Tommyk
Searching for all posts under my name shows that the last post i made was back in march? How can this be rectified, because i want to see my old threads from not so long ago? Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80781-bug-in-forum-software-search-function/ Share on other sites

GTRgeoff
Yeh, I have problems as well. I've been trying to find info from technical threads last year, and it stops in this year. Makes it hard to grouch at users that won't search when it doesn't work. I've had to resort to scrolling back through my subscriptions and they come up eventually. Duncan
There is another problem with searches as well. No matter how many "New Posts" there are, only 10 pages are returned. It is definately missing many posts Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80781-bug-in-forum-software-search-function/#findComment-1477579 Share on other sites

re2
Ok, I believe I know what needs to happen. The admins needs to rebuild the search index via the update counter area in the admin control panel. Admin CP -> Import & Maintenance -> Update Counters -> Rebuild Search Index -> If you are reindexing, you may want to empty the indexes. I would recommend using fire fox to do this as it’s a big activity, and ie will most likely time out and log you out. This can be fix by disabling the AdminCP Timeout, go to: AdminCP/vB Options/Admin Control Panel Options/Timeout Admin Login and set it to No. Someone get the admins to check this thread so it can be done Thus should allow the forums to run much smoother well fix the search bug Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80781-bug-in-forum-software-search-function/#findComment-1483755 Share on other sites
geordie
I have noticed searches returning no matches when i type thngs in like for example i typed in jic in classys looking for coilovers and got nothing, typed in coilovers and the top the results page was "jic coilovers" Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80781-bug-in-forum-software-search-function/#findComment-1483833 Share on other sites
lwells
Search doesn't seem to work with terms that are smaller than four characters. That's pretty normal practice, except usually you would get an error message saying "search term no long enough" or similar. lwells
hmm there must be admins and admins on these forums, I don't have these options under admin I imagine you are just a moderator, not an admin? But whatever.... The forums definately need a reindex. re2
Yes it is pretty screwed I would recommend backing up the data base then shutting the forums down, when doing the re-index as it can take some time, and is process intensive, with large communities. re2
i'll do it sometime this week when the load is low. Any footy finals comin up? Early morning like 5am AEST... properly the best time as the west will be asleep, and minimal will be awake on the east, and those who will be will most likely be to busy getting ready for work or school.
