There is apparently a CA18 R33 as well...

Nope, only the R32 was cursed with the CA18, was called the GXi.

Though the R33 GTS has the RB20E (ie SOHC head) which is almost as bad (no offence to GTS owners out there!).....

You are correct about the GTS4 - Stevie's post is wrong, there is no such thing as a (factory) 2.5L Turbo GTS4, unless it has been converted using a RS4 Stagea motor.

Sweet, it's a GTS25 then. If you can have a look at the muffler, assuming it still has the standard one look for a mechanism attached to 1 of the 2 outlets from the rear of the muffler. If there is a valve looking mechanism there, then you have a type S with 147kw. If not then you've got 140kw.

Other place to look is behind the boot lining on the left hand side below where the jack is located, you'll see an actuator with a cable that runs to the valve in the muffler. If the actuator isn't there then it isn't a type S.

Minor details though, if you buy it have fun!

Mqy mechanic just found that my clutch is out.

my pressure plates are fked.

the japanese that owned it last stuffed it the clutch.

i got it as as japanese import ,so, they must have been .

the japanese cant have there car for more than 100.000 kms.

then it's taken to the wrecker or imported here.

mine was imported to australia and i brought it.

People in my class think it waS A mistake for buying it for it has a stuffed clutch.

now my mechanic thinks its gonna cost me $700 to buy a new one.

come to think of it my clutch aint completely fked like it still runs but the gears are slipping.

please reply give me your views

classmates are beggining to make me regret buying it for 15,000. :chairshot

cheers

that's right go hide under your turbo!  :chairshot

seriously the car isn't as bad as the turbo driver's say and we get to bag all thsoe turbo driver's who can barely go half the distance off 1 fuel tank. i been hearing they get something like 250km/tank.

im getting somewhere in the vacinity of 450 to 500 kms to a tank if i drive casual.

$15000 k is pretty steep considering its an atmo FLYR33 but if its in good nick low k's etc who cares you'll probally drive it through the floor anyway just have fun with it man.

Congrats Hey!!!

ohh yeah your clutch ... buy a new one fix the problem before you get more!!! (gota love the japs most of them couldnt give a shit about their cars lol)

you dont need a heavy duty or twin plate carbon special triple plate mother of a sucker just the factory one ...

you can get one of the pretty cheap from justjap i think ----> www.justjap.com

just out of curiousity did you get a waranty when you bought it?

p.s. dude all skylines bar a few local sold r32 gtr's are imports

hey, i also got a N/A 33 for my first car, if you have any send some pics, would be nice to see what kind of condition it is in. Mine is a black 93 gts25 and im happy with it but will probly doing a conversion soon. i got mine for $12 500 and it goes very well. get back to me with some pics or something, cheers eli

I have never heard of an R33 GTS4 Turbo, all the 33 GTS4's I've seen have been NA

The only other single turbo GTS4 I've seen is an R32 GTS4.

and before someone makes a smart arsed comment, GTR's with single turbo conversions dont count :P:)

I used to have R33 GTS-4, and plan was to turbo by putting RB26DETT but then money ran out :)

$15000 isnt expensive considering u r the first owner in Oz... u do get what u pay for...

i paid a little more than that with few low km's (just passed 80000 this morning)

genuine km - got paper work to go with it. its in good nick and never a problem.

clutches do tend to go and an R33 GTST stocko or equivalent is a sufficient upgrade.

Hey Ant, what's the go with this type S 140/147kws? how does that valve mechanism add the 7 kws? Obviously something to do with the exhaust but how does it work exactly?

    • Nah, they'll do it without a receipt, tell em roughly when it was, that it was cash, youll likely only get store credit, but that gets you some dollars towards the newer better shovel, or other item you need/want later.   Still take it back and have a crack at returning it.
    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
