Hey,

Just curious, for drift and track days, running a stock R32 GTST (cept exhuast) will I need a FMIC? Or is the stock one good enough?

Even if I get a FMIC right now, it will stay stock boost until I can afford a boost controller.

I will put one on eventually, I am just prioritising ATM. I can have the FMIC now, and stereo in 3 months, or the opposite. If it's safe to run the stock cooler, I will take the stereo now, if it's not, then I will take the FMIC.

I don't mind either way, so long as the car is safe.

Cheers

Chris

Running stock boost you should be fine probably not a good idea on a 40 deg day though.

try and avoid driving it hard when it's hot weather. i've had no problems drifting with stock cooler/turbo (r32gtst), but a bit of extra power would definantly help.

as long as you are keeping the boost stock, then you should be ok, if you want to start increasing boost get a cooler, and also consider aftermarket turbo's (ceramic turbine wheel on skyline is nice for early spool-up, but they tend to crap themselves above 1bar boost)

if your running stock everything then keep the stock cooler. if you do fit the fmic then make sure you add some other stuff at the same time to keep the throttle the same otherwise youll have exccess lag in the system as you have to pressurize the core and piping each time you open the throttle. try and do and exhaust at the same time, that way you wont get any lag or a worse throttle response than what you had

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Just to clarify, except the exhuast, and different springs, the car is standard.

It will be staying standard for now. If I get a FMIC it would stay stock boost for now anyways. (No money for boost controller)

I will be getting both stereo and FMIC, just I can only have one now and one later. I am not worried about the stereo losing value etc. What I am concerned with is if the car can handle drift/track days without the FMIC.

My point is, it would be silly to go the next 3 months without the stereo if I don't need the FMIC. Of course, it would also be silly to get the stereo if the FMIC is needed.

I don't mind which I get first, so long as the car is safe. If the car is safe, I'll probably choose the stereo now.

Seems most seem to think it will survive. Some saying they do it now.

I will only be learning to drift at the moment, so I won't be thrashing the car too much just yet anyways.

Cheers

Chris

you don't need a fmic if your car is fairly stock.. I've been to a track day on a hot day without probs, but I wouldn't be running higher boost without some risk.

p.s. I did stereo before FMIC and most other things myself - considering you drive the car everyday, its something that rewards every day

Predator - YAY! Someone that understands the goods in a stereo  I have been a car audio buff for a while now, and I decided I wasn't going to bother with the skyline. I managed to keep it down for 2 months...well almost 2 months. haha

I am quite happy with the power, and I can drift 90 degree turns with the power I have... I havn't had the chance to do more than 90 degree turns as yet, but I may not need a power increase. Or I might suck at drift and not bother with it! And the stock car does everything else I need it to fine (motorkhanas)

Cheers Guys,

considering we're approaching winter, 40 degree days aren't really in the near future. I'd get the stereo gear done. Save for a few months and FMIC in time for summer. The stock cooler will suffice.

Yeah get the stereo all sorted for now, like CeralKiller said we are coming into winter and the ambient temp drop is fairly large so those 40+ days aren't going to be around as often.

If you are looking for a cheap boost controller have a look at these:

I know there not an EBC but a manual vlave, but well worthe the $30 i think.

Have a look at the thread:http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...75&page=1&pp=25

    • Drilled the rubber out on a slow speed and it didn't catch much at all. Probably only half a dozen holes was enough to shred the rubber and it dropped off easily leaving the inner sleeve behind. Will tackle that later
    • I havent bought a manual cover for the dash yet and no cluster change, won't bother me too much, I just need to get that auto box gone, manual in! I miss my manual. 🤪. We started last weekend and managed to get the box out. Planning to start putting it in this weekend and then order a single piece tail. We were super careful to take time and not damage anything. It's my first time working under the car.  With my S15 mainly worked in the bay. This time, it was a headache because of three or four bolts only. They simply didnt want to leave thei homr and the one securing the tailshaft, another above the GB, and the one securing the lipstick was a shit. Mates mate, Davo caught fire 🤣, nearly opened his chest up with a grinder 🤦🏽‍♂️ and both mates nearly had a plate from the box land and slit their head open. Fun times. We all survived. Not the easiest working with limited access on jackstands. As I'm sure we can agree these are the memories which make us love our car. For all three of us, was an awesome weekend and Sunday 3.30am before tools down was a fantastic effort. I need to upload pics, but looks like it needs to be via Url now. We used to be able to just upload pics back in the day. It's been that long! 🤪 Im currently spraying rustoleum under body, not because it's rusted. It's super clean, but just so it's protected for the next 10 years. There was a few surface rust spots. Which pretty much wiped off with a 3M scourer.  Really impressed with how well the previous owner maintained it. Bank account went down so quick! Service, then GB - managed to get a spanking new 34 genuine box from Nissan. All the rest of the conversion parts from Kudos.  Went with a Nismo short shifter. New pedals and Exedy Clutch and FW. Ordered the Prp Rear Main Retainer kit which should arrive Friday and my first engine mod part just like I did with my S15 will be the Tomei Expreme Turbo Outlet. Already on order. It'll likely sleep next to me on a pillow during the coming months. 🥰 Last build was on my JET200GT profile and on SAU and Hardtuned I had documented the build. Planning to try to do that again. Brands feel scarce now. Wish we still had ARC and Apexi parts readily available. Exhaust - need some advice on this. I had an Apexi exhaust on the S15 and loved the tone. My mate had a HKS HP Silent on his 33 and suggested I go with that to avoid drone. I can't remember hearing an RB25DET running that so will likely need to wait for a meet or something to hear it.  Not after big power, just enjoy building it, and drivability with minimal negative attention.
    • Have a chat with Ben at Moore Performance or Jesse at JS Performance.
    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 😬 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 😅
    • Finally got shipping number for the intake and throttle body, shipped by UPS, so "should" be in my hands sometime next week, fingers fracking crossed
