factory stats at the flywheel for the different models are below, it's hard to gauge power at the wheels, cause every dyno will read sligthly different

R32 RB25DE 132kw

R33 RB25DE non type-s 140kw

R33 RB25DE type-s 147kw

R43 RB25DE 147kw

i remember hi performance imports magazine dynoed a rb25de , they eventually got it up to around 120 kw@ rw , mainly by playing with the ignition timing ( advanced few degrees ) improving air inlet and some other tricks . must find that magazine and be a bit more specific .

by the way whats the difference between non type s and type s ?

i read that article too... it was on an series 1 silver sedan.

they advanced timing

fcd

removed standard airbox lid

added a cardboard snorkel

type s has been quoted to have an extra 7kw (and has an exhaust flap on the stock system)

What sort of power can be achieved with an RB25DE ? Has anyone worked one ?

Have been wanting to change mine to an N/A since I saw a HCR32 modified to fit in an RB25DE ( in the turbo body with brakes etc. ) Yes the car WAS a turbo but had an N/A installed. The RB25DE was very worked but I don't speak Jap so I didn't find out the power output.

I know you think I'm  but if you could have heard this car go you would cream yourself ( snorting, farting, barking and growling sounds that no turbo car could EVER make !!! )

:werd:

This car I saw in Osaka had open alloy trumpets and you could look down them and SEE the fuel injector spraying !!! It also had extractors into a 2 3/4" system with one muffler, and then dumped out the side. The compression of the engine was so high that the air coming out the exhaust nearly un-tied your shoe laces !!

I just wish I had done the swap when I blew up my RB20DET. But the only thing that stopped me was the knowledge that I was going to have +200 rwkw. I now have the power but just wish I had the old school noise :kewl:

So by that rational, it's possible to get good 150+rwkw with cams, injectors, head work etc. ( I suppose with REAL money spent, the number's could be higher ). But I guess it's more about the torque figure and where it all happens in the rev range.

I better start saving real hard

by that you mean it had their own individual tb with bell mouths added to it. they make the engine scream and rev really loud haha.

damn its been awhile and i should've kept track of this thread. i totally forgot about it :worship:

R32 RB25DE 132kw

i thought R32's only came in RB20 dude?

i rekon the rb25de would be a good engine to work with. work it off its nuts then slap on a turbo man it would be a monster.

Yes some R32s came out with a non-turbo RB25DE engine (although less powerful than the R33 version).

yeh, I have an R32 RB25DE.. any light mods I can do? I'm a student so strapped for cash, but it does have a new air filter, performance clutch and exhaust.. what else could be done?

$300 will get you a set of Coby extractors from NZ. Very good build quality!

He said it already has a performance exhaust on it... so any gain would be minimal (surley).

Perhaps getting some cams would help... provided you don't mind revs, that is.

Get a job when you finish uni and get a turbo (like I did). Till then, save your money, and enjoy your lightweight NA car

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
