$800 = not so bad if it's alloy or stainless steel

$1400 = rediculous

;)

Look at it this way, about 8-10 bends and some straight, so depending on materials around $150-400 on materials (63.5OD tube). Then a good 6-10 hours work to remove and repalce bar, trim bar, cut and trial fit tube, tack and weld, new flange for BOV etc , clean up piping be it paint or a quick polish...then silicon joiners and hose clamps plus mounting the intercooler in the first instance. Then perhaps soem gauze over the bar opening to protect IC from stones.

Did i say 6-10 hours, want to have done it before otherwose it will be longer...so lets say 8 hours...i cant see a shop charging any less then $55 / hr for labour, so it soon adds up. Unless you are going to do all the fluffing aorund yourself, then just give the cut and fitted pipe to someone to weld, then to piant/fit etc yourself then time is money:(

I did all my own piping on my car, 3" alloy. I bought about 3 90º bends as it was sold cheaper like this. Then cut it up to fit.

Cost me around $300 all up including samco and stainless clamps.

Paid a good welder to join it all up etc.

A lot of work involved with the cutting and fitting etc as I couldn't get all my bends made one piece being quite tight. Not the most fun job in the world, but worth it in the end :)

When you guys make up your own intercooler pipes - how do you lip the ends to ensure that the joiners don't blow off the pipe?

It's a simple 3 roller jig, not expensive so plenty of people have them, Performance Metalcraft, GCG, Micks Metalcraft etc. I just paid them a $few to lip the pipes for me.:)

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
