 180 or what ever max speed is.

Without being fully aware of how a speedo actually works... perhaps it is different between front and rear wheel drive cars (different position of gearbox, etc)... hence why the paseo may have been damamged while a skyline etc will not be?? or maybe it's just cos paseo's are not meant to go 210kmh lol

feel free to shoot me down... just a thought.

Most modern cars don't have cable they are electronic , so nothing that can break.

Cable or no cable, does'nt matter, there's no direct connection. The Toyota Dealer was talking B/S. Wish all you sticklers for the law would turn down the brightness on your halos. The glare is hurting my eyes. At least flick on to low beam. Please?

Should have made lots of sense to someone who would sign "I'd rather die on my feet th.................................." I've got to use 2nd to get up to 160 in my driveway, it must be shorter than yours [length does'nt matter anyhow.]
