wingnam
thats bad - only rust i have found on mine is from scratches - fixed up now and underneath the car (drivers side) looks like a beam but its hollow - small patch about the size of a smoke packet (25's) sanded it down and resprayed with some decent paint Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/79845-r32-rust-warning-problem-area/page/2/#findComment-2192231 Share on other sites

Beer Baron
if you can see it the chances are it's already very bad inside the rear quarters. get it checked asap. edspaged2
How did you get the rust pics into your reply without turning them into the little pop-up boxes? I never really thought about rust on my car. I better get searching! I have lifted the floor carpet to get to some wires and looked fine though but you can never be too sure! gts4diehard
a couple of other spots to check are: in the boot under either sides gutters that lead down to the tail-lights, if the cars had any minor or greater rear shunts then the sealant can leak letting water into the boot. Under the spare tyre I have seen rust in a r32 coupe, possibly because water got in from the leak mentioned above. It will rust around the fuel tank strap that bolts up under the spare tyre well. Most car panels and doors have drain holes in them, good idea to make sure they arent blocked up, this can happen when people spray anti-rust goo everywhere and block everything up. All the above can happen to any car, R32's seem to last pretty well for their age and the kinds of stresses that the bodies are subjected too. funkymonkey
Remix- that's a horrible car... surely they would have seen it when the car was inspected etc? with all the 15 yr old shitheaps running around i'm not surprised people are finding rust. when I was hunting for a GTS4 I found that almost 99% of them were in snow regions, and they all had nicely rusted underbodies. A lot had rust on the chassis and side sills etc... horrible. Ended up finding a GTS4 that was located in tokyo... still has a lil surface rust where water collects around the rear window, but nothing like the horrors I saw from Hokkaido etc. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/79845-r32-rust-warning-problem-area/page/2/#findComment-2387269 Share on other sites
BezerkR32
Agree, definately due to the salting of the road, my 32 has surface rust on all the seems underneath, some more extensive rust in the rear quarters, some in the sills under the skirt and a little in the corner of the front floor pans. I guess its also an age thing. they are not as young as they used to be. All is be repairable in my case but it looks as if some of us havent been as lucky..... I would not be surprised if Remix's R32 had been submerged in some natural flood disaster situation like they have at times in Japan. What better way to dump a car after drying it out than at the auctions where all our cars virtually come from. Otherwise maybe it came from prefectures where they put salt on the roads in the winters? r32line
If ever there was a forum that advocates why the 15 year rule needed to be stopped this is it, some of the cars that were brought in here would have been better stripped for parts. I remember when thinkin of importing myself which i decided against, i saw cars for sale with pictures of rust which was similar to the horror story above but only shown in one spot.. (obviously they werent goin to lift the carpets to take pics but it was prolly there too) where there was a hole the rust was so bad. The comments said minor rust will need repair, car otherwise straight, etc etc. lol Also when i went to check my car in some of the areas mentioned i noticed my car has plastic covers around the same point on all four wheel arches, has any1 else got these?? Dougz32
I just got a quote today to get my rear windscreen removed and put back in. They said $110 plus $25 for a new rubber surround. I have to unplug the rear demister and aerial, also take the rear wiper off. I have a few little rust spots coming up around my rear windscreen. Im fixing it this week. I'll have to have a look over my car now. This thread has got me scared haha.
